I'm fairly certain they're going to be using the career system, albiet a modified version of the career system.

I hope not too modified.  The career system as is, is a good one because you can change careers if you get bored of your current one.  Then you dont have to have 6 different types of fighter combinations you are trying out to see which one works best.  You can just change your current career path and go a different direction with your character it just costs experience points and money, how much, depending on how drastic the change is.

My starting class would have to be the Bounty-Hunter because then I could do a career exit to a Assassin and then exit again to a Witch-Hunter after getting the assassin part developed fairly well.

The carrer system is a pretty good system.

I hope they will add more carrer and diversify it...and add depth to them.

However, let's face it, the carrer system mean that a long term player doesn't need to group and solo extremely well, which I am all for, but is Mythic for such a system?

I think it would be good for once to have  a system where the noobs need to group because they are to weak to solo and the experienced players solo...

Solo would become a reward.    But I am not Mythic and I don't make such a decision.  I know for sure SoE would rather died than do such a system.  It would be agaisnt their very soul I guess. :P  But Mythic, maybe, it would definitely be nice to see a system that doesn't trash soloers and actually encourage it, yet not at the expense of grouping.  Solo missions could even have the GREAT rewards but if you are not solo fail it automatically, alarm or whatever that make a lot of folks come and make a group fails...anyway, just an idea.  (By great I don't means better, I mean the best solo reward, something a soloer would never even consider to improve as far as solo is concerned  (well the last reward of the line I mean, the progression to it should be logical and progressive with easier mish and rewards)).

I don't think they'll use anything that makes the game lean towards solo play.  It wouldn't be in the spirit of Mythic, and it definitely wouldn't be in the spirit of Warhammer.  Warhammer is all about tactics and wars, which will be right up Mythic's ally.

I think they'll probably have roles that people play in pvp combat (hopefully RvR) like squad commander and such, so that people actually involve tactics into the game.

I think there should be a nice balance between solo and party play.  Warhammer the miniature game is all about tactics and strategy but the RPG contains ways to be a solo player if you want.  Certain character careers almost demand you be solo most of the time.  Assassins and Necromancers come to mind.  I think that it would be beneficial to everyone if Mythic incorporates the careers system so that certain careers work better as solo while others are best in groups.  That way everyone is happy.  I play solo most of the time because i cant play for hours on end and that makes others angry when i have to sign off in the middle of a quest or something and they are counting on me for help.  i certainly hope Mythic is as faithful to the RPG version of Warhammer as is possible for a MMORPG because the way it is works out well for everyone.  Complete with insanity points and Chaos mutations that are virtually permanent.

I agree, I hope they keep all of the possible careers but I know some will get axed to save money and learning curve.

I hope they keep the career system intact mostly.  Where you choose from 1 of 4 character types:  Academic, Warrior, Rogue, and Ranger.  These will determine what attributes are important to you.  Once you have chosen how your attributes are alloted, you will be given a list of starting careers you can enter based on what your attributes are and what character type you chose.  Once you choose a starting career you have several advanced careers you can work towards for that starting career.

The cool thing about this, is the fact that if you decide, once you get to your advanced career and you decide you dont like it and no other career exits for your field look good, you can start over in a new field entirely.  The downfall to this is it costs alot of experience points and you have to meet the attribute requrements and if you are purchasing attributes that are not a part of your current career scheme then you pay alot more for them.  (Experience Points in this game are used like currency to buy the attribute upgrades and skills you need to meet the requirements of the career you are working towards)  Also what makes this difficult is the fact that even if you were a high level warrior going into a wizards apprentice starting career, you have to use the wizards apprentice skills, attributes, equipment, and attacks to gain any experience in that field.

For instance:  If you are fighting and decide spells arent cutting it and whip out your sword and kill a monster, because thats what you are good with due to your previous career, then you get little or no experience for the kill because you didn't really use any wizard skills to accomplish the task.  And yes you do keep all your attributes and skills from your previous careers.  You dont get experience as a warrior either because your in a different field now and no longer earning exp for that.  So even if you were extreamly tough before you may find it difficult in another career due to having to use different attributes.  You would still be much more powerful than someone just starting out as a wizards apprentice, of course, because you would have higher general attributes than a beginning person.   I am pretty sure you do lose some attribute points though, if you for example went from warrior to wizard such as toughness and weapon skill etc. because you are going from being very physical to being an academic type.  But I cant remember if that is true or not but it makes sense to me.  Maybe you people know the answer to that.

