Those who ask a question, are stupid for 30 seconds. Those who never ask, are stupid for life. |
So I bought Aion ages ago (collector's edition) and I know when it first went free to play...it used PMB
Is that still the case? Or did they finally remove that? If not, does it still get installed when using the Steam version? I don't want it installed at all, not even for a brief minute. I know there is a way to disable it in the launcher...but I just don't want it on my computer. Current MMOs: Defiance, Guild Wars 2, TERA, SWTOR |

It still uses Pando Media Booster. I never saw NCSoft state otherwise, though I only play sporadically.
Is there a downside to PMB? Just curious. It doesn't seem to take over your machine like EA's Origin. PMB only uses the internet when playing Aion. (I run root level software to show what applications are using my bandwidth) Want a nice understanding of life? Try Spirit Science: "The Human History" |

Check your program list via Add/Remove program, if you see Pando Media Booster, then that probably answers your question.

thats too bad, since Aion is the only MMO I'm interested in out of the free to play MMOs. But I won't have Pando on my PC at all...ah well...

Originally posted by saurus123 guess you missed where I don't want to uninstall it...because I don't want it on my PC at all. Should take the time to read, it was at the end of my last sentence.
However, if the above poster (not the one in the quote) is right...I can turn off the installer for Pando, so it never touches my PC? Current MMOs: Defiance, Guild Wars 2, TERA, SWTOR |

To confirm for others who don't use PMB...you can turn off that spyware in the NCsoft launcher. Just right click the game (Aion) and you can tell it not to use PMB.
PMB single handedly forced me to go to Vista, since it messed with Windows XP system files when a game I used installed it (without my permission, which makes it Spyware) (and vista was only OS I had, was too poor to buy XP again) And it ALWAYS slows my PC down by 75% performance, no matter the OS or hardware, and even when no game or program is running in the background. I will never use anything that uses PMB. Horrible horrible downloader.
Luckily, Aion lets you turn that right off. So now Aion is downloading as I type this :) Current MMOs: Defiance, Guild Wars 2, TERA, SWTOR |

If you watch a game, it’s fun. If you play it, it’s recreation. If you work at it, it’s FF-XIV. |

Originally posted by TheScavenger Yeah pmb gave my video streaming a hit for a while I couldn't figure out what it was. P.S. It's not my internet connection I'm watching will it donkey on 1080p while my little brother plays halo4 and my step fathers playing WoW w/skype. Once I removed it I could watch divx videos again normally. pmb suck, however it's come a long way it used to freeze on win7 over and over again making you restart the downloads multiple times just to download one thing. Your best bet is to install it to get the game then unistall it since it's only required for the initial install. |

I believe you have to use PMB to download the game (it did so automatically when I recently downloaded the client). I then noticed my web browsing was CRAZY slow. Windows defender and Norton's didn't give any indication of virus activity. Finally, I found this PMB and uninstalled it. BINGO! Everything back to normal and the game still worked -well, at least as well as it did prior to uninstalling PMB. When you launch the game, there is a check-box to NOT use PMB, check it if you've uninstalled it. I, too, don't want that piece of crap on my system. |
