latest additions to Aion's 1.5.1 patch notes illustrate the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" reality that is MMO development. They also show a potential communication disconnect between the game's players and developers or possibly even unrealistic expectations. Upon reading the pages and pages of player comments on these patch note additions, the general opinion can be summarized as such: "These changes don't address our major complaints." There's no doubt that 1.5.1 will greatly improve Aion (less grind anyone?), but players seem to be sticking on a few major points that aren't yet in the tentative patch notes. Most of the players commenting on these notes seem to feel that Aion's first big patch should tackle the crashing fortresses issue (crysys.dll), flying spiritmaster pets, better UI customization, and a number of other issues (less grind included). There also appears to be resistance to a new debuff that will be added to aether extraction. Players will now be randomly debuffed when gathering, but can quickly remove it by typing a captcha. This change is obviously aimed at bots, but many state this will become an annoyance for everyone.

I agree... they very much need to address the siege crashes and bots (but we were told via Twitter Bots are being dealt with and this wasn't anywhere in the patch notes).
The xp boost though will make a huge improvement from the 37-40 range....
Patch 1.6 will be the REALLY big one (this is where SM flying pets happen, etc)... |

In game captchas? Good God. That is horrendous. I can't think of a worse way to deal with bots. Punish the whole player base because you can't stop the bots yourself. |

There is a way to bot collecting Aether? |

Like you said damned if you do and damned if you dont. If they try to cater to much the game will be a huge clusterfuck. |

A person running them hits the one captcha and then they could just stay online for days. I imagine this one would be more effective in that it continues to bother the character.

The only way anyone is going to stop bots totally is until there is touch sensitive controls while programs just reads responses of those controls and possibly even measure the amount of pressure on the control, such as a key press or a mouse click to calculate if it is a real player or not. Even that won't hold up when robots become the real deal, and when skynet becomes self-aware we are fucked anyway. It's a losing battle that will constantly be exploited.

Atm I see 3 big complaints, thats Grind - more quest xp Bots - some strange (and probably useless) captcha system Crashes (during sieges) - The patch adresses, or tries, 2 points of those. I dont see why anyone is going "meh" about this. And yeah, I can write down a hundred of things I would like to have changed too. |

At first I was WTF about the captcha too, but now that I have had some time to think about it, it feels good. There just isn't a mechanism to automatically remove bots. Active GMs would be one, but I'm pretty sure they won't hire people for that. I'd like to see them adding a mechanism to mob killing too, if you don't write that captcha you don't get any drops or exp until you do. Annoyance, yes. Prevents bots, probably. I know I'd be pissed to it, but thinking of the possible good it brings might just overcome the annoyance. |

The spawn points are static so yes, they are bottable. I've had a look into the Aion "hacking" communnity, and it seems that they are having an easy time finding Aions mem locs. I'm sure that this captcha can be found just as easy. |

Yah they bot Aether 100% guaranteed. In herion at least ive seen 2 lv 15s going at the SAME spot over and over then flying back exactly to their starting resting point. even thought there was like a bunch of closer places. Whats even MORE retarded its that they even stole some of my gathering while i was trying to test their route. The new system woudl help against bots, but I would also hope for them to return us the lost Flight time. I mean we do have to go somewhre and input the damned code and waste our FT in the process. |