No, in Warharmmer you didn't lose stats.

If you have 10 endurance as a warrior, you will still have 10 endurance as whatever else you work on.  However, it is highly unlikely that it will ever improve again assuming you already get the +4 or at least a +3.  Only a few warriors carreer give the +4.

Once you buy some stats, you can only improve them after finding a path that allow you to buy a bigger bonus.

Some epiclike quest may grant you a stacking permanent bonus, but those never decreases.

Warhammer was definitely hard on low level soloers, but a high level soloer was definitely very friendly.  Like I said, I have no idea if Mythic will respect that.  Warhammer background is not even half as developped as D&D and Turbines was not afraid to betray many major aspects of D&D, including the soloing and the GBT!

Hard to say which route mythic will go. But it personally hope they go the PnP class advancement route. Its something different from the norm we see in most MMO's.. And its fricken Warhammer! It will also be intreasting to see how they handle magic. Magic is not a friendly force that everyone throws around like it is in other worlds.. The old developer of Warhammer online stuck pretty close to its roots. I hope Mythic takes that same path, and doesnt just make DaoC 2 in the warhammer world. ( even though i love DaoC)

LOL.  Warhammer is the first solo friendly I ever meet.  You obviously didnt learn the same products I did.  Most Warhammer product focus on solo, duo, trio or a group.  Pawns at your disposal doesn't request a player to play them ever.   Game Workshop products never require more than maybe 6 players as far as I can tell, now maybe there have been a few exceptions.

Clear throat...8 person I mean...yeah 8...Blood for the Blood God!  (I dunno how I can fit 2 more players, maybe they can play dead while 6 persons play those boardgames niak niak niak).

Mark Jacobs recently gave us a bit of info out on this during a chat in the Warhammer Alliance IRC channel.

Here's how it went down: (MBJ is mark jacobs)

Mista_IBN: Have you guys tackled classes yet?
Garthilk: Careers!
MBJ: Mista, oh yeah, heavy duty work done on careers
Xaria: Is game going to be career based or level based? I know at one point you had posted something about looking into the career based deal
MBJ: Xaria, all I'll say that that I really liked the career system in WHFRP :) However, keep in mind that we don't want to clone that system for two reasons:
1) It would be impossible to make all the careers fun
2) It would take at least 3 times the alloted development time to get them right for all the races in the game.

If you want to read the whole chat log of the convo we had with Mark, head over to the Warhammer Alliance and check it out. Mark also frequently posts on the forums there and he might just answer some of your burning questions.

Thanks for the info.

(If anyone didn't understand my rambling between 6 and 8...6 is the favoured number of Slaanesh while 8 is the favoured number of Khorne, both mortal enemies inside Chaos(units will always try to be of that number or a multiple of that number and will not be of their enemy number, so a Khorne unit who have 2 casualties will kill 1 of their own rather than remaining 6(not in the middle of the fight, they need to have the time to understand they are 6))...it was meant as an initial tease toward the 6-person group standard and associating it with Slaanesh  LOL...but eventually, Warhammer adopt the Hexagon system and copyright it, which is pretty much ironic IMO).

Man alot of people need to stop talking about this game.  Ya'all are scaring me right outta it.  When I heard that they were going to try to make warhammer online again I was totally for it.  Then I hear that mythics creating it and I'm like oh god no.  But I also know how games workshop is about their stuff since I used to talk with my game supplier everyday about crap like that so there is hope that it won't be like DAOC.  Also from almost every post that I've read it sounds like everyones gonna be chaos.  Now chaos is cool and all but I really hope mythic puts in some kind of population cap so we don't end up with another albion where you can't fart sideways without hitting a chaos member.

