I keep hearing that word a lot and ppl yelling "omg, how will they balance 20 classes?!?" and also others saying "if they can't balance, i wont  play"...



Now does anyone know and can they tell (without breaking the NDA ofc) it the balance will be done the "everyone can beat everyone" or rock-paper-scissors?



Personally i'm against "every class has to be able to kill every other class"... Just look at dnd... mages can deal out tons of damage but get in close and they have to fear for their life... why cant there be a similar system in mmorpgs? say:



tank -> mage -> melee dps -> ranged dps -> healer -> tank...



Just a stupid example ofc... but anyway... skill will still play a large role in the game :o)

They have stated the all classes will be better against a certain class/classes, even with certain classes, weak against others. Every class is set up that way. Here is a link explaining: mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm

In before the obligatory 20+ page flamefest on the definition of "balance" in MMORPGs....

Well, the general gist of it is that its going to be a rock-paper-scissors thing (+shotgun ofc).... basically.... in a way.

- masteries are going to be very important, so while one class will beat another in one spec combination, a different combination of masteries may reverse the dominance

- group play and synergies between different classes and specs will play a huge part in determining who's stronger. This is a game that emphasizes group play. I don't think you'll see much 1v1 PvP in WAR... except maybe on open servers ()

The second point imo is the most important: it's not how badass you personally are but how well you work  with and complement your allies. If you don't know how to play with others you'll sink like a stone. Just like in any decent team sport for example.

Ah.. thought as much ^^

tyvm for the read... now all i have to do is wait for the OB to see what it's like (and god knows but hopefully GOA will handle that well since i already hear rumors about EU beta testers complaining)

The charting seems pretty clear. Also this game is RvR although it can have solo play ranged DPS and Healers are support classes and in the large battles that are the ultimate end game in RvR everyone should be fulling the appropriate roles in team. Open quests if done correctly should really be interesting since I guess some situations will have you zerged by NPC and possibly player opponents.

The game will just as balanced as any other ya know. A Paladin in Wow can take on a tank cuz it can heal... similar thing in WAR.

Not necessarily in WAR there are no god mode bubbles, it may be different how do you know  If a tank  can endure more then the WPs can heal.  How do you know If the tank has some tactics set up specifically for a fight against WPs or is specced the right way?

GOA could give away free cookies to all testers and people would complain that there aren't enough chocolate chips.

I'm in beta(have been for quite somt time) and have played a chosen and Marauder. I can't say how it's balanced, that's why I just told him to look at WoW. It may or may not be similar to that :P
