I played AION at start up.Played to level 25-26.  Got a look at pvp and found it the worst mess I can ever recall a game company passing off as a finished product. Combining this with those ahead complaning about the mindless grinding and...I LEFT never to return. Well...I'm waiting until one of the games I'm interested in is launched and wanted to know about the current state of the game. In particular I'm interested in

-Realm vs realm conflict

-leveling

-crafting

can anyone educate me on the current state of the game..and where it seems to be going ?

Short answer: The game has gotten ALOT better since launch.

RvR:

still much the same as it was at launch with some added features. Alot of balancing was done in classes that will naturally extend into the RvR. An arena was added that allows you to fight either elyos or asmodian in a controlled environment. No more roaming around waiting to be ambushed by 7 people.

Leveling:

I personally can take a character from level 1 - 55 in a matter of a week. The leveling speed has increased dramatically and the addition of mentors helps alot as well. Having trouble? Bring a level 55 with you and still enjoy full exp gain and full item drops and tear through your quests and levels like rice paper.

Crafting:

Crafting is almost too easy now. It still requires a fair amount of effort and time, but certain things(like miragents armor) are almost handed to you. If you fail to proc your heart 3 times then you get a free one. However things like Balaur armor and high end expert armor are still very difficult to craft. But getting to that point is a breeze.

PvP:

Much balancing has been done in this respect and alot can be said for the changes NC has made. Adding the remove shock skill nerfed alot of classes and brought much needed balance to all of the classes. Since it is available to all classes and not just a skill added to one in particular it makes for an interesting fight.

Graphics:

Graphics took a nice step forward adding some much needed flare to the seemingly outdated graphics engine. And alot of the stability was adressed as well. I can't even remember a time when i heard someone complain about crashing int he middle of a fort raid. It just doesnt happen anymore.

Hope this helps

Thanks. I saw Aion going FTP...in Europe. Now I'll just have to wait for North America to do the same and I'll give the game another look.