Now I got a concern about some of the topics in this thread like, what is the obsession with solo'n?  I mean bloody hell, this is a mmo.  MMO.  That means massive multiplayer online.  Mythics entire goal in daoc was group activity.  Thats why you had the group display, ability to flag LFG, each class having theyre advantages and disadvantages.  That what the ML's were for.  Arty raids.  Darkness rising and that CO5 crap.  Why pay 15 or so dollars a month on a MMO if you're going to solo.  Get a game like D&D or dungeon seige and solo that and save some money.  Towards the end of my time on DAOC all I did for the last 3 weeks was solo and it drove me nuts.  Kill monster, rest, kill monster, rest, kill monster.....

The way my friends and I have always played warhammer (and we're fanatics about it since it's our longest lasting rpg) is that you needed eachother cause someone else might figure out something you didn't.  Even with the boardgames we would set up multi-army battle's.  We may have the empire/dwarves/wood elves verses chaos/skaven/orcs or my favorite in 40k was the blood angels/dark angels/empire vs. chaos/necrons/dark eldar for a massive 34000 point battle.

Oh by the way I don't know how many of you have seen the new rpg rule book but they change the whole character creation deal....

And yes they will have pally's in this game which if they go by the rpg career setup you would be able to get in the later advanced careers.  Witch hunters go along the same lines.

Also I don't think I've seen mention in this thread but I seriously doubt this will be a foo-foo caerbear game.  I can't remember the poster's name that keeps stating that but I see it every where and I'm really curious where he got that idea from with some of the other games.  I can understand that people like to rvr, I do too, but rvr'n is pointless without pve cause then you can get your uber gear.  Im guessing he came from eve or shadowbane where he camped lowbie spots on a regular basis simply to mug them, mock them, and rip them off which is typical poor sportsmanship.

Aaaaanyways I've lost track of what I was originaly talking about, it's been a long day at work.  Yeah I hope that they have some good careers and I definitly hope that they have a similiar skill table too.  I really want my dual weilding character in this game.

Chaos Undivided fantasy - 4300 point army and undefeated

Dwarves fantasay - 2100 point army

Orcs and goblins fantasy - 3275 point army

Blood angels 40k - 5700 point army

Tau 40k - 1200 point army

Well first of all, if all you did was solo for the last 3 weeks you did it for one of two reasons, 1) you were unwilling to join a group, or 2) you were unable to join a group.  If you were unable to, that's a problem with either population, or gameplay that is unavoidable.  But if you were unwilling to join a group, that's your own fault and you have no reason to gripe.

Second, Solo play should ALWAYS be capable, as well as optional.  Make it easy to join a group, as easy as you can, I love the grouping system of CoH where your name pops up on a search screen where you can be invited from across the server to join.  But at the same time, forcing people to join a group Stinks!!!  If I only have half an hour to play one day, but I really want to play, I don't want to log on, and stand around for 25 minutes while the group leader tries to get a group together, and get to actually do some stupid quest for 5 minutes then have to log out when I barely got to go into the dungeon or whatever.  Let me be able to go out and kill a could of little monsters and log off.  Hell, I don't have to have a group of hunters with me to go out in real life and deer hunt why should I have to get a group together to go out and do something similar in a RPG?  Because there are monsters?  If that's the world you live in you learn to fight them, you don't live with 85 people to ensure your safty.  African hunters go out alone and kill lions and such all the time, Eskimo's are faced with Polar Bears (one of the most ferocious animals on the planet I might add.)  And although they may live in a community, they hunt alone.  Hell, I personally know some cajuns that hunt in the depths of the Crocodile infested swamps, and they don't go out in large groups, they go at the most with one friend!!!  Crocodiles can get up to 15 feet or better.  And you're telling me I have to go out with a group of 10 people just to kill a stupid random animal in an MMO?  you're insane.  Maybe to hunt something as large as a Dragon, or a Giant, perhaps.  But don't Force me to join a group.

By the way, MMO stands for massive multiplayer online, I don't see the words "Group" anywhere in that.  It simply means there are more people playing that game than just you and you have the option of interracting with them.  Just because my X-box or Playstation 2 has a second controller and the games I play allow two players don't mean I only play it when someone else is there to play with me!!!

