This is another example of how the companys are scamming us with the conversion $ -> €

From the american page

http://www.plaync.com/us/support/doc_3933.html?prod=305

1 month - $4.99*
3 months - $14.97* (the equivalent of $4.99 per month)
6 months - $29.94* (the equivalent of $4.99 per month)
12 months - $59.88* (the equivalent of $4.99 per month)

From the suscription page with an european account (spanish in my case)

Plan de tarjeta de crédito

1 mes - €4.99

Calculating it by myself

1 USD = 0.64 EUR

4.99$ = 3.20 EUR

I dont think it is a scam, they are just asking for you to pay on euros. And telling you what will you exactly pay.

I consider it's a scam because 1 Euro is not 1 Dolar

Even if they are setting different prices on each region, because i can't pay in dolars (well, maybe if i change my country in my account settings or something)

For example, imagine that in UK you must pay 4.99 pounds. It would be hilarious.

"It is a mistake to bow to the wishes of munchkins who whine." - E. Gary Gygax

It's a rip off, simple as that. But Dungeon Runners is certainly not the only company that makes subscription prices like this.

Especially now the dollar is so crappy. One dollar is 0.64 euro. I've seen this done in lot's of mmo's.

Yea right.........

Either you're trolling or you're just stupid enough to not play a game you enjoy because you have to pay 1.20 euro more than people in another country.

You know what... you take that 1.20 euro and you go buy yourself a soda, that is... if the soda doesn't happen to be cheaper in another country. In such a case you cannot even begin to consider buying said soda, since the soda company obviously is trying to rip you off!!!!!!!!!!

They are not trying to scam you. Those numbers would have been accurate a year ago. If you want to accuse them of anything it would be for not changing their rates to match current currency trends.

I have never heard of a game with monthly charges fluctuating their prices based on the currency market. You are basically complaining about something that is a bit unreasonable. Their business model probably requires the same euros so the only alternative would be to increase the cost in dollars, which would not be a prudent business tactic considering those paying dollars have less money to spend on non-essential items. So they are kind of stuck and it is easier to just leave their prices at what they have been.

makes me think of Eve Online

sub is 15$ or 15€ a month. ripoff for Europeans you might say.
But if you buy game 30days time card online, you'll actually pay (with PayPal) in dollars, and with the conversion you end up paying less than 10€ / month.

Anyways, lazy Europeans who don't bother spending 5min to buy a GTC will still use the standard subscription ^^

Unfortunately, there is no GTC in Dungeon Runners. But i am going to check if the price difference is due to certain tax set for foreign products.

PS: I don't know if that tax is applicable in software distributed by Internet

This question came up on the official boards.  Stephen's (Lead Developer and Producer) answer was:

Each territory can set their own price. I believe the EU players pay a bit more than US folks.

My answer was:

Ripper_McGee
Karl's "bad cavern" spelunker

That does seem a little odd and I don't know if it's deliberate or mistake. That being said, it doesn't bother me, too much, personally. The game costs 5 "bills"/month in the US and 5 "bills"/month in Europe. Everybody is--conceptually--paying the same, regardless of the conversion value or strength of their local currency. From that perspective, it seems fair.

FYI, this isn't exclusive to DR and NCSoft. Blizzard does the same for monthly WoW subscriptions:

$14.99/month
12.99€/month ($18.98 at today's exchange rate)
£8.99/month ($17.64 at today's exchange rate)

Simply put, you're not being ripped off.  You're being charged an appropriate rate for your region.

Except by the fact that the usual purchasing power in Spain is lower than in many countries in Europe. But anyway that doesn't matter. Every company is f*cking us with the conversion dolar - euro. It's useless to complain....
