Currently as far as I know, there are currently no way to sign up for this game. There is also no way to reactivate subscription either. The online numbers are in mostly single digits, if there is a possible way to get in to JG, then it might be worth trying, but probably not worth paying for until the online numbers reach almost 100. Popular FPS games have more online numbers then this. Overall, this game is in real bad shape because the only active developer working on this game has suddenly been layed off. So it is unclear if this game will ever get a dev to fix the bugs or not.
It is likley this one to finally go belly up. I could be wrong. Other than that, this game features a complex flight engine in a first person view only.

this game was not advertised at launch because the company went under and development was sidetracked for a while but it is a solid mmo with real FPS twich based combat in that it is not automated at all you fly you aim and you pull the trigger at the right time , so if you miss its your falt . give it a try just keep in mind that when you first start you must push F5 then type :chat to get to general chat where everyone is so you can ask questions and get a response .

This game proves that gameplay is the most important factor. I have recently come back to the game because 3 years ago when I played it I didn't realise how special it was until I played all the glossy titles out there. Plain and simple fun with a lot of adrenalin. Who knew landing your craft is a buzz all on its own.
God knows I lost more ships slamming into stations!

I just came back to Jumpgate, after not having played for...2 years?
Still the same skill based game, only controlled by the player himself. Yes, the graphics are outdated, but graphics are not what makes Jumpgate unique. I very much doubt that any other game would provide that much excitement and satisfaction. At least I did not find it anywhere else, and I tried a lot.
Have fun.

This is a game that requires actual skill, not luck or "experience points" to play. The learning curve is tough, but the satisfaction you derive from your accomplishments is genuine and I can honestly say, no other game has ever given me the very real adrenaline rush that I get battling aliens or dog-fighting actual ace players in Jumpgate. Tried quite a few other games, but I've kept coming back to this one for the last 6+ years. And while the space-station graphics need work, the in-flight graphics are just fine, any more might prove too distracting.

First off, bear in mind that Jumpgate is now a old game, it went retail in 2001, which means development started well before that date so things like graphics and some sound effects are showing their age, yes at times this can lead to not being in the mood to play, but the same can go for any MMO in-regards to their downsides (EVE and dull travels, WoW and it's kiddie playground playerbase, GW and it's simplicity).
As others have pointed out, Jumpgate did hit a very rocky stage in the wait for the free expansion "Episode 2: Attack of the conflux" with the live build being wildly overdue and hardly any news on development. Because at the time many players gave up hope , the community did seriously drop with name calling and general childish BS being common place.
Fortunatly, those days are gone and with the now merged servers those left have put past conflicts behind them and now only butt heads in a in-game squad/faction war capacity.
This game is definatly not for those who focus half on other things whilst playing! Jumpgate demands you full attention when playing or the next thing you know you've got a small taskforce of enemys up your engine port and your watching you pod fly back you home faction, If you want a game where you can watch a movie at the same time THIS IS NOT FOR YOU, try a more AFK game such a EVE that allows for you to leave your computer, go to work, have a family, grow old and then return when your on your deathbed to find you've just filled a indy with ore. Also because of the smaller community, players have learnt that the best solution to troublesome players (as in exploiter/griefers) isn't to file a complaint and whinge, but to amass a army and seek vengance... if your into purposely being annoying and getting peoples backs up, you'll not get far here.
Other then that, this game is fully open to any and all types of Roleplay with a events team that will do everything in their power to provide resources for anybodys ideas for subplots, Festive events or even just a "Heck let's all get in the slowest ship and haul the heaviest goods going and race" and normally include special medals for winners/participants to display to on their player based Stat site http://www.jossh.com (Something missing in nearly all MMOs in as much detail as JGs).
Want a quick summary of JG without reading the above? ok... Out-dated graphics, Rock community in the past but now recovered, dedicated events team which actually work closely with players, Roleplay heavy, Small but interactive playerbase, No annoying spamming net-chavs, No magic/elves/orcs/ Teenagers posing as skantly dressed females begging for free goods, not AFK friendly, No player based stats/Dice rolling.

My boyfriend played this game back in the day and told me about the "fag!" screaming community. Definitely not something I would have liked to be a part of. Nowadays though you don't hear all that bigotry only because there is no one else...so it seems. Sad though because I LOVE twitch games. But there is no on else to shoot so they can call you a "fag!" later...oh well. :p
