There are only so and so many types of armours, so there isn't really much to choose from, unfortunately..

So characters of the same class will all look very much alike..

Yeah, your class armor only really differentiate based on level.

lmfao, its like that for ever game.  Maybe not at the start but over time everyone looks the same.

Look at WoW, every season 3 warrior looks like every other season 3 warrior, every person that raids looks the same.

Putting that as a negative to this game is dumb.   Even the P2P games do it so why should they waste their time to make them look different till late game?

not every game

Anarchy Online and Everquest 2 are good examples of games where there is not just 1 or 2 armor setups at end game, there are 10's - 100s of setups

The reason this is a problem, and yes I state this as a problem, is because in 'most' games there is a 'best' gear setup. Because everyone wants to wear the 'best' gear, everyone tends to look alike. The way to avoid this is to make multiple options for the 'best' gear. Either have multiple different looking sets that are identical state-wise, or make them so comperable that you then have to pick and choose based on your own preference.

I have never liked the fact that there is almost 'always' a best item that you could be using at any given time. Many times I would prefer to play a character the way I envision them, using a certain weapon or a certain style of armor, but doing so would put me at a severe disadvantage over the best items. Style will always take a backseat to numerical advantages.

eq2 and AO have covered the "BEST GEAR" problem pretty well with the huge amount of choices that gives several nice perks

Guild Wars has that. You can take any armor and mod it state-wise any way you want.
