Warhammer Cities Interview(6:34)

In the interview Jeff discusses the cities system in the game, from what players can expect to the decision that saw four of the six capital cities removed from the list of launch features.

Mythic sure is pulling out all the stops... they won't topply WoW initially, but they're sure sharpening their shank that they will inflict a nasty hemhorraging wound to their subscriber base, killing WoW over time. afoaa writes: Game looks better and better. Animations are still a bit primitive with separate upper and lower body moves, but that might not be such a bad thing, since it allows for movement and melee at the same time. Something Lotro and AoC failed to make possible but is one of the reasons why DaoC works so well in PvP. Tue Aug 05 2008 12:50PM
Cryptor writes: I thought Jeff did a much better job then most with doing the interview. IMHO two capital cities add focus to the RvR that otherwise was spreading the payers too thin. Makes much more sense this way. GJ Mythic. ( Game in the back looks fantastic ). Tue Aug 05 2008 1:08PM
gatheris writes: just more damage control - - - so this consolidationn is such a wonderful thing there is no need to add those missing cities later, correct? Tue Aug 05 2008 1:33PM
jerlot65 writes: gatheris I know you are trying to make the point that if thy are adding them later they are important enough now to have included them. However, 2 things. 1. Jeff H already stated that they might never bring those cities back since its working out well. IF they do bring them back then it will be a free patch. 2. Almost every MMO released has had their "end game content" not fully implemented. When the game starts expect the first city to fall MAYBE months later. Which consequently is just 1 or so months away from their first scheduled major patch. Tue Aug 05 2008 1:44PM
Size-Twelve writes: What's up with the instance copies though? Cities turn into a 48x48 man capped area instance? This is the first I've heard of that. I wish John would have pushed harder on that one. Tue Aug 05 2008 3:11PM
Neelas writes: solareus: I dont think its his primary task to do that. Search for Paul Barnett and you´ll be entertained! I promise. :P Tue Aug 05 2008 3:46PM
TheHavok writes: Another great interview from Jon. It always good to see that people do not shy away from the tough questions. Jeff Skalski dove right in and presented the aspects of capital cities very well. Yeah, it is disappointing that they took out four of the six cities, but I bet that people will be having so much fun to even notice. Tue Aug 05 2008 3:59PM
ZalKin writes: This is a great game, but i don't know how all of you can be so chilled with these cuts? they are a huge cock punsh on the game, now yes the game may and i belive even be much better thanks to them but we should still be pissed and disappointed. I (and many more) was waiting EVERY month for any new info on the Choppa and now they're gone. I don't even know if they are going to be in the game. And how are the orc gonna funktion with out a dmg dealer or how are the empire gonna funktion with out a tank?! these are all questions we should worry about. Tue Aug 05 2008 4:21PM
phc_doc writes: Didn't hear much new in the interview. Game looks awesome though. I found it funny that he kept referring to everything as "great and epic" instead of just letting his explanations stand on their own. Tue Aug 05 2008 4:27PM
vesavius writes: How the fk can this game be looking 'better and better' when it is being stripped down right in front of your eyes? One point, if putting 6 cities in was SO impossible then they NEVER should have offered them up. I am sick of the early amatuer night hype machines that go with modern MMORPGs. GUYS, it is ALWAYS better to under promise and over deliver... Jeez.. did you never watch Star Strek? One question though? Will the box/ sub price be dropped now the game has been cut by 2/3? Tue Aug 05 2008 5:06PM
Plaidpants writes: "Will the box/ sub price be dropped now the game has been cut by 2/3?" Probably the dumbest question/comment I've ever read. Tue Aug 05 2008 5:12PM
Manchine writes: I would rather have them drop some content. To get Most of it right. Otherwise you end up with something like AoC! Tue Aug 05 2008 5:20PM
Rhoklaw writes: Ok, let me just say that since I've been in beta over a week ago, that I haven't even visited the first city. In fact, I'm still working in Tier 2. There is oodles of content for each race, so yes, there is in fact 6 realm areas, but only 2 cities. Please don't let the 4 city cuts make you think each race doesnt have their own lands. Tue Aug 05 2008 5:49PM
Syxx007 writes: Wow, some of you should pay attention and actually read about things before you open your stupidity hole. Each faction lost ONE dps and ONE tank. That means you still have 2 tanks and 2 melee dps PER side and still have 20 friggin classes. I'm sorry that your favorite class got cut. Deal with it. Would you rather have your class be the weak link that no one wants to group with and can't hold their own in RVR? You can travel between zones in the first Tier, so if you really really need a melee dps around, just get someone to come over, jeez. As for the cities...For the love of fk ppl, do your brains even work? Do you think in a game that's just starting out that you can defend or attack 3 cities? It's a tactical move as much as anything. All of the players now have a common focus for their attention. They've added more than you've lost so buy a Kleenex and QQ about something relevant. Tue Aug 05 2008 6:30PM
Cjack123 writes: ZalKin what you are saying is just plain stupid... you don't only quest amongst yourselves...you can have other damage dealers from other races on your side to help you out...you can have a chaos damage dealer, orc tank, dark elf healer and a goblin Rdps.....you don't only have to play with orcs and gobs if you are a greenskin....so saying "what are the orcs going to do with out the choppa, they won't have any DPS, is just dumb...but if you are going from a point of lore and by the look of your spelling then i see what you did there...ha..ha Tue Aug 05 2008 7:00PM

