I'm not sure how the ratings on this game are as high as they are. I gave this game a fair shot, playing for a total of almost 2 months and when I quit I was around the 125’th highest ranked character. I managed this while not having a home internet connection for a month of my subscription. That was one positive thing about the game, I was able to get a bit of a mmorpg "fix" by playing 30 minutes every couple days at an internet cafe. As you probably read, the game is divided into two parts, the RTS client, and the web client. The RTS client has a very sloppy and undocumented interface. The entire game you are limited to a small handful of maps (4 or 5?) and these aren’t huge maps… This part of the game really looks like a freeware download for Windows 98 (with a fancy 3-D rotational view that hurts more than it helps) Ok the web based interface, isn’t that bad. However, the lag time in loading pages made me skip over things like renaming my cities. Each click would usually equal about 2 minutes of watching the screen. Yes, it was that bad…. I read a lot of different excuses about this lag, and even had hopes that it would go away after a month or so, but it didn’t. I read some comments of people in the The general idea behind the game is a good one IMO. However this is the only thing good about the game. The “community” is based mostly in the forums (communication is also not the games strong point) The RTS does have a chat client with 4 whole channels (including a private message channel), but in off hours you might find that the other 4 people logged on don’t feel like chatting. Yes - this is a very fair review.
The game is a good concept game - but doesn't really work in practise. Customer service from Lockpick is excellent though and I would not write them off for any other game they made. |
