i'll admit i was bored as hell a few days ago and stumbled onto the latest 2.6 patch (at least that's why i think it's called). anyways i decided to give it a go..... maybe this time i'll actually get to end level. not sure about all the changes as i'v only been playing for a few hours, but the games seems to have upped it's graphics quite a bit. it's hard to belive since they already had top notch graphics but the world texture especially seem much more detailed. more colors, even lots of mobs seem to have had a facelift.

is Aion cranking up the graphics to try compete with Tera( in the east that is) these days?

Maybe patch 3.0

I'm not starting over again.

They updated the visuals of the most popuar MMORPG in Korea and generally all developed Eastern nations markets, to mostly "up to date" standards. This graphical overhaul was in planing long ago and in schedule, as partly could be seen in the Vision trailer, which so many recentfull fanboys of other gamers tried (some still try) to brush off as "fake" when it was released  in 2009. TERA could've been released or not. They worked on it already before, because progress on the graphical quality of MMORPGs and that includes the competition too was and still is obviously expectable.

And by making the upgrades both optional and polishing the engine the game actually runs even smoother than before, with high emphasis on smoother (not neccessarily generally faster or anything) while lagspikes have been reduced even for masspvp combat.

And they coinicidentally just like EvE before countered the cheap and lazy excuse to recent to both simple and qualitative cheap visuals and graphical developement or "stilized" as some falsely call that marketing ploy, "to run smooth on even old computer" compensating with (so called) "quality artistic style" as bollocks again.

I played WoW for 4 years ...

Honestly, after trying so many other MMO to replace WOW, I'm sure I'll be in AION for a long time (at least until the patch 3.0).

Maybe I'll take a look at SW or GW2, but .... I think they are different styles of games.

I have no idea why Aion would want to compete with TERA when Aion is more successful game and has nothign to worry in terms of competition from Tera.

Uh..

you just made me notice TERA is not even in the top 10 anymore and dropped below Dungeon Fighter, Lineage and Linaege 2 even... I knew the werent running all too popular but not that less... for it got a pretty neat technological basis and quite some decently designed content.
