Well, that was a nice surprise. Got the key, dl'ing now.

Intrigued to see how much it will differ from the chinese beta I tried briefly.

I was getting the download error and then I turned on "submit anonymous statistics" in the settings and it worked. I don't know if it was related or a coincidence, but there you have it.

I don't think it's related.  I have my "submit anonymous stats" box toggled "on" like you and I am still getting the "try again later" message.  Oh well, I imagine I'll get it d/l'ed between now and this weekend.

It gave me the eror message for about 30 minutes, then it just randomly worked when I tried it one last time.

Keep trying periodically, eventually it'll work.

Awesome!  I've been trying to get a beta key for awhile and now mmorpg.com, the site that I frequent the most, gets a whole shipment.  Nice!

This is also more of a preview weekend then a beta since we are getting a pretty polished product.  Im guessing they just want to test out the "westernized" version of aion for us.  Nonetheless, im excited.

Massive traffic so don't expect fast speeds if you can even connect,hammering isn't going to solve the issue either,patience of which I have 0 is your only recourse.

Dude, you're seriously telling us that you don't know how to make another account and just lie about your birthday so that it says you're at least 18?  It's not that hard and you probably could have had it done by now if you spent the energy it took to complain on solving the problem instead.

I really wish these companies would offer alternate download locations besides the official patcher.

I've been trying to start the download on and off for the last 2 hours. Still no go. Even if it was working, from the sounds of it the download speed is absurdly slow.

Why not offer a torrent or post it on FilePlanet. Just out of curiosity I checked FilePlanet. They have the Chinese beta client up, but not the NA one.

Does that even make any sense?

This isn't directed at NCSoft exclusively, a lot of MMO betas/games do this. You download the patcher, then the only way to get the game is to use the patcher.

Just let me download the whole installation please!

No I haven't even gotten past Install Game and I've been trying for over an hour now.  Would be nice if you could just que the install or something.  Really sucks having to come back and manually click Install Game to be told to try again in a few minutes.

Or if people with NCsoft accounts from years ago got a little presidence on downloading.

Your post is more enraging than encouraging, unfortunately.  I've been trying repeatedly for quite awhile now.  One time it went to the download screen instead of "please try again," but then I hit another "error" and I've just had repeated "please try again" crap to deal with.... ;-_-

So I am waiting to DL says "try again in a few minutes"

Call my friend from work tell him about the open BETA he logs on and is DL right now. I am still waiting.

I've got a problem that seems to be exclusive to me.

I've downloaded the installer, but when I click on the NCSoft launcher nothing happens.  It doesn't respond at all.  Anyone else have this, or know what I should be doing?

Not to rub it in....ok yes I will LOL, the installer started up on the first try for me. It's slow, but is working.

Tried to cancel and install Aion from games list but there I got download data error and was asked to try again later.

Had to reinstall the launcher to get the US install back

That would be something to email NCSoft about.... I have no idea.

I would THINK it will be ok because it's probably going to be the same client for NA and EU when the game is released.  Your product key / account name might be what determine the region you are in.

Now I can not get another key because it says I have already gotten one. Please help, I have been tracking this game for a very long time and I will be very sad if I miss out :*(

have you checked your email, and the account you have on the site it should probably be listed somewhere there,also you can probably hit "view" on your internet explorer and go to the page you were just at

I don't know what you are talking about becuase if I go to http://www.mmorpg.com/giveaways.cfm/offer/71/Aion-Closed-Beta-Test-Giveaway-NORTH-AMERICA.html it shows the key I received on that page.  I don't get any kind of message that says I've already received a key.

All of the MMORPG.com betas work this way.  You can always see the code you received by going back to the giveaway page.

Downloading the game now too but at 90KBs with 5.3GB to download and a estimated time of 900 hours left I hope the speed improves or I don't think I will make the weekend :-) 

As an above poster said I am downloading a EU version but the install says US version. Hopefully am not downloading the wrong version and its just the one client for everyone.

If you got the key here, click the advetisement for the key giveaway on the main page. It will open up the page with your key if your logged in. If not, email the site you got the key from. If your having trouble seeing your key if you got it here, after clickling the advetisement, its below the first paragraph with a red background behind it. If you cant see that and see the button, your not logged in. Try clearing your IE cache and relogging in to the site and clicking the AD again. Ifyou still see the button to get a key then contact support for this site, they can help you.

I've downloaded the aion.exe from ncsofts site. Then I run it and it installs the NCSoft launcher. After that nothing happens. I double click/right click run the Launcher but nothing happens. It won't open or anything.
Anyone have any idea what I need to do?

I was fortunate enough to be checking my email when the letter went out. Arrived at a fresh 5,000 remaining.

150 keys were taken in 3 minutes.

100 more at 7 minutes.

Now, just about 450 remain three hours later.

That would be why.  1 key per IP address.

Best advice I can give you is use an internet enabled phone or a neighbor's unsecured wi-fi to get a key for yourself.

