To be clear on the subject,

1: Does joining a faction give you unique mission sets or paths, or may all missions be accessed by all factions?

2: Does the race you play lock you in one faction or may you freely choose when you start playing or later?

3: May factions hold territory (systems/gates)?

4: May factions fight eachother (not AI beasties!) for this territory?

5: Do factions posses Stargate addresses that other factions can not?

6: Does each faction posses its own unique weapon and armour set?

7: If the answer to 6 is yes, is it locked to that faction or may other factions use it partialy or fully?

8: Does each faction have unique skills or ability, or are all skills/abilities open to all factions/races?

9: Is there a ranking structure within factions, if so how will it work for each faction?

10: How will the skill system work? Do you have skill boxes that you fill up and gain by gain XP (SWG), or is it a time training system (EVE), or a system where you must repeat the action to learn it (Roma), or is it a level system earned by XP (Please noooooooooo!)?

11: If I'm a bad Goa'uld will you send Samantha Carter to spank my bottom (in real life)?

OK I will answer what I can from what the devs have told us.

1: There are two major factions, SGU and Praxis. Both sides will follow the main story but from different points of view so that sounds like different missions for each side that involve the same progressing events.

2: When you choose your race/class you also choose your alliance at the same time which they have stated they do not plan to have a betrayal system at launch(if ever). Asgard are always SGU and Goa'uld are always Praxis, Jaffa and Humans can choose their faction.

3: Not at launch

4: Not at launch

5: Not Known at this time

6: Archetypes determine what weapons and gear are available not faction. There will be gear sets for humans, gears sets for Jaffa, gear for Asgard, and gear for Goa'uld. There will also be things that can be used by more then one archetype. So a mix I guess.

7: See 6.

8: Archetypes have skill sets, some skills are shared with other archetypes, some are exclusive to that archetype. Again, a mixed answer.

9: Dunno what your asking?

10: Don't know all the details, but believe some may be automatic to learn and others will be purchased at level ups. I could be completely wrong but thats my interpitation of whats been said.

11: We all have our dreams =)

Hope I helped.

Thanks for answering, with question 9 I was asking if say for example you are a human member of SGU are ranks such as private-colonel given out for attaining certain landmarks? What if any extras would it grant a player?

Your answers have cleared alot of things up for me, certainly about factions. Although I did hear a DEV talking about the factions fighting over planets with Anaquada (spelling?) mines, however he wasn't clear if it was PVE or a combination of PVE and PVP.

I'll be giving this game a try since A: it's sci-fi, B: You have potential for large faction wars, C: large scale planets (6X6km I heard one DEV say for open area planets), D: Everything else sux, E: I want to see if Carter is as hot in game as she is on the TV show!

Ahh got ya, not sure yet, they haven't really detailed how people will get military ranks. They have talked about having a static team that when in the same group provide benefits to the group.

They will be introducing battleground type scenerios, maybe thats what the dev was talking about. We won't be mining for naquada, Crafting components will come from loot drops or vendors, no node harvesting.

I pretty much agree with A-D and on E theres no way the pixelation will measure up=)

Probably the most important thing to know about factions in SGW is that the devs didn't even understand what factions were until recently (yes I know that's almost unbelievable, but it's true. Until a few months back they thought when the community was talking about factions we were talking about NPCs)., and they've made decisions that render the faction vs faction elements in the game completely meaningless. It leaves one to wonder why they even bothered with creating two different sides at all really.
