No, they are making a 'rookie' server intead I think... though I'm no expert so don't take it as gospel. I think on a rookie server you basically play with other newbies, moving to a real sever at 46 (where you will once more be at the mercy of the vets). I would love them to make a fresh PvE server just to try the idea out and test player reaction. It would cost them next to nothing and could potentiolly bring back 10s of thousands (call me a optimist). |

This is true though in Aion knowing your class only gets you so far, as any game focused around levels and gear. On the upside the rookie servers are F2P and you should at least make friends to move to the new server with (or get recruited by guilds that are smart enough to grab new players from there). |

I wouldn't mind a PvE server, they should add PvE servers and find out if it would gain more players. SWTOR: sub ended, no thanks to Georg Zoeller! |

As said no explicit "PvE server" like we here are used to know, but thats only by the common western standards. This rookie server can be however considered as some kind of PvE server or unique type. You do not need to "start" on the "rookie server", but you can switch to one from the normal server like you can switch to another channel. - theres no PvP or rifitng possible - multiple server can join the same "rookie server" - trade, auctions, legions and mentoring are restricted - xp gain is boosted by default at double digit rate, forgot how much exactly. - Access all up to level 45 so level 60 against level 46 PvP is the future worst case scenario unless you go for it. (Thats ironically much more casual and PvE playerfriendly than many other popular MMORPGs where every max level player can kill pretty much everyone irelevant of his level too without any restriction on normal server, even without any rifting obstacles but for some reason Aion is painted as some kind of exception of never seen ganking freedoms.) -access from every pre 2.0 zone as far as I know, via teleport like switching to another channel. -access on rookie server is like free trial until hitting level 40, dont know about time limit for free player.
Nielsen game ratings - Jan 2012 Top-Games: World of Warcraft played 2x more than LOL; WoW played 6 times more than Aion |

TBH, it is another obvious miss call in a long series of miss calls for this game... It would have been so much easier to just let the current servers be full on PvP, merging as required even further, and put up one that is PvE for 3.0 to test the concept and potentiolly bring new blood and a future to the game. The sad thing about Aion is that it hasn't reached it's current player base because it's a bad game at it's heart... because it's not. It has reached it because of poor handling and poor reading/ understanding of the Western market. It really is the only other game, alongside TCoS, that makes me a little sad for what it could have been. |

Aion's definitely a good game. I don't really understand why so many treat this in the same manner as say.. AoC(totally botched launch). I've heard it grouped together so much I just have to raise my eyebrow and ask why. Not to say that it wasn't lacking in features at launch which was something we all knew or should have known then.. the moment I started playing the game in beta I knew what I was getting into.. from both my history with NC soft(I know that nc soft tends to release earlier than most western devs but also support their games generally really well) and the extensive coverage so many sites gave the game at the time. It wasn't the launch that hurt things it was the nature of the game pre 2.0 and the way NCsoft mishandled the server merges that really hit this game.
On my server(Lumiel) we had a history of a rather balanced server.. especially when both the asmos and the elyos had competent leaders. So we'd have a few months asmo domination then elyos domination and then the asmo leader retired and to compound this issue the servers merged soon after. We(the elyos) of Lumiel were primed and ready with fully intact leadership and a whole faction still riding high in moral to be the first to get the central fort. There was one good day of great PVP on new israphiel and then we managed a sneak attack on said fortress causing mass upset on the asmo side.. People immideately overreacted and took advantage of the free server transfer option and left in droves for the only(at the time) asmo dominated server making it even more lopsided on our server and impossible for the elyos on that server.
While forts are now not nearly as important as they once were.(you can now get ap even if your faction isn't the one dominating) At the time this two sided faction war was very important. This caused a whole lot of crying and honestly I'd say people have a right to be upset when they can't progress because they're faction has up and decided that they won't participate with sieging. It hurt our community and there just wasn't enough other than this massive meta game of sieges to really give us a rewarding end game.. sieging when you aren't being opposed is boring. It's one thing to have guild based player run alliances such L2 where the most powerful tend to be eventually toppled by some group of smaller alliances it's another to not even have a choice who's your enemy and who's not leading to a seeming perpetual supremecy of one faction over the other.
They are making steps towards vast improvement in the last few updates. Shifting the focus from exclusive mass pvp end game to more pve and smaller instanced pvp as well as rp/immersion stuff such housing and mounts. Creating spots where Elyos and Asmos actually coexist(honestly lore wise how stupid is it to be fighting one another when the real enemy is so obvious).. not buddy buddy but definitely forced to be civil. They're creating areas where pvp is sanctioned and are giving this areas some nice bonuses which will insure people will go there. If you just don't feel like getting ganked then you don't have to be. Which in turn will let those who wish to pvp know where to find some action. Good and I'll be there to take a look... right after I finish my characters in SWTOR.. and after I play some GW2 if it's out by then.. oh and let's not forget TERA.. hmm see the problem? |

I actually hit the Sub button for this today. It took 15 minutes to remember why I left. It wasn't just me either. I was back in noob area and in 2 hrs we got hit by 5 lagg spikes that lasted 2-5 minutes. The reason I knew it wasn't just me was when the chat updated I got the scroll of players who died while grinding due to said lagg spikes. Tha spells fail in a PvP driven game. |
