    • Amazing! The turn base really gives you the feel of driving in an arena. The setup of the game works. Sure, turned based MMO may not sound like much but give it a try before you pass judgment because it really works!

    • just started playing this about a week ago as it is free to try, i ended up subscribing after about 4 days of play. the races are turn based (30 seconds a turn) which gives you plenty of time to smack talk and enjoy that barrel roll that your car is doing at 100mph!! customer service is responsive and the developers are online a lot. the community has answered any questions i might have. performance is great, its turn based, no lag!!! if you enjoy turn based games then try it out! hope to see ya in my rear view mirror!

    • Terrible concept. Turn based racing? Racing is supposed to be fluid gameplay...leave the turn based for the Laser Squad Nemesis and those other strategy MMOs. What a jip

    • Two words ..turn based. Those words do not belong in the same sentence as MMO.

    • Sorry Dark-Wind Dev's but you failed to make a good game with a bad community game play and amongst other things. IM not even going to bother flaming this game, becuase I have much more bigger games to burn down!

    • For sure, Darkwind is totally unique. Our players see that as a good thing. If you want to play yet another fantasy MMO clone with updated graphics, go ahead, that's your perogative. But if you want something unique and strategic, with a hugely detailed combat system, and where your decisions affect your gang's fortunes for weeks, try DW. Regarding turn-based racing: A number of turn-based racing games already exist (including some excellent board games: see http://www.davebudd.org.uk/text_files/mrbg-rev.html and http://www.boardgamecompany.co.uk/FormulaOne(VG20032).htm). Darkwind is the only one we know of that combines accurate physics with turn-based play. Essentially, the race becomes purely about the tactics of entering and exiting corners, overtaking, and generally breaking down the nuances of driving that become automated in a traditional driving game. After all, real world professional racing is much more to do with tactics than reactions - just watch an F1 or Nascar race on TV. By making the game turn based we're letting the players all race more professionally, letting them battle it out tactically rather just seeing who's first to make some dumb mistake, which is what happens in most computer racing games. Another major reason for making Darkwind turn-based is to allow highly detailed rules and strategy: these things are not possible in real-time games. Players need time to assign orders to their characters and vehicles. It's a totally different experience to standard real-time car games. Think of it as a massively-multiplayer boardgame: you have time to chat, you have time to smack-talk, you have time to watch each other's moves as well as your own. You win by having good strategy and tactics, not by having the best reactions.
