So, ok, they released the skaven as a playable species for both sides (order and chaos or whats it called)

but i also keep readin that they released a rvr pack that includes skaven and other goodies (here confusion sets in)

so the skaven is freely available to all to play or.... not? if they are available to play for all, than why are they advertised together with the rvr pack? isnt the rvr pack something you buy to get some fluff items such as pets and horses and stuff?

and if this wasnt enough, i keep hearing you can now buy ''character levels for cash'', and that you can increase your rvr rank from 80 to 100 ONLY if you pay for it with real life money? and you also get access to new armor sets etc this way....

So not buying the ''item mall'' items puts us at a disadventage?

Is this game even pay to play still? (monthly fee). :D

SORRY FOR THIS POST, usually i dont have much trouble understanding when the developers introduce a fluff item shop to their p2p games, or when they release a ''mini boost pack'' or when they release a real expansion.. OR when they go from p2p to a free to play system............

BUT lately i have no idea whats going on with this particular game...

Thanks for any explanations in advance.

You're best bet is to read the announcement - it's pretty well explained there:

http://www.warhammeronline.com/vermin/

In short, the Verminous Horde patch is free to current subscribers, and includes the playable Skaven, the new RvR mechanics, and the Skaven dungeon.

The Progression and Personality packs are the two RvR packs that are purchaseable ($10 each, or $15 dollars together), that include access to higher RR, new armor and weapon sets, increased leveling speed, vanity pets, new mounts, and new dyes.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

Thank you very much for the answer.

Also;

I heave indeed checked the link you provided and granted it does answer some of my questions.

But there is still something more going on here.

For example at the EA store also an item called the ''herald pet pack'' is available for purchase. The herald pet pack is different from the ones (VANITY pets) listed on the list and actually gives you a small (3% speed) boost.

Furthermore im not sure about the extra 20 RR ranks for sale,. Does that mean that everybody has normally access to a MAXimum of 80 RR, whereas ONLY the people who buy the rvr pack access to RR 100? (and does it mean that you have a clear adventage over others in RVR?)

And finally i had even heard that it is possible to buy levels DIRECTLY for your characters (not talking about renown rank but basic character level) and than apply them to your character(s) of choice,. Its no listed in the page linked here and i only know of it via rumors (on the forums)... is there any thruth to it? :D

Well i guess im one of the few people who likes WAR, but if cash shop really gives you in-game adventages /besides vanity stuff, than EVEN im a little worried.

Stop listening to the CRAP people are telling you. >.>

You can only get ONE extra level by buying the war tract which you can only get ONE time.

Getting the Progression pack extends your max RR level to 100 (still need to get the RR yourself), and the accompanying armor/weapon sets on RR90-100, plusit gives you an RR boost 1-80.  The personality pack is a fluff pack. And yes, regardless of how much people try to mitigate this obviously this will give an advantage more and more, especially once they start introcucing more RR80+ content.

The Skavens aren't really a 'playable race' so much as a siege buff. You win a scenario, and then your realm gets access to 'Skaven' first come first serve, only 12 people max per realm at a time I think. It's basically a buff that changes your character into one of the 4 Skaven siege class, it dissappears when you zone. It's mostly just for sieging the keep to move to the next zone.

Not only does the progression pack increse your cap, it also increases your rate of reknown gain before cap (something like 150% at level 40 and 300% at 80).  So yes, it's clearly adventageous to buy it, in a couple ways, and will make you better in RVR/per time played no matter what your level is.

It's the first time in MMORPG history (barring ftp ones) that a game ever charged to increase level cap/leveling speed.  Quite unprecedented.  The community in game and on the official boards don't seem to care too much, probably mostly because it's just 10 bucks.  Others seem confused and call it a "mini-expansion", even though the skaven content is sparse and barely even qualifies as a quarterly free content update, not to mention it's totally seperate from the progression pack.

Personally, I think it really sucks, but I'm addicted to the fun of the game and want to be uber ASAP, so I forked over the 10 bucks.

As for the free level thing, that's really just for people with too much money/not enough time that don't mind paying 20 bucks for 1 regular level that can be pretty easily obtained in an hour or two.  They don't get any advantage out of that that others won't get if they don't buy it though, besides saving that hour or two, so to me it's not as big of a deal.

I'd say the community does care but there is no other game out there, if Rift, GW2 or some other upcoming MMO has a decent open world PvP mechanic we'll likely see a loss in player numbers but for now we'll put up with the lying, cheating, money grabbing and generally contemptible ways of the EA machine.
