theres pvp in a pvp-centric game? oh the horror
seriously now, why are people so anti pvp nowadays? It surely makes things more interesting, as you can only play while watching tv for so long... in pvp games you have to actually pay attention while playing, and cant play while doing other 3 things at the same time, and people take that as a bad thing ? :p
althro forced pvp has its ugly sides, but there are many people who like pvp and dont just go around ganking all the defensless people they see. But it just takes a few people to give pvp games bad name.
One thing i'd like to see more in mmos is 'massive' part of it though, so people who get killed by higher lvls dont just ragequit but ask for some higher lvls they know/ faction mates for help instead.
Sadly, most people who play mmos now want to solo 99% of the game, so suggestions like 'why dont you ask for help, or team up' sound so alien to them. |

NCSoft could offer a 24 hour or 1 week "NO PVP" token in their shop......... guess what ? i would buy it :)

the problem is that if ncsoft made a pve server, then gankers wouldn't have carebears to kill anymore |

Uh, there's pretty much no forced PvP now if you roll on Israphel, Tiamat, or Siel. There's a 80%/40% debuff to rifters in the PvE zones for each side, which means it's VERY rare for the opposing side to come to your side and start killing lowbies. Even when they do, the debuff makes it hard for them to kill you before you can run away. There will still be cases where a group of extremely over geared players will band together to roam, but with the debuffs on it's so rare that you'll most likely never see it. There's no reason to go into the Abyss at 25 now, as there's much better ways of leveling with new personal instances and increased exp from quests and campaigns. The new end game zone has PvP disabled for most of the areas. There are select 'contested' zones where PvP is enabled, but they tell you when you're entering one such zone and there's very little reason to enter them if you don't want to PvP or do PvP related quests. Ie, as long as you don't roll on Kahrun, Aion 3.0 is a PvE player's paradise. |

Originally posted by Portland You can't disable PvP as such, but you can avoid it entirely for the majority of the game if not the entire game. (I've only made it to level 50 so far. if you're asmodian, just do Altgard quests up to the lvl 16 dungeon, which you can effectively use to level you to 25 if you want (I did it about 10 times before I ended up tired of it) but you can travel to brusthonin at 20 and start doing quests there. At 25 you have NTC, that you can repeat until you're level 30 and then switch to Fire Temple (chance at PvP if you're wating outside) then move to Kromede's Trial at 38 and steel rake at ~40. SR can level you to 45 easy and then back to brusthonin for more quests. There is solo dungeons after 50 as well.

Just throwin this in: 3.5 will remove ALL Rifting debuffs from pre 3.0 zones and turn them back to classic Rifting again. Not just that Brusthonin and Theobomos will receive additional PvP objectives and mechanics with the "dimensional distruption" gamesystem which is basically Rifting with additional goals and incentives . A lot of ppl left after they came to exactly that realization and NC-Soft tried to pad the holes with rifting debuffs. A simple flagging routine would have kept a lot of people playing but nvm. Sounds like the ZvP/PvG players got what they wanted. Still: Too bad they never managed to introduce PvP in an otherwise nice game.
