Any company that doesn't support official forums of its own games, shouldn't be supported.

We are talking on line games here. Not some FPS Nintendo game.

Mark Jacobs is responsible for that. He (mis)uses other man's forums in every way he can.

This alone leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. It is hiding for the wrong reasons, I wouldn't go as far to say it is hideous, but manipulative it is.

The question is why? Costs? My nephew has his own forum.

You obviously are a noob to MMOs if your chief complaint or even any complaint over not having Forum boards.  Mythic's operated just fine for years without them.

btw a forum board run by a kid that has what 50 to 100 people in it pales in costs compared to ones with thousands of people in which you have to pay people to moderate those boards.

Freebie / non corporate forums are always a zillion times cheaper than the real thing.

And a zillion times better.  Look at the WHA boards.  All facts, no crap, no trolling. Every arguement against the game is legit with facts, otherwise it is deleted.  Mythic isn't pouring 1000s into it either which means they pour thousands into their game and not on the whiny forum posters.

I'm saddened that they are making their official forum only to have thousands of whiners bog them down day in and day out from here on.

If Mythic wanted to look after whiney prepubescents all day they should have started a children's daycare, not a message board. Its too bad they caved to the QQ. Hopefully they will ignore it once they set it up. Let the little bastards make there own little island of filth like in lord of the flies.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.

Good to see that you think you're right about something, because your attempt at a poll has  blown up in your face with most people saying you're wrong

Judging a MMORPG's success on whether the lead developer gets fired/removed, however, is something that has past examples.

Brad McQuaid, Richard Garriott, Gaute Godger - all removed from their respective games after obvious failures on their part.    This type of thing is driven by something no Forum troll or fanboi can refute - hard business numbers and profits.

Let's wait and see what happens.   Anything is possible but I wouldn't be surprised if Mark Jacobs is still around long after other games still in development  have come and gone.

I agree and EA is tanking. Look at the stock performance, it's bad for even this market, and look at the news surrounding it. WAR was supposed to be the game that brought home the bacon, but all they got was a dead pig.

Somehow I don't think that one game made by an EA subsidiary was supposed to 'bring home the bacon'.  EA has tons of games and tons of smaller companies I.E. Mythic.  If they based their entire business plan around Warhammer than the company deserves to fail, but they did not.  Their other branches just aren't pulling their weight.  Warhammer is far from a failure, and anyone who says so is simply a troll.  The game made some release mistakes (too many servers), but those problems have mostly been fixed.  No the game does not have WOW subscribtion numbers, but no game does, and that hardly makes the game, as you call it, a "dead pig."

I think its safe to say Warhammer could already be considered a successful MMO.

I waited a long time for W.A.R to come out. I thought that the open beta show promise, but was a little perplexed with missing four classes (two of which I was really looking forward to) and the utter lack of trade skills- not to mention how they worked. Granted, I bitched about WoW's trade skills- until I played LOTRO- and the way the skills work in W.A.R. I have become a fan of the WoW trade skills again. *sigh*

I was also looking forward to no having to grind. I figured that between PVE, PQs, and RvR, I would have to do little to no grinding. That would be true, if I could ever get into an RvR scenario. I have seen the tier 2 scenario three times since I became level 21, and my tier three guildees have never seen the tier three scenario- even after 30 hours of waiting in queues. After completing upto chap 10 in Chaos, I have also done chap 8-10 in Greenskins, and 8-10 in Dark Elves, and I am STILL level 21. After quitting LOTRO because I spent most of that game farming Yetis for the bonus, I find myself in WAR, once again, farming fucking Yetis because the kill collector gives experience for them

The result of all this is that my already low population server, KIslev, is getting lower. The Guild Master of my guild cleaned out 60 players who had not logged on in over two weeks, which is pretty sad for a game that has been around for only three weeks. I believe we will be clearing out more as there are about 50 people who have not logged on in the past week. People are fleeing this game left and right, which cuts down on the available RvR, which destroys the point, and fun, of the game. When I called customer service to see if I could transfer my toons to a higher population server, I was told that "Was not possible" and that they were "looking for ways to remedy the situation".

