When I was a kid many decades ago now, back when kids were expected to play outside until dusk, my older brother and I would play this game where he would jump out of a tree on top of me, pin me to the ground and beat the shit out of me with a big stick, then take off running leaving me black, blue, bleeding and wondering how I could get him back for it. You know, the kind of games brothers like to play. Anyone else play that game when they were kids? Yeah, even that game was way better than FFXIV. |

Originally posted by VikingGamer hahah. We didnt have many toys in my neighborhood and had to work odd jobs to fix our bikes, so we played a similar game. I dont recall if it had a proper name, but could be called 'hitting each other with sticks until someone cried.' In fact, come to think of it, warhammer is quite like that too. Had a great time this weekend where we basically kept assaulting a keep, despite it being ranked up and well defended, but didn't feel like going anywhere else. I think we actually wont by attrition*, we never had the numbers. *i.e. 'man that's the 5th oil they've destroyed that I paid for, *cries* f this' "Never met a pack of humans that were any different. Look at the idiots that get elected every couple of years. You really consider those guys more mature than us? The only difference between us and them is, when they gank some noobs and take their stuff, the noobs actually die." - Madimorga |

Did the high elves ever get their capital city for RvR? (I was pretty upset about that few years ago) I used to roll High Elves: Sword Master. Is that still the shittiest tank in the game still? Or are they still heavily armored dps class? I never bothered to look back since then. I ditched this game to play Aion, and then I ditched Aion to play IV. Burned through the content in both games like a wildfire. I remember this game barely working...as someone else mentioned. This thread is cute.

Originally posted by bunnyhopper Actually, it does. STO's quests were really repetative (not nearly as repetative as FFXIV's leves), but at least there was a bunch of them and there was PVP (i.e. stuff to do), and there was a wide variety of landscapes (more than THREE), and the switch between ship and ground was a cool idea even if not implemented well. FFXIV really took the genre to a new low by making a game like STO seem good, let alone even acceptable. Warhammer is still way better with more balanced, fun and extensive PVP and tons of replayability (STO had basically zero replayability). |

Originally posted by SoulSurfer I also remember this game barely working when I left a couple years ago, and was probably leading the flames (if you notice when I like a game I go all out, and the same when I hate I game). But they did a whole bunch of work on the game since then. Classes are really balanced well, ORVR is worth doing and pretty fun, lag is gone, they merged servers (although Badlands is the only reliable one- hopefully they'll merge the other three into one and just run on two). However, they never got in the other cities to my knowledge (I'm only level 28 since the start of this thread so I'm not too knowledgable about end game), and I don't know about Swordmaster. A heavily armored dps class doesn't sound too bad to me though. |

Originally posted by Zookz1 This is the main thing right here. I think SE ignored the beta testers because we basically listed every mechanic in the game and told them it was "un-fun". I haven't played Warhammer but maybe the difference was that it had a lot less screwed up machanics and systems in the game and just needed some things tweaked? "I'm not cheap I'm incredibly subconsciously financially optimized" |
Originally posted by choujiofkono The thing with Warhammer is it's almost totally about PVP. PVP when done right (rarely in MMOs) is more fun than PVE because it's not scripted and it all depends on the actions of human beings playing in realtime, so every battle is different, and tactics and choices in battle matter. There was serious balance issues in Warhmmer a couple years ago. There was no point in playing against a team with 3 bright wizards for example. Some CC was totally out of control. ORVR was not rewarding enough to be worth doing. They fixed all that though and the game is seriously fun. The thing that really sank the game was they released on like 30 servers for a population that could fill 10, and for PVP you obviously need people to play against or it doesn't work. So the population was all spread out and playing on most servers just didn't work as intended. They've since merged them down to 4, and could do well by merging them down to 2. Unfortunately it took them far too long to get over their egos and do that. Otherwise the game would be doing much better than it is. I've commented in-game and others agree that if Warhammer could somehow be released today, without all the negativity and mistakes of release, it would be huge. |

I personally found Warhammers character models terrible, but it has the fun factor missing in XIV. I absolutely love the public quest system. |

Originally posted by shal.ffxi Well, as for me, I'd rather play a game that I felt was great NOW, not in "time to come". FFXIV might be great in a year or two. Until then I'm certainly not going to play it. |
