EA has nothing to do with forums, Mythic decided long ago, around 7 to 8 years ago, they didn't want to have forums for their games. EA is feeding Mythic money to better WAR so that Mythic can save EA's name as an MMO killer company.

eq2 has forums, they're bad, over moderated, no one cares what's written there anyway and everyone who has the slightest clue of the game posts on eq2flames instead. yet it was mentioned here as a good example of a mmorpg forum.

vanguard beta forums were a mess, thousands of posts about things that were just bad (and still are), big part of those posts were straight out crap, the other part was ignored by the devs anyway.

official forums don't make sense for any game, no one cares what solutions people suggest, have you ever seen a game actually implementing one of those? (maybe you have but that sure as hell seemed like a miracle to you), the traffic you get for actually important questions (technical ones) is extremely low and in every mmorpg has by far the lowest post count. all other questions can be asked in game, there is no need for official forums.

DAoC did not have Official forums and the community still functioned very well.

I played DAoC for a month about a year ago.  I eventually gave up because it was impossible to find any hard info on the game.  If I had a question I had to spend hours searching poorly maintained fansites instead of a few minutes on the official forums.  I eventually quit the game because of the lack of community and information that come with not having an official forum.

It's just plain lazy on their part not to have them... and it's a service I have come to expect for my 15 bucks a month. I'd rather skip this game all together than have the only dev interaction be three random softball questions of their choice answered every Friday like the do with DAoC.

I think the only people who are really vocally supportive of this idea are associated with one of the fansites to begin with... since those are the only people with anything to gain by not having official forums.

lol. there you go! same thing happened to me when i tried doac. i gave up. also..i agree about the idea being supported by people associated with the fansites....what's in this for them?

That is the argument. They aren't NEEDED, but they are nice to have.

they are nice to have because then people feel like someone cares, yea.

there are 4 types of posts on mmorpg forum (from common to rare):
- troll posts
- suggestions
- questions that have been asked before
- new questions

the first three types are either ignored or unnecessary, yet they make up the by far biggest part of any forum, it's just not worth that, really.

That entire post is total BS.  The EQ2 forums are active, searchable and packed with information.  Anyone who wants to can go over there and look.  The assertion that anyone who's anyone posts on eq2flames is absurd.  As I understand it, they aren't even an officially supported fansite any more.  It's just a place to bash the game these days.

Official forums are generally packed with gameplay guides of all types, server and class specific discussions, answerers to everyday questions people might have.  I don't think a lot of people actually believe their posts on official forums lead to gameplay changes, but they are still always the best place to find people to have those discussions with.. and certainly the most likely place for a dev to read your ideas.

qfe. also don't drag soe games into this forum...soe should never be used as a comparison unless you are discussing manure...also to those who moderate these fansites:

Hmm, after reading this thread it seems some people feel they are good, some feel they are a waste of time from a development standpoint. You will find guides and such for a game like WAR when it launches via an easy google search. People will troll without care on any forum, but how many are willing to troll out of their way by directly emailing Mythic or using their feedback tool? It actually becomes an easy way for Mythic to separate old topics, troll posts, and spam, from real concerns. Anybody with a real issue should be using their email to contact them, GMs in game, or using the feedback tool. Imagine a game company trying to read through every post of every thread looking for valid questions? You wouldn't be interacting with the developers, you would be interacting with the forums.

I honestly think that the AoC Devs do a fantastic job on their official forums of answering good questions but almost every time they post on the boards, it turns into some people bash their post, some people think it is the second coming of god, and some people pick apart every aspect of their post trying to get exact details. This then leads to all three groups butting heads and now the forum moderators have to clean up the mess, lock threads, and ban or suspend people, and it happens every day that I am visiting. People ignore stickied topics, people ignore the search function, and then when people do a search and find the topic they need but still have a question, they get flamed for reviving an old thread.

I could care less for or against an official forum, as I said I will post all over the net, official forums would work for me though if people read stickies, followed directions, and didn't recreate thread after thread because they are too lazy to search.

You were fine for the majority of the thread and not really trolling until this post. I don't think money is an issue for these fansites otherwise they would not have been made. To call a playerbase 10 year old "wowtards" makes me completely happy with your decision to not play Warhammer. There was an actual discussion going on in this thread for the most part but you just made your stance look bad. Would you want to see posts like forthelulz on official forums? Hell no, and it makes me cringe to see them here. Some people here come up with very valid arguments that actually make me think, like Salvatoris, Pheace, among others, and every time I think about saying, you know what, I wish you guys would get that forum, it is posts like yours that make me think not having them is for the best.

and you think there won't be thousands of immature "barrens chat" types in this game?! you do realize that wow players now say that wow stands for Waiting On Warhammer? you expect amateur mods to deal with them? hell you can't even take one post you find offensive!

Just because other people are being immature, does not mean you have to be as well. There will not be an official forum and if you are a person of your word, you will not be playing because of it, so why still post here?

The beautiful irony of this post here is that you are no better if not worse than the people you're trying to look down on.

If you don't like immature try acting mature.
