Aion News - NDA Dropped, Aion Armory Unveiled

Posted by Michael Bitton on Jun 17, 2009  | 16 comments in our forums

According to AionSource the NDA for Aion has finally dropped. To go along with this announcement, the Aion Armory has also been unveiled.

You can find tons of information on Aion in the new Aion Armory. Developed by the Curse Network, the Armory's features  should be familiar to most users who have perused their databases for other games.

Check out the Aion Armory, here.

I saw a guide written for 1-10, which linked to things not in the database, kinda weird that.

While I am not allowed to post the address here, one my websites is giving away 5 beta keys... but for those who dont get one, there is information on how to get on the Chinese server for free.

Another thing that WoW gave MMO's... Leveling guides and character profiles.  LOTRO was the first to copy the profiles.  Of course, I suppose the leveling guide's weren't really from WoW, but the authors did make them much more mainstream, rather then hunt this area till 22, then go to that area till 27, now go over there, etc

I checked the page this morning already. It looks very good (too good?), but I doubt I'll use the guids & spoilers... I want to find out all there is about Aion myself, not being spoiled by guides, walkthroughs and things like that ;)

Funny, how can you have an NDA where many people have already played the chinese version?  Besides the language changes the game is the same.

Yeah!  Please give me all the answers because "I have better things to do"(tm) than waste all my time actually playing the game without having my hands held through every single experience as quickly as possible! Maybe in the next version, you will provide me with a bot that will play the game for me while I watch!

All hail the lazy WoW generation of MMO players!

You want to get mad at people who use leveling guides?  Why not direct your anger at the people who use bots and game hacks?  A guide might hurt my playing experience, but it won't hurt yours.  On the other hand, bots and game hacks can hurt your fun.  Heck, some of the worst offenders are from EQ, one of the first MMO's out there (read mq2).  Don't blame it all on WoW users.  WoW Guides are not the first guides for games out there, they are just the most prolific, since there are more players in that game then in any other.  Other game leveling guides have been around for years.  I know of some for EQ, EQ2, Lotro, FFXI, AoC, WAR, DFO, and more... yet you show hostility towards WoW made things?

Perhaps it's time to let go of the anger, take a few breaths, and relax.

Well, we will just have to agree to disagree then, because I think all this hand-holding in general ruins the gaming experience for everyone, not just the person doing it.  This has nothing to do with anger, and if you read anger into my post, that is only your imagination telling you that you can read my emotions through text. I assure you, you can't.

It's not just the database sites, it's the whole easy-button, hand holding gameplay these days.  I know, I know... you have "more important things to do" than waste so much time having to game with other players, or figure out quests and puzzles on your own.  After all, the T.V. is waiting for you in the other room for when you are done gaming.

I know my view isn't popular here, but I maintain that one of the reasons a growing number of players are sick and tired of this solo-happy theme-park game play is because there is no community in these games anymore.

UO has had the profile (paperdoll, currently equipped armor/weapons/ skills points listed, guild leaderboards, etc) for almost a decade. Leveling guides have been a feature attraction of UO Stratics for almost 12 years now.

"If it's in your MMO, UO did it first." - an old UO ad

Just looked at the armory, I can see that the itemization is still as shitty as it was in lineage 2.

Only basics stats on weapon like Crit, Hp and accuracy, and all of them have the same stats with just differents numbers.

No effects, procs or advanced stats boosts, and again the whole "tier" feeling which break the immersion completely.

And they also still have the crappy class system, with the archetype and the fake "class specialization"

Pretty game, with no game design, NCsoft indeed.

@LynxJSA I stand corrected, thank you for that.  Before WoW, I played Asheron's Call and Dark Ages of Camelot.  I even dabled in EQ2, SB,  and DDO.  None of them came with an armory at the time, so I only assumed.

@MindTrigger Perhaps you should try Darkfall... without bots/macros then, it will be right up your alley.  This game is so difficult, as there are no levels in the game.  You will forever be level 0.  The only thing you can do is level skills, and twitch play when it comes to PvP... it's all PvP btw, another reason to love this game, for hardcore users.  Since it's all skill leveling, then there are no leveling guides.  Additionally, it has full looting ability on killed PKs.

And if you read into my post, that I watch TV, then you are sadly mistaken.  I am on my computer for 12-16 hours a day, nigh everyday, and couldn't much care for the mindless drones it makes of my family.  On the other hand I found the perfect way to punish my kids... took the TV out, no computer, no phone... "Go to your room and read a book" - and they do.

So true! EQ1 had profiles and an armory long before WoW was gleam in some devs eye. True Thott took it to a new level, but still not even close to the first there.
