GameGuard Goes Bye-Bye
The Aion official website has been updated with details on Aion's launch version, and one bit that stands out in particular is NCsoft's dropping of GameGuard from the title. Realizing the overall hindrance GameGuard's presence is causing users due to beta feedback, NCsoft has done the right thing by their fans and dropped the tech until they can figure out how to "effectively utilize GameGuard within Aion in the future".

Selling Like Hotcakes! Over 300k Served!
Well, not quite served yet, but they've taken your pre-order and given you a bit of an appetizer, all 300,000 of you! NCsoft has announced that pre-order sales for Aion have been stellar. In a report published at GamesIndustry.biz we've learned that NC West has revealed that 300,000 preorders have been sold so far.

Open Beta Ends, the Wait Begins
The Aion Open Beta test ended this morning at 8AM CST, and with the doors now closed, the wait begins. The doors will open again on September 18th for players eligible for the Pre-select program, which allows players to select their servers, reserve their names, and create their characters a full two days before the Head Start program begins. The Head Start program will then begin on the 20th, with the floodgates opening for the full launch two days later on the 22nd.

NCsoft and DC Partner for Comic Book
Similar to the partnership between SOE and DC Comics' WildStorm for their Free Realms comic book, Aion will also be receiving the comic book treatment. The DC Comics WildStorm team will be creating an Aion comic book that will be available exclusively at the upcoming Penny Arcade Expo or with purchase at GameStop.

Open Beta, Pre-Select, Headstart Dates
The Open Beta, Pre-select, and Head start program dates have been announced today by NCsoft. Open Beta will commence on September 6th, and run through to September 13th, with a level cap of 30. The Pre-select program, which allows pre-order customers to select their character name and server in advance, will begin on September 18th, with the headstart program beginning two days later on the 20th.