I have a remedy: fire Mark Jacobs.

That's right. Fire the incompetent general manager and vice president of Mythic Entertainment who allowed the release an unfinished game, late, with serious flaws and irritating features (20 second send mail delay?) I'm sure that the shareholders have noticed the 30% DROP in stock value since the release of W.A.R. and the fact that the servers are laggy, even with low population, is unacceptable. The higher population servers have a too low of a cap- so the only people who can play are those who don't have school or a job.

Contact EA. Tell them what is going on, and demand accountability. Hold the man who was responsible for this utter debacle accountable and fire Mark Jacobs.

You honestly believe EA lost that much money...from WAR? And WAR was a much more finished and complete game than most at launch. I don't play it, but its not a bad game by any means.

 Wow.

My server is just about perfect when it comes to population; I was in a 200-man T3 brawl the other day, and when I hopped back into T1 on a brand new White Lion to see how the low-end INF rewards for oRvR were, I found literally sixty people bashing around down there.  Tier 2 is also jumping, and Tier 4 is going back and forth between the sides faster than I've ever seen.

Also, why are you complaining about the server being dead and the queues being long if you're on a bloody low-pop server?  Why would you bitch?  You asked for it.  Get on a high-pop, healthy server and you're going to find the game Mythic intended to give you.

Hey, call Customer Support, that's cool.  For in-game stuff.  Getting unstuck, getting back broken gold bags, things like that?  Sure, absolutely.  If you want to -transfer-, you have to talk to someone other than a CSR.  Like a lot of companies, Mythic's in-game CSRs are A) powerless and B) terrible.  They don't know basically anything, when it comes down to it; they're either outsourced or interns on shit detail.

Also, the servers are laggy?  In what world?  Mine's been perfect except in a few, short-duration (minutes, not hours) circumstances, and only when literally hundreds of people are bashing on each other at a Keep or a BO.  The server I'm on is cookin', there's fighting going on all the time, and I've never had a problem getting heals off in time or making sure I got that last hit to fire right when I needed to.  Also, I've never waited in queue (if I signed up for all instead of only one of the Scenarios) pop in more than five minutes, even in the deepest depths of four AM.  Also, the annoying mail delay is fixed now!  You know why?  Because we complained about it.  We used the feedback button.  We, the folks who actually give a fuck about the game, are making an attempt to get the issues we see brought to light, and you know what?  It's working.  They made a sweeping changes to combat on the Test Server; we got together as one and said EEW, and they got rid of many of the changes they were thinking of making, instead enacting a few that were suggested directly by the players; I have a letter I wrote to the devs, wherein a couple of the improvements and changes made to the game lately were written -before- the game had any changes made, even to the test server.

These folks have been tirelessly doing everything they can to make this game, which was muddy and difficult to so much as run around in in the first few weeks of beta, better and better.  And it keeps -getting- better.

If you don't like Kill Collector quests, then don't DO them.  Get on a healthier server, sign in for RvR, go to the lakes and get your hands dirty, and stop complaining about issues that, for folks who are on decent servers, -do not exist-.  There are loads of ways to level that don't involve farming Yetis, and if that's all you can think of to do with yourself, then that's a failure on your part, not WAR's.  I have not once gone out to farm for Kill Collector quests, because not a single time have I needed to; I've been fighting to my heart's content since I logged in the first day, luckily having picked a popular server, and I've never looked back.  This game is pretty damn good, as MMOs go, with a smooth launch and a team that fix the problems we bring up not only happily, but with alacrity.

Square Enix does not have official forums for FFXI and it is doing fine, and DAoC never had official forums and that did fine as well. WAR seems fine with out them but it does look like they are adding some type of official forum but i'm not 100 percent sure.