OK I've been playing the Chinese version for awhile now. I also have a Chinese account. i now have a key for this weekend. If i do the instaler as the free beta key page states, will it install a 2nd version of the game? Is the account they want me to create the same as the account I have with the Chinese account or do I need to make another?

Went and picked up my beta card from gamestop today.. came home super excited! And then..

After constant "The install information could not be downloaded.." messages it finally started to let me download! HUZZAH~

Then, a few moments later some  other error popped up, which I no longer have pulled up. Something about the server didn't have access or couldn't authenticate. Some BS. And then what? It booted me back to the TRY AGAIN IN A FEW LOLZ.

Anyone else get this? I'm worried that once I finally get back to my chance to download, that it will error again. :(

Lots of us in the same boat here. I've been clicking on that install button for a good 2 hours now.

Well I did take a break in between.

So! even better. When I exit the launcer, it says updating to the lastest version 10%, but is not doing anything. I exit it again, and it wants me to try to go through the LOL CAN'T CONNECT, try later thing again. Exit it again, goes back to the 10% thing.

yeah having the exact same issues except i accidentaly unplugged my computer when it was downloading now its at that error everytime.

Hmmm, instead of checking the percentage, try looking at the actual amount downloaded every 10 minutes or so, and see if it has changed.

Crap zero keys now. Why did I have to watch my Netflix DVD tonight, lol?

400kb/s = 400 x 2 ^ 10 bytes

5371.7mb = 5371.7 x 2 ^ 20 bytes

Now a bit of stoichiometry...

( 5632635699.2 bytes / 1) * (1 second / 409600 bytes) = 13751.552 seconds

(13751.552 seconds / 1) * (1 minute / 60 seconds) = 229.1925 minutes

229.1925 minutes looks very close to the 200, 300, and 400 minutes you people are getting on the download times.

I often get the "daily" newsletter a day or two later, sometimes I get one day and get the past two days, the next two days <.<.

I have my key as well from this promotion.

Only thing that bothers me is the promise NCSoft made to old TR players, where they'd be included in the beta as well. So far I haven't heard anything from that. Is NCSoft breaking a promise..?

I have been waiting so long to try this game and here I missed it lol. I want to just see how it is really, if anyone has an extra key I would greatly appreciate it. If not I guess i have to wait and see. :(

I would love to pre-order it.... but most shops in my country (The Netherlands) dont have it for pre-order. The ones that do dont offer a beta key with it

Thats the speed am getting and seems to be the general speeds that people are reporting, a few people have report 1Mb+ tho.

I have been downloading for just over 6 hours now I think and its at 33% so it should be done for the weekend :-)

Another fail by MMORPG.

Well my PC just crashed and I was a bit annoyed at the thought of maybe having to restart the download to say the least.

When I restarted the launcher the game did start again at 0% But this time the game is downloading at 1.3Mb a sec which is so much better and has just over 60mins for it to be complete instead of the 60Kb/900mins before, result! :D

Guess we had to be in the right place at the right time for this one. :(  I didn't get my email until this morning.

Indeed,word of the mmorpg.com giveaway spread over the net like wild fire,there is even a timeline(of sorts) on aion source of the keys being given away and how many were left....missed it by 10 mins.

Ya, that is understandable to have a 30 day member period before allowing participation in events like this. Of course, I am pretty sure this drew lots of attention to the website (even though I doubt they needed it).

But to everyone who had gotten a key, I will see you in game on Friday! Lucky me, I have no classes on Friday over this Summer so I am pretty sure it is going to be Aion non-stop for me.

I got my key last night when there were still around 4,200+ left.

As of this morning I had 53% of the program downloaded. Very excited!

Yes thanks MMORPG.com for shafting the EU playerbase.

I am pretty sure your fellow North Americans were happy getting all our keys too.

As you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that if you put the article up at a time the Europeans are asleep that the NA people would hijack all the EU keys, before we even woke up and had a chance at getting a key.

Maybe next time delay the EU key distribution till early afternoon CET. Just a thought.

For the record. I don't need a key as I am gone this weekend. But I know a lot of EU diehard Aion fans got shafted on this, because of the ridiculous time the article was put up.

So went out to gamestop today and got a beta key for Aion for 5 bucks.  My account for NCSOFT says that Aion is playable. So looks like I get to play this weekend after all..only I had to pay 5 bucks :P

Sorry about your luck...but look at it this way.

It gives those who have ignored the game from the beginning and never registered at the official site a chance to ...oooohhh...I think I see what ya mean.

Once you finish the download...can u play the game at all?  Or we won't be able to log in until this weekend?  I thought I'd at least be able to mess with character creation before this weekend. 

It is so unfortunate that a game like Aion send only 5,000 copies in the world having more than that amount, I think you should enlarge a little more for the next you see the number of licenses for future betas.

Its more than 5, 000 other websites are doing give aways as well, although most of them ask you to enter a competition of somesorts. On mmorpg, you get them without any additional effort :)

Is this a p2p download or direct download off their website? Most launchers use p2p and im wondering cause comcast blocks p2p for me.

