Somehow I knew in hell there would be mushrooms.

Can someone direct me to a link or give me some information on how they're planning to keep the servers balanced in regards to order: destruction ratios? I was just checking out WAR Vault and noticed that there's at least triple the number of destruction guilds..

I think they are going to do a soft cap like WoW. When it goes over the limit you have to wait in a que to get in. And don't worry about the 3:1 ratio. only a small percentage of the eventual players come from the forums.

Molnu has a good explanation of the balance in that thread.

I know I seen a video or interview with how they are going to deal with this. They will have multiple ways of balancing.

From what I can recall, I could be wrong on this but:

I think they will limit number of players on a server from each side and maybe reward players for joining the side that is short people.

If one side keeps winning all the time, they will some how help the losing side out after a while. Whether this is automatic or the GM's keep track of the servers war status, I don't know.

Actually I have a really good idea how to balance a weak side:

Me + lots of caffeinated beverages + a target-rich environment = murder-death-kill.

A idea ive had to help with population imbalance is.

Don't keep the population numbers a secret to the player base, ie:

Log into server motd.

Order population today = 35%

Destruction population today = 65%

I feel the realm players would notice the difference and try to maintain a more stable balance.
After all, the people that will complain about the imbalances are the player base. And for open world pvp, it is alot more enjoable when the servers are close to balanced.

Balance will also make wait times more equal while waiting for instances to spawn.

Just my 2c.

Too weird to live, and too rare to die

One thing Mythic has always been very open with is their population numbers. There are not many premium MMORPG companies that, on their official website, list exact server numbers. Go on the Camelot Herald and you can see, at any time of day, the exact populations. They hide nothing, even when DAoC is showing is its age and has a pretty abysmal subscription count.

I think the same thing will come through in WAR, so we the players will always have access to populations, and likely an Order vs. Destruction breakdown. This will help fair-minded players make the right decision, assuming they have no racial affinity, to help the weaker side.

In addition, there may be a bonus given when a population dips too low relative to another.

At any rate, Mythic is aware of the problem, having seen it in their previous effort, and will probably implement counters to it before release.

P.S. Want to help stop imbalance now? Be Order on release! I can pretty much guarantee they will be the underdog.

<-- White Lion.  I like being part of the underdog team, and the white lion really piques my interest.

Behold! Rash of the Itch King comes in November! Quake in fear!

Yeah, Order will be the underdogs, mainly because people like to play as a human character, but unlike WoW there's Chaos humans too, so we won't have all the humans on Order. That said, I think I'll have alot of fellow Warrior Priests running around healing White Lions, Swordmasters, Shadow Warriors and Engineers.

I choose to view it somewhat differently:

Destruction are typically more aggressive people. Those that enjoy conflict, and the prestige that goes with kicking someone else's butt. They are more inclined on a general basis to want to lead than to follow, and that brings a large number of guilds to the scene. Each guild tends to be smaller than it would normally be - it is the case of too many cooks in the kitchen, and not enough waiters.

Order on the other hand, has fewer people that want to take the reigns and just beat the enemy into the ground - it isn't their natural tendency. That leads to overall less guilds, but higher population counts in each, on average, across the entire list of guilds. That is actually an advantage, as you get better inter-guild and inter-alliance communication when they are bigger. A larger number of guilds with less people in each are more slow to respond, due to delays in communication (and sometimes breakdowns in it).

Even if Order is outnumbered in terms of players, their fewer number of guilds with larger average member counts should compensate in better response times. I do think there needs to be "other balance mechanisms" in effect, but what those are only Mythic knows.