That's inside the box style of thinking about a game, and it's not the way MOST people like to play.  Not saying that many don't enjoy grouping, I love grouping.  But I don't wan to be forced to group.  Make it where you must group to face certain quests, or creatures.  But don't force me to group just so I can go out and kill a goblin.  After all we should all be capable of being heroes in this game, not just a random citizen.  Where's the fun in being one of the most powerful random citizens in the Empire?

I can hear the stories now;...

Bob, the greatist random citizen of the Empire.  He sat alone in the town hall for hours waiting for someone to finally say they were looking for a crossbowman.  He volunteered and found out they were facing Blikroth the local beastman.  (this should be fun) he thought as he and his band of 20 men set out on their quest.  They were only a few minutes into their journey when they bumped into a gobliin.  They all set up, and as the wizard cast his sleep spell, they all rushed in save the archers and ranged artists.  Bob was able to shoot his bolt directly into the goblins eye, and since the other eye had been put out by Jim the Paladin, the goblin was blind.  Yet he still struck down Dan the Warrior and Tim the Spearman.  This was one of the least of their problems, but they finally brought him down.  As they awaited Dan and Tim's return from the healer's hut.  They heard in the distance a Troll.  "That's too large a monster for us." Said Jim the leader.  So Bob and his friends ran toward town, hoping to catch Tim and Dan.  As they met up, they quickly found the trail of the horrible beastman, as they set out again, they happened upon him resting peacfully under an oak tree.  The archers and ranged artists fired their many weapons, and Jim the Paladin led the mighty charge.  The Beastman raged and sliced down three or four of the band of 20, but finally on the last leg of many of the members of the hunting party Jim took a final thrust through the beastman's heart.  The 105th blade to penetrate the heart must have been all the beastman could take.  He finally fell to the feet of the remaining 14 men.  (two logged out just after the battle ensued due to something called "Mom saying dinner was ready")  And as the beast slowly deteriorated, Bob felt proud to have been a member of this great hunting party.  They had slain a goblin and a Beastman.  And although they ran from the troll, it was a job that took just slightly over 2 hours and 30 minutes.  And Bob felt fear in his heart for if he ever had to face an Orc he knew he was in trouble, because a goblin was only half the size and strength.  And Sigmar forbid any of them ever have to face a Minotaur, they were 5 times bigger than the Beastman, twice as strong as the Troll, and three times as bloodthirsty!!.

I don't know exactly how much Mythic will implement the career system, but I can't see them having Rogue and Ranger as 2 separate Archtypes. My guess is you'll see Academic, Warrior, Assassin (or something representing rogue/ranger), Priest (Yup. I think a support class will have to be added here somewhere for the sake of mmorpg game mechanics.)

Not flaming, but the "Priest" character may not be a priest.  It's more likely to be a Wizard.  Magic is very prominate in the Warhammer world.  And even the Priests have magical ability.  Although I have no idea what Academic is, perhaps that is what you're using for a wizard term, though I would think it was more of an Engineer or something.    I agree that their will have to be some type of Ranger/Assassin class.  Then a standard Warrior.

Solo is good for people who work 40+ hours a week because most times we only have an hour or two to join and play and cant take the time to join a large group who wants to play for 4, 5, or 6 hours and if you have to leave then they all get killed because they were counting on you to stay as long as they wanted to play.  This provides a way for people with jobs to choose a character class that does well as solo  to keep up with the more group friendly career types.  I hate MMORPG's that require you to join a group to get anywhere in the game.  I think grouping should be big part of the game but there should be classes that excell as soloists.  (Necromancers, Assassins, Highwaymen, Etc.)  I had to leave DAoC because I got to a point where I was required to group so that i could advance at a decent rate but its hard to make friends under those circumstances.  I was given the optin of endless grinding to get to the next level or finding a group that would tolerate me.  I chose to quit playing.

As for the reason i play the MMORPGs rather than the offline games is the PVP and the grouping when I am able.
