I beta tested the game and even played it for two months after it went live.  To put simply Disney dropped the ball. I liked all 3 of the movies, so I was hoping for something really good. Alas Disney took a PG-13 movie series and turned it into a cartoony game that's rated E 10 and up.  They already had Toontown Online for kid. They could have made  a good T rated game., but this is Disney we are talking about. I hope and pray they never try to make a Narnia MMO, becuase they'd mess it up too.

Well that was simply my two cents, you can take it or leave it.

When we get back from where we are going, we will return to where we were. I know people there!

"Easy" only equals "better" for crack addicts and MMORPG developers.

I too played the game for a bit. Totally agree, it is a game made more for kids...least that is the feeling I got from it

My neighbor plays the game with his kids.  That was what the game was designed for. Nothing wrong with that, just that it does not really fit the mold of what most posters on this forum play.

Never try to teach a pig to sing,it wastes your time and annoys the pig.

I beta tested it.  It was an ok game but not worth a monthly fee.  The free version was too crippled to be any fun at all.

Because it's a Disney game aimed at 8 year olds? And they didn't take into account 8 year olds are smarter than they look?

As far as I'm concerned, it had too many problems when I played  (please note, I haven't played since shortly after release, so things may have changed):

  • Graphics - I don't mind cartoony, but why are all the characters off-balance and misshapen?
  • Performance - lagged like hell and poor FPS
  • Interruptions - too many cut scenes you couldn't escape out of
  • Patching - in order to patch the game, you need to login first (I prefer patch first, login second).  Even this wouldn't be a problem, uless you're a free player, in which case you need to login and WAIT IN A QUEUE JUST TO PATCH!  WTF?
  • installation - absolutely no custom install options - you install it where it wants to and you'll bloody well like it!

My kids liked it "ok", but it had so many issues that we gave up on it shortly after downloading it.  As far as kids games go, Wizard101 is the tops in our house.

It took me great effort to play Pirates of Caribbean Online because Disney do not accpet credit card outside of USA. So I beg my friend in the US to pay for me. I subscribed 6 months for $49,95 just not to beg my friends every month. Finally, I can play. But after one month, I never bother to login again because I knew I will only show up in the casino gambling.

The game was fun if you have seen the movie as well. But not until I realized that you are going to skill up like any other F2P. Although it is not a heavy weight skill grind but close enough.

The commercials make it look way better then it is because they just kinda surf over what the characters and graphics actually look like in-game and show you Jack Sparrow perfectly rendered. When I saw the actual game I felt kinda gipped because the avatars have creepy polygon setups and look way more cartooney then I would have liked.

It's a kids game on track with Toon Town. I would expect much from it really.

Its a game aimed at children and perhaps there parents to some degree.

This forum is mainly filled with teenagers and adults.

Thats why its not popular here.

This seems to be a real problem with a lot of game design nowadays.  I think it's because you've got people with very little experience in dealing with preteens desgining the games, so they underestimate them.

OK, totally wild guess here with no research to back it up, but if the designers are in their twenties, it's likely that their experiences with kids are newborns or preschoolers.  So they aren't experienced with kids in the age group they're trying to reach.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Because the game isn't worth paying for. I remember playing it and sometimes I got real laggy and 8/10 times I would get disconnected when trying to board a ship, but when I just went to another land area it worked fine?

I know the graphics are supposed to be cartoony, but they could've been done better. I think the graphics are what disappointed me the most. Coming in and thinking of the movies I thought it was gonna be awesome almost real looking game, but then I saw the cartoony bs. Even then, I thought it was a joke and kept playing hoping at some point it was actually gonna turn into something closer to the movie.

I have to say though. The intro was pretty funny. Pretty much all the cutscenes are good and give the excitement of the movies.

All in all I'd say this game feels all the way through as if it should be completely free. There's nothing that compels you to pay for this game other than its license. I think it has a cash shop too which once again proves that Disney or w.e. is all about the money and nothing else. Yet, they feel in some of their movies they need to preach against consumerism -_-

The game isn't popular because it has...

1: Terrible graphics.

2: A nazi-themed chat watch program that can/WILL ban you for singing 99 bottles of beer on the wall.

3: A bad situation in which a fairly gritty fantasy pirate-themed movie was turned into a rated "E" game, where you massacre british soldiers via stabbing, but you can't say the word "blow, Uranus, ANY numbers at all (even typed out, etc."

4: The worst naval combat system I've ever seen, short of that horrible MMO pirate game in which little cannonballs fly at the little ships. Ugh.

5: I'm playing it right now, and I have a beastly system. I can run CoD4 with no trouble on Medium settings. This game lags me. This awful, awful game lags me.

Why do I play it?

1: To hit on chicks that are over 18 that have a pirate obsession.

2: To troll the game relentlessly.

I think it's because it's not based on the movies, instead it's based on the theme park ride. Now just imagine if they made another Pirates of the Caribbean MMORPG but this time base it on the movies with many favourite characters including Captain Jack Sparrow himself, man that would be awesome. Probably never going to happen but it doesn't hurt to dream.