Its a direct download via the NCsoft launcher :) 

Its a wee bit slow at the moment but you will have plenty of time to download it for the weekend.

I also got a key though not from this site but I signed up in here just to type in this thread.

The DNS issue they were having last night and this morning seems to have worked itself out. We were able to start downloading after lunch today at around 400 KBs.

I have the new client installed now after 15 hours of downloading. I cannot log in however. Says invalid username/password combination. I checked and verified it is the same one. Could it be that it is just not this weekend yet so its not turned on?

Do you even know that this game is

I played Aion at PAX 08',  i got invited to demo a two hour trial and got to level 7 in that time.

I play WoW i play GW.

Aion gives you the best of bothworlds imo, WoW is fun, sure, everyone knows it, its a popular game, but for me it lacks in creativity. It's become a generic MMO. I despise the character creation as well, you can't really get your personality out whatsoever.

Playing the Aion trial, the character creation is nothing like i've ever seen. It's up there with City of Heroes, but unlike that game, here we get Armor sets.

this Beta is going to kill, forums are going to flood with how epic this game is. If i were you, i'd belive the hype.

Coming from someone whos played almost every mmo game to date, this has been the most fun.

I downloaded the game and updated it and everything. Then i started it up just to see if it would work and be ready for friday! When i start it up my Moniter says "out of range" and turns off. I still hear the music and stuff in the background though. I alt tab and my screen turns back on.

Whats goin on? is there a way i could fix this? Any ideas before friday? I realy wana play! hehe

I think your problem is that its trying to load up on a 2nd moniter or its just loading off screen and in this case window out and look for the game tab at the bottem of the window, right click, and click move a couple of times. Also when you do this try putting it in windowed mode on a small resolution, it will make it easier.

Now for my inner fanboy, I got my key today and got the client all loaded and ready. I am giddy to try out Aion, though I dont know if I want to hit lvl 10 or not. I kinda want to save that for live!!!! Friday is gonna be amazing as I have cleared my schedule haha. My only hope is that after this beta event Ncsoft announces an actual date for the US release that is short in coming. I wont believe the date on gamestop and such till its actually announced! That way I can keep hoping for an earlier release hahaha.

oh this is so cruel..former Tabula Rasa players were supposed to get beta access and the note i got yesterday from NCSoft said to expext the iinvite in the next 1-2 days.....why do i feel screwed again

As for those crying about "only" 5,000 keys released in the world please read up before you post. Although I understand your plight all you have to do is go to a gaming store, pre-order the game, and BAM you have a beta key, yes its that simple and has nothing to do with luck. They give you slim game case with an Aion card containing a beta code which gaurentees you access to all their beta events!!!!!!!!! So get off the couch and to a gaming store near you if you want in the beta! You still have time!
 

yeah but my arguement is former TR players were GUARANTEED beta access and not a single one that I know have gotten jack as far as the beta goes.  Keys were gone here by the time i got off work too.

I can understand your plight sir as that is a valid reason. I am just trying to get word out about the beta opportunity that you recieve for pre-ordering. Not trying to target anyone. Plus at worst you'll get to start on saturday according to your post earlier about a 1-2 day wait for the beta info.

Correct ACTIVE subscribers when they decided to can the game were the only ones given this Promo.... No i do not know the current status of this promotion. I will try to do some digging around about it tho.

Edit: On a side note, all those who said they got home too late, what shift is it you work? the keys ran out roughly at 9:00 PM pst for the NA beta.

I can almost smell the darkfall like hype-hate machine waiting for this game.. Those keys got gone FAST..lol..

What would make you say this? as everyone who has really tried the game says the "Grind" to max level is actually FASTER then that of what WoW was from 1-60 when it came out.

So again, where are you getting this impression or information that this game is going to be some great elaborate grind like Lineage where you ground for 2 weeks to get half a level... died once and lost it all... (little over exaderation i know)

I tryed to do that. when i right click on the Aion client tab everything is greyed out except Restore and Close. I only have one Moniter plugged in too. so i dont think its running on another screen. Any other Ideas?

Did you check to see if you have the duel moniters option going? Done that myself before.

It seems that Aion has a very strong interest even among those that are heavily invested in other games.  If I remember right, yesterday when I got my key, there were already 300 keys gone from the stash and that was only 30 minutes after the topic was made.  They quickly dispersed after that.

I didn't really notice when it had gone up.  It was just over 4100 keys when I clicked on it...

My personal interest in Aion is simply that its new and I'm bored out of my skull.  I also figure every game from a developer I have liked or a game I hyped myself into sucked... So I'm willing to look at Aion.  Then after what I see this weekend I may pre-order it.

I would just like to find a game I'll play for more than 30 days...

If you pre-order the game you get a key that will allow you to play in all beta events and the early access event. If you order online from GameStop you don't have to pay anything until the game actually ships. This is probably your best bet.
