NetDevil has announced that Jumpgate, the aging MMORPG from the makers of Auto Assault, is about to undergo some server merging. This is most likely some good news for those that still enjoy this title.

“To help ease the transition from the European server to the American server, we’re offering a free month of play from July 1 to August 1 to all transferred accounts,” said Scott Brown, President of NetDevil. “The free month will give the transferred players time to adjust to their new environment, and is a way for us to thank them for their continued loyalty to Jumpgate.” “We are thrilled to be able to welcome the European players to the American server,” continued Brown. “We look upon this merger as a unique opportunity to expand the Jumpgate community with a more diverse player base.” The merge is planned for June 30. No changes in user data on the European server will be transferred after June 27. Transferred European players may access their accounts beginning June 30. NetDevil’s existing contract with Mightygames will officially end on June 30. About NetDevil NetDevil was founded in 1997 in Louisville, Colorado as an independently owned and operated game development company dedicated to the construction of massively multiplayer universes. Thanks to NetDevil for passing this along.

JG continues to evolve as the game is updated fairly regularly. Calling it an "aging MMORPG" is misleading and inaccurate. Jumpgate defies definition. It has elements of RPG, FPS and flight sim. It has a unique physics engine that, while note completely Newtonian, does make you feel like you're in space rather than flying an F-16.
The only thing showing some signs of age are the graphics, and some graphic elements have begun to be updated in the last couple of patches.
If you want to add commentary to a press release like this, you should really first take a look at the game rather than simply checking out the release date.
If anyone is really interested in knowing about Jumpgate, I recommend THIS review (no, I didn't write it -- there are actually more JG fanbois than just me).
My apologies if that came off as disparaging. That was not my intention. I meant literally, its an older game that has been flying under the radar for a while. It was not meant as a comment on their graphics or anything of that nature.
Whereas the end of JG EU came as a bit of a shock for us EU players (I've been playing on EU for well over 3 years), the re-unification of the community is most likely the best way to go. Especially since the community had not only been divided between EU and US, but EU also had an additional division between the English-speaking and the German-speaking community. I am looking forward to playing on the reunited server already.
Jumpgate has been a niche game ever since, and its still pretty much unique. The only competitor with a roughly similar flight style would be "Vendetta Online", most if not all other SciFi-Space-MMOGs are just "point and click".
JG has never been a big fish in the MMOG pond, but its rather small community appears to be extremely loyal and dedicated. On the long run, community spirit and long-time motivation counts more than hype and eye candy.
Aged the game might be, but with the developer's ambitious plans and the influx of EU players, it may well have another couple of years to go.