solareus writes: A theroy : Mythic has seen how Turbine is laying out LotRO content wise from now till 2012. So to try and preserve that massive span in time they will release the cities and other content in xpacs and free updates as the game grows popularity. Some asked why I don;t like the reps , it is simply because some of them sound "fake" and not genuine. When you listen to someone like Jeff Steffel or Peter molyneux it feels genuine and you feel like you can really say "yes , I believe and understand wht your saying" I just not gotten that once from Mythic team except for the guy in the g4tv interview from E308. The guy on the g4tv interview should be the only one talking about the game, he was genuine and he had the dialog to carry the interview. Tue Aug 05 2008 7:33PM

Eluwien writes: I dont know what the dudes mean with the word "massive", but their single capital is definetly not that. "Scale our tech when there is many people on te screen". Whoa, still some scaling to do. Dont expect heavens, heed my words. Tue Aug 05 2008 11:35PM
grimfall writes: I really loved the strategic element you could see with the wizard playing on the screen behind them. He would approach a monster and throw a fireball, then the monster would run up to him and start swinging, and he would throw more fireballs until it was dead. 40 levels of that? Let me at it! Xenosaiyan writes: They're instancing?! Dang, and I was hoping to have 1500 vs. 1500, and the cities; in Final fantasy XI it was economics, social, and look for group. in Warhammer it's RvR, Economics, quests, social, groups, etc. the one reason I quit age of conan was there was no big city, can't say that for Warhammer!!! W00t! I'd say this game is gonna be a hit. Wed Aug 06 2008 3:16AM
leumasx7 writes: its not going to suck. go back to wow you bliz luvers. and if your comp is upgraded to todays tech. you have no probably with tons of people on the screen. Wed Aug 06 2008 7:20AM
Obsidanse writes: No, I'm sure it won't suck. It looks pretty good actually. You can't castrate loyal WoW players for being scepticle though. What Online games have there been of this genre that were even slightly accessable to anyone but hard-core players? WoW has owned the market for a long time now, and rightly so. Maybe this will be good enough :) This does look a little like LotR Online though...we'll see... Wed Aug 06 2008 9:31AM
Syxx007 writes: I'm sure they'll add the other cities again once we can actually handle the ONE that we do have. They didn't cut and say we have we have we have. They cut and said we ADDED we ADDED we ADDED. Huge difference. As for the massive city. yeah dude, it's huge and guess what? It grows with levels, so that the final city is insane. You're up in arms about "scaling tech" when you probably have no clue what it even means. It's the same reason that they have to instance the city battles. Your pc can't handle it. You can't have 1500 vs. 1500 running around a screen and expect any kind of performance especially in an open world environment. Try to maintain a bit of realism. And lastly the mage, what game have you played that at low level you do anything more than use one ability? WoW? Mage = fireball, fireball, fireball, loot. 2 levels of that then you can fireball, FROSTBOLT!, frostbolt, loot. YEAH!! I mean, I guess you COULD practice your running away abilities while the frostbolt has them slowed, but I'm not sure that I'd call that strategy. Wed Aug 06 2008 1:28PM

MephistoXV writes: Regardless, no game (MMO or otherwise) could ever be worse as worse as AoC was at launch ever. Warhammer may not be the salvation of a series, it may not be a WoW killer, hell, it may not even be a great f'in' game. But neither is WoW; you ask me, WoW is nullified the genre, nearly suicidal, and is boring as hell now. Which is why I can't wait for Warhammer. Because it's something different. Shame about the instanced battle but it keeps the framerate down, keeps people from being ganked and pretty much lets the opposing force have a chance to 'win': you attack a city that has the -whole- of Order just sitting around (think Ironforge pre-Auction House Patch) and you only have a dinky little raid compared to that.. Also makes it a better transition to appearances. Altdorf sunny to Altdorf on fire. >:D Wed Aug 06 2008 6:02PM
