Wow, I haven't played something with this much lag since the bazaar in EQ1 when I ran it on my pentium 2.  Considering the graphics in this game are REALLY dated and low-res, there is no reason my machine shouldn't be able to run it on max settings with no lag at all.  It is so jerky I get about 1 FPS when a few other players are on screen.  It's so laggy that ships and players will appear almost out of nowhere and combat at sea is near impossible.  Is this what happens when you try it on the free version, or do subscribers get the same aweful performance? Just for reference, here's my system:

AMD 64x2 4800+ Dual Core

3.0Gb DDR2

GeForce 7950 512Mb DDR4

250Gb SATA 7200RPM HD

I get zero lag issues and I'm playing from Europe.

Are you using Vista by any chance? I play several online games and a very common denominator with people having those kinds of issues in all of them are people using Vista.

Newer drivers seem to be fixing things gradually.

No, I'm using XP Media Center.  Not sure what the issue could be.  I think my drivers are pretty up-to-date, though I could check that to be sure.  I just couldn't believe that I can run EQ2 on high settings smoothly and PotC lags me out horribly...

I was having tons of lag on my system.  I started playing with the video setting and found that there was memory conservation option and it was set to vigourous or something.  I switched to default and bingo. No More LAG!!

You might want to try this.  Maybe it will help.

i would say their system requirement  info isn't correct.  i got tons of lags also but i minimized it and started to play in Window mode .. it works .. less laggs,, in my opinion this is not right... but this is the system req, maybe it should be higher then it says ...

It has sharper graphics and somewhat less lag in window mode. I think I enjoy it more that way, but I dont have a choice since my 7 day full screen trial is up.

I agree during my trial I had very bad lag . Odd thing is I have a great new computer. Also graphics bad as well.

The lag is unbearable

If not for that this game would be insanely addictive

But with horrible lag it's simply frustrating

they did some upgrades since last week and the lag is down significantly so that our playstyle has changed a bit - its got a much better feel and lag is only noticable occasionally - if you wait it out after about 5 min it calms down and is unnoticable once more. 

aside from lowering the resolution and changing the memory conservation, i would also recommend turning off the music and sound effects.

also, i've noticed the lag varies depending on the individual account too. i had one friend who had horrible lag, while the lag i experienced was quite minimal.

so we tested this theory: on his computer, he logged onto the game and was lagging like i'd never seen before, then i logged onto my account and didnt experience almost any lag at all.

we then tested it again using my computer, i logged on, and yet again just some minor lag here and there, he logged on and was lagging so hard he could barely move.

my friend finally called up the tech support, after several conversations with the dev's he finally got them to admit that there was an issue on his own individual account, but they couldn't specify what the issue was and they did not know how to fix it.

the devs don't really spend that much time fixing issues anyways. when they do updates it usually doesnt make the game better but actually makes it almost worse. regardless, im convinced the devs are mentally handicap. bless you disney for being an equal opportunity employer
