Aion News - Basic Beginner's Guide to Crafting

Posted by Jon Wood on Oct 13, 2009  | 9 comments in our forums

MMORPG.com Aion Correspondent Brandon Stiles writes this basic guide to crafting from a beginner's standpoint in NCsoft's newest MMO.

Now that Aion is officially in full swing there are some things that you may want to know while you are exploring Atreia. There are many quests to complete, opposing factions to compete with and items to collect along the way. But what if you want to create your own items instead of hoping for them to drop from monsters? That is where the fine art of crafting comes in. There are a variety of crafting skills that can be learned ranging from Weaponsmithing to Alchemy to Handicrafting. They each have their own benefits and useful purpose within the game. Your first steps into crafting will start with your gathering skill.

Nice article, but actually, you can view the "designs" that you've already learned and the necessary materials for each design when you are far from a crafting table. All you need to do is: press "K", right click on your profession (armorsmithing, etc...) and select the design. It will display all the informatio about it.

Also here are a couple tips when you first start crafting.

1. Use your lvl 1 work order to craft to 40. Why? It's free! You do not have to buy any materials. Yes it takes a bit longer but like I said It's free and you get tons of rewards and designs you can use later or sell if needed. =)

2. Instead of crafting all of the items given to you, craft only the amount needed e.g. Work order says to craft 12 items but gives you 15 items to craft with. Only craft the 12 items needed. You will save money and get more rewards for each 10 lvls.

3. Once it starts getting expensive to craft only craft up to the lvl of the designs you need for your characters level. Usually 5 lvls at a time.

4. You do not need to run back and forth from the crafting table to the npc that gives the work orders. If you stand at a close table by the npc you should be able to use both without running around. This saves time.

5. Post on the Aion forums in This thread to show support that we need a extra crafting cube for crafting materials. There is just not enough space for players to hold onto crafting items in their personal cube or warehouse cube. This is a much needed request.

Thats all I can think of for now.

Well, I saw iron but never the other two.  I got some sort of weed and an apple-like thing. Maybe I'm playing a different game?

The 'weed' is the Angelica, and the 'apple' is the Mela...

they were called  [Angelica]  in the  'CB & OB' when the game came out, the "weed" as you called it was given a new name ... not that it mattered but now it's called [Azpha] some food names changed  as i'm the guild food crafter i did not see why i should throw a tizzy just because of a tiny name change LMAO!

One real important  thing to remember is to save all the fluxes you find.  Make a banker alt if you have to, but save them up.  One piece of gear can use up to 10 fluxes, and since they tend to drop one at a time from mobs, you can see why stock piling them is a good idea.

Keeping a good supply of aether is advisable too.

Sure, you can often buy all that from the Broker, but wow does that get expensive.

I second the motion for a seperate crating and gathering inventory cube, as well as a more space in the warehouse.  No lie, just for cooking, I have one toon with who is only 20th level but has 32 seperate items (the mats + the final products) he uses with cooking.

Add in the fact that many of the quests fill up your inventory with "deliver this and collect that"... I can make a very strong case for a seperate quest inventory in a the way Perfect World has.

Pleas post a comment in this thread if you wish to have a crafting cube or warehouse space. http://na.aiononline.com/forums/suggestion/view?articleID=2637 The more people that post and want it the better the chance we will get it.