Well if you want to fire Mark Jacobs you might as well include Paul and Jeff. I see no reason to give them a get out of jail free card either. I thought they had good ideas but they were poorly implemented such as PQs,how bad of a faction imbalance this game has and the pve portion of the game is very dull.

The calling for MJ to be fired, yeah, you need some perspective. Only someone who has no idea how games are made, and thinks making games are easy would say such a thing. It always easer to look at a game, then say something needs improvement, but how about you start from point one, and make a game, that’s the hard part and what they have done very well.

Armchair devs, lolz.

Looks like the corporate EA decided the armchair devs knew better than MJ , and they did. Mark Jacobs was like a little brat during closed beta with his immature rants , and stupid decisions. Someone finally realized he need to go , and good riddance , he never had any real talent anyway other than running his mouth.

He deserved to be forced out.

OP you got it right and deserved to have this thread show it :)

The OP did indeed hone right in on a BIG problem with the game: Jacobs. The funny thing is the poll. 3/4 of people then thought Jacobs shouldn't have been fired back then. That's what I call blind loyalty. :P

That's an awful lot of clueless individuals. I see some of those self-righteous fans are sadly no longer among us defending with sword and shield. Some real winners (or losers) were in that group, lol.

I give him credit for braving those arrows shot at him for speaking his mind and telling the truth, when everyone was on the "You are playing Warhammer WRONG" bandwagon back then.

"What man is a man who does not make the world better?"

Ya know I just started playing again on Iron Rock and the open RvR is rocking in all Tiers, as are the PQs and scenario wait was like 5 minutes.

Join a better server.

You think MMOs are ever released finished? Hahaha. You should fire yourself from ever posting on these forums again.

WoW didn't have 13 million subs in it's first year of operation. Give it time.

Things have shaken up with the new leads and Bioware/Mythic MMO/RPG team being made, the improvements and additional content will keep coming in, show some support and encourage others to play this great game.

ZOMG it's not perfect day 1?!?! Grow up.

I'm so excited about the new Bioware/Mythic MMO team under EA. Obviously Mythic needs the help to get WAR off the ground again and who better then Bioware? It shows me EA is serious about continuing to improve and expand on WAR, and they are dedicated to releasing good quality MMOs that do well.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

When you reread the OP, he was dead on. Then you read a few responses to him like this one:

Oh my god...

The posts on this site have started loosing all semblance of sanity.

The game has a user rating of 8.84, rock solid. Full one point above any other game.

I love the game. And so do all the people I actually know who are playing it.

It's getting glowing reviews both from users and professional reviewers.

... and yet if you take one look at the thread headings in mmorpg.com you'd think the sky is falling and that WAR is the greatest POS ever released.

There is something seriously wrong here. This is utterly crazy. To the OP: are you insane?

There is simply no point trying to counter-argument anything you've written because you cannot sensibly argue with someone who is so completely and utterly wrong and yet absolutely convinced of his infalability.

FYI:

the mail CD is 5 seconds now, 1 sec for guildies and alts in the next patch. I think it is obvious even to the dogs and cats why there was a 20 sec CD at release.

the game is less than a month old - maybe that has some impact on population distribution sherlock?

in the next patch lower pop factions and servers will be getting xp and renown boosts and there has already been silent increases to T3 quest xp.

... and all that in LESS THAN ONE FREAKING MONTH!!!!! I have NEVER EVER SEEN A MMO COMPANY REACT THAT FAST TO PLAYER CONCERNS! NEVER EVER!!!!

AND YOU WANT TO FIRE ITS CEO!?!??!

FYI I'm playing on a low pop server as well but I'm aware of it and I'm taking my time leveling. In addition I've formed a guild and we roam the PvE and RvR zones as an open warband and we've NEVER EVER had any of those problems you've mentioned with grouping, completing PQs getting XP or finding open RvR action. In fact we had and still are having a total blast. L2P!

This clown even put tons of "crazy" emotes in the post to try and humiliate the OP. Just sad.

