Well the much anticipated 2010 retrospective has been posted. Interresting things are happening. Looks like the the project is finally going to be picking up some steam. The game may actually release sooner than most thought.

Are they not saying basically, "we're kinda shelving the game to get the engine into a higher grade saleable condition. But this will be a good thing for you because it means there will be games made with our engine"?

Indeed, they are pushing the game to the back burner for a while. The plan always has been to get the engine ready for comercialization before finishing the game. As far as I know, Flavien has already had a couple of offers for the engine, but was unable to liscence becuase it lacked developement tools and documentation.

With a company being created, more developers being hired, and the engine being sold to bring in more money, it can only mean that (even with the delay) Infinity will release much sooner than it would have if it had stayed a one-man project.

Some people seem to think that Infinity is a game that is taking way to long to release. Really, the engine has been in developement for a long time, but the game itself has only been in developement for a year at most. That is my own guess, don't take that as anything official. A lot are upset with this news, Flavien made a mistake saying that the game could be in an alpha/beta state by 2011. I'm sure when he said it, that was true, but it would have been a very sub-par game. Unfinished and bug-ridden, it would have sufferd the same fate as MO is suffering, limp along until eventual shutdown (assuming that MO will eventually).

This is nothing but good news, for the game, and for those who wish to play around with the engine.
