This new patch is chaotic. There is merely info and almost nobody knows what to do in the new rvr system, players run like headless chickens everywhere. They give us skavens just as a monster play, this is bad but worse is the fact that you can only play them after your faction (thats it the +65rr players) won the day in the new dungeon. I really want to be wrong but I spent some hours playing today and couldn´t create a skaven for myself because my realm didn´t have the warpstone resources from the dungeon. If this is correct it would be the last nail in the coffin for many war players. Wish to hear from you. P.S I dont like the naked keeps. Its a dps melee class fiesta. |

ROFLMAO! Really. After reading the 1.4.0 patch notes I almost started to believe that they finally might turn the game around a little and manage to bounch back a bit. Then I read this. And I am not even suprised. these devs are really totally clueless. They just keep failing and failing... and fail some more. lol. |

Skaven = when you are RR65+, when you win the new scenario, when you have the resources, and if one of the 12? slots for skaven on your *realm* is open, then you get a chance of taking a Skaven out to siege the keep until either you die or zone out.
They're really just siege engines basically, except you can't break any walls here.

Originally posted by Mesfenlir Doesn't really sound like fail to me. It's like a kind of achievement. Basically you have to achieve some stuff before being able to play as a Skaven. And then pass on the oportunity to someone else after a certain amount of time. They basically don't hand them out on a platter! When you see a Skaven you know that person had to do something for it. Sounds cool in my book. |

At least in LOTRO I can play as a monster whenever I want and with almost all classes available. We should play as skavens in every siege as much as we want. Devs are so blind... my god. How they think this is going to bring fresh new players? Its insane. And the rr progression pack is only real boost for high rr players, not for players with 10 or 25 rr rank. Instead of making a equal boost for all players they chose again highrer rr ranks. The bombing run is funny the first time but soon gets boring. They promised: "Play as skaven" If you can..... |

Originally posted by Mesfenlir What I'm getting from your description is they basically wanted to reward the veterans, ie long time players. So if you look at it from that perspective those players might like it and the new players have something to strive for. Just an observation. |

Originally posted by Seffren I can agree to an extent except that I would argue that Mythic used the Skaven as a major "selling point" for this patch and new system thanks to EA's marketing machine. Reading it, it almost made me return because "Cool, I can play as a Skaven!". However, after reading this, I will officially be done with WAR and Mythic because I know firmly believe they are clueless and the EA takeover is complete. Sorry Mythic, I have been with you since the launch of DAOC but you got so caught up in the success that WAR COULD be you forgot your players and how to make games. From now on, WAR will live only in the nostalgia of what could have been and I will keep my memories of DAOC. Too bad....EA ruined a great company. Makes me really, really apprehensive of what EA will do to Bioware. EDIT: All Blizzard did was say you must have a level 50 or 60 player on any realm. A little bit different than the stipulations I am reading regarding the skaven. |

Originally posted by Pheace So if I am reading this right, only 12 players can play as a skaven at once? Not that it matters is that 6 per side or 12 per side? My question is: what are the other 3 people per side supposed to do? :) |

Originally posted by Mesfenlir Yeah but wouldn't new players have all the original races to try out first anyway. By the time they get bored with them they would be eligible for the Skaven race. But as I said in another answer above, if the pr campaign promised this race to all players from the get go, then I can see a lot of people being disappointed. |

Again... ->> You do NOT unlock a race! <<-- It's no different than going to wintergrasp and picking up a siege engine, except here There's no permanent Skaven anything you get to play. There's no progression. You win the scenario, you or anyone else who did picks up a Skaven(Max 12 at a time) and uses it to fight till they either die or leave the zone.
It's really no different than picking up a temporary Siege Engine in Wintergrasp or whatever in Wow, you just need a few more/different steps to be able to do it.
---------
And @ Above, I believe it's 12 per realm, but I admit I only saw one person mention that limit so I don't know 100% sure if that's correct but Mythic have stated countless times the number of Skaven is limited and twelve for a single keep to siege sounds about right.
--------
Basically if WoW had used ... Fairy skins on their siege engines instead of actual engines then it would have been exactly the same. New Playable Race - Fairies! 4 Different classes! (types of siege engines).

Originally posted by Seffren DKs were available for anyone who had a level 55 character... This is different here you have to be max level then jump through hoops where only 12 of these classes can be available at any given time!!! Thats a messed up limitation bro. its worse than Lotros Monsterplay because you have zero progression with the classes. No attachment what so ever to a new set of classes in game is good? |

Originally posted by Seffren No they did not. You just need a level60 char and you can play a DK. Not really an achievement. Especially not with the current fast pace of leveling in the first 60 levels. |

This is what happens when idiots don't actually pay attention to the patch/expansion notes and just jump to conclusions. Did you really expect Mythic, running WAR on a skeleton crew, to create an entirely new faction with 4-5 brand-new classes for you to simply create and level from 1 to 50 like everything else? Learn to read. If you'd actually took the 5 minutes to read the note's like most people, you wouldn't have needed to create this thread and thus wouldn't have been disappointed. And the new RvR system is NEW, compltely different, did you expect people to run around in complete synergy as if they've been playing this campaign for years? ''Waaah waaaah i can't play as Skaven unless i earn it waaaah i wan't everything handed to me on a silver platter''. Even if Skaven was a whole new faction, i guarantee you'd only sub for a month, log in, create one, play it for a while until the novelty wore off, log out, unsub then still come here and complain about what war 'could have been'. Face it. If you don't like what WAR is now you'll never like it, new race's or not. Yes it took it's time getting to what it is today, and yes it's all too late, but nothing else is going to change about it besides gimmicky carrots on a stick. It's an RvR game to the core, the only thing's that will give it longevity are changes to the RvR gameplay. To anyone who can see past gimmicky 'skaven' and other warhammer novelties, this is what really matters. Skaven was just a cool little bonus and an excuse for Mythic to charge a little $, which is hardly a bank-breaker and well deserved IMO. |

Originally posted by D_TOX Actually, after a bit of research here and on the WAR website, the patch notes are the only place I see the "play as a Skaven" detailed. Even in the 3 articles here that mention (2 specifically) there is nothing about the way that its done. I just find it funny, and a little odd that one of the big draws or seeling points of this expansion is the skaven but only in the patch notes is it explained how its limited. I think anyone could understand why players who MIGHT have returned for this patch would be disappointed to learn the exact details. Sorry I just prefer forthcoming information and hate the fine print; the "Oh yeah, by the way, did we mention...." crap. If this information was readily available (and by that I mean released to multiple new outlets or detailed in a specific article on Mythic's website and not buried at unique site A or on page 45 of thread 119) then I apologize. Its not an issue of a silver platter, its an issue of disclosing all vital information to your cutomer when you expect them to make a monetary transaction. |