It just made me sad to think I actually argued with clueless people like that for months about what WAR needed to do. They were so sure of themselves because THEY liked it and couldn't see the forest for the trees and how mashnutted this game truly was.

Tsk tsk. Well, at least they won't be back with nonsense again on how AION is going to fail, as many of these same idiots did. I don't think they'll ever be back and AION won't fail this hard.

Aion? Don't make me laugh.

Everything I have seen points to:

Step 1. Grind one of four classes though standard kill/fetch/fedex quests.

Step 2. PvP with the rest of the 8 year olds.. while flying! ZOMG PEW PEW LAZERZ!

Which has been done... 193,875 times before by other grinder Eastern games.

What is going to happen:

Aion is realeased. Aion gets a lot of subsciptions, people level their toons. People begin to quit cause of lack of customization per class, lack of visual distinctiveness, or because they get to Abyss and get steam roll ganked and unable to ever purchase any Abyss point gear. Or cause they realize it's the same level-quest grind... but with WINGS!

So the 150-250k people who are in power-guilds will continue to play at high levels and take turns pwning each others noobs. Sounds awesome.

The games future? More levels to grind, more fortresses to pwn noobs in, more static "raid" bosses that are tank and spank with no thought behind their design other then "bigger numbers = boss mob!"

I'll pass.

Don't even joke about firing MJ, that would make Barnett boss *shudders*.

But really, this game should go a lot closer to the Warhammer tabletops and RPG game. Those games have millions of players and Mythic did the misstake of alienating them to make the game more suitable to younger people.

Ever played Warhammer fantasy roleplaying game? The feeling you get there and the one in WAR are very different. If they can come closer to that they might actually get the real Warhammer fans to play the game, I would.

On the other hand they can't do what SOE and LA did to the SWG players, they need to make the game fun both to the WAR players and the Warhammer players. But they must get the dark horror feeling with nasty humor into the game, it is Warhammers trademark and without it, the game just feels like any other MMO.

Here's the thing.

Everything YOU don't like about AION is being enjoyed by over 3.5 million people right now.

AION isn't going anywhere for a long time. You've got to figure when NA/EU launches they'll pull in at least 400-500K apiece because the MMO market has been so crappy with games like AoC and WAR for many months. People are starved for something new. You know what that means?

AION will be around much longer than Jacobs. Oh wait.. Jacobs is already gone. That should tell you what direction WAR is heading in actually. You have 150k-200k playing WAR. You have three servers that are the basically mainstays and can NEVER reach HIGH again, until another merge. The writing has been on the wall for some time. AION will be releasing in three months. That's all the time you have. When people in WAR find out they can pvp in there and there's a third faction to break things up, they will be out of there faster than someone yells "SWINE FLU!" in a movie theatre.

LOTD is a joke. Before WAR was two factions avoiding each other. With LOTD, its two factions being FORCED to avoid each other. Why is that fun?

No one is trying to get you to play AION. You'll probably end up there yourself after all your guildies go first. That's how things usually go.

Does it matter if he was fired (which he probably was) or if he quit?

The point is, he's not there, right?

Doesn't matter if your girl kicks you out or you walk out, all that matter is.. you're not hitting that anymore. :)

Glad to see that Mark has chosen to leave the company, I wouldn't want to be apart of EA let alone what war had become.

Good luck MJ and look forward to seeing your next project unfold!

The failures of War and the concerns posted about war are not for the GM, sure Mark would probably state in some upcoming date about his position and why he left. I just don't make assumptions about heresay and rumours until you get the full picture from the horse.

The horse here is Mark, and he's bolted the project and I say good for him. No matter how good you are as a GM, you cannot save a sinking ship.

I'll pass.

Great!

I don't plan to play the game more than 2 months anyway.   I have buy shorter games ( Mass Effect) for more money.

I think AION will be fun for a while (like AoC was) and after that, It will be a good idea to cancel.  Hee... I have to admit I want the urge to play it now!.. hahaha.. I love the *feeling* of the weapons :-)
