Ok i am a little disappointed. Downloaded 17 gb of game just to find same old graphics. The game looks nothing like the videos i saw on this website and others. I am on 10 day trial so i am not sure if some settings are diabled for me. I have tried everything but AION still looks old. Yes character model and animations are  superb, to be fair they have always been since beta but everything else looks dated.

I also saw a new depth of field effect in some videos and screenshots and i was unable to find that option too. And yes my PC is capable of running all latest PC games on maximum details. What am i doing wrong here or those new videos of AION were just a sham?

Looking for some suggestions please.

My new motto; Nothing worth saying takes less than a giant wall of (kinda)structured text! :D

I feel the same way, but im slightly worse off than you, AS i noticed that after installing the latest update to the game, my graphics almost have taken a turn to the worse, as SOME parts of the ground textures on the landscape look awful now (extremly low resolution).

Either thats a real bug, OR the update increased the graphical quality of ONLY SOME parts of the landscape, thus making a strong contrast between the ''old and new''.

"Money can't buy happiness" is a lie.
Money can buy you a pool and some Prozac.

Hit O, to open the menu, select Options. In the new pop up window look for the tab called Graphics or something like that. In there scroll down to the bottom. As you scroll you should be able to see the Advanced options. Hit that and max everything out and see if your PC can handle it. The client will warn you if a Restart is needed. Post results.

I am sorry but i have tried every setting possible. I changed setting from default to high quality and cranked everything to max and yet it looks nothing like the videos used to promote the new patch. I am not spoiled by amazing looking graphics so i can still enjoy the game, just that i find the whole advertising of new patch very misleading.

hmm.. I see a huge difference.  Im not crazy about the new vivid colors but I found that setting the bloom level to 1 blends the colors/shadows/overall game a lot better then no bloom.

still think they could have added some actual terrain features like actual grass instead of flat stretched out textures that represent vegetation growth.

overall though, character detail, architecture detail and shading are pretty incredible.

is it possible that your hardware isnt capable of the higher shader models, lighting etc?

I am using ATI 5870 card ;)  guess i have no one but my high expectations to blame. I am having fun but i got too hyped after watching the new videos. Expect for character animations and textures everything around just looks very bland.

The best part about the graphic updates isnt even the massive graphic improvements, its the fact that the game now runs actually smoother than before with the upgrades and I havent even tried to manually unlock the 64 bit clientversion yet. At medium scale even sieges are now playable smoothly without removing playmodels. (Usual max. PS is not raised but FPS drops are less frequent and average FPS thus raised)

As for OP. Take a few screenshots with everything at max and HQ and link them here and we may affirm you if there is some hope for you i.e. you might not have actually seen the "upgraded" graphics at all. A few indivuduals have problems with their hardware support. Its doesnt matter if its considerable a "highend" machine and hypotetical all tech like shaders are supported. Specific drivers aswell as type of hardware have caused in some few cases conflicts with the upgraded engine. Some player can put everything at max with HQ and still nothing or not all is changed.

Nielsen game ratings - Jan 2012 Top-Games: World of Warcraft played 2x more than LOL; WoW played 6 times more than Aion
X-Fire player stats - Jan 2012 Top-Games: League of Legends played 1.5x more than WoW; WoW played 15 times more than Aion
"X-fire, always turned out accurate","X-fire, just like real surveys","X-fire, reason to suspect bias? no!",

I see a graphics increase. Perhaps the graphic enhancement applied to those who have a WLED screen?

There is definitely a difference. It's important too note that though some textures are clearer, more sharp it's not as if they swapped out every texture in the game.

I have definitely noticed a difference in the lighting and shadows. How the light shines on the areas of armor that are closest to the viewer, etc.
