Got a whole other year before we will know for sure, relax friend. If it gives off a sense of having your question answered, I am sure EA Mythic will have such a billing plan where prepaid time as well as a recurring bill will be in order to pay to play the game.

Yea, EA is HUGE. Their billing system will probably ressemble WoW's with either a steady monthly fee, a 6 month plan or a gamecard or whatever. But I would't worry about paying by credit card, there really is no risk of such and such happening to your card and some fool leaking all your money out.

Q: Why doesn't Mythic use game cards for people who don't have credit cards?
A: Those little plastic cards, preloaded with several months of subscription time, are pretty neat. But any question that begins with "Why doesn't Company X do Y" can be answered with "Money."
Other MMO companies that use the game cards will admit that 2-3% of their players use them, and that it comes out to a loss for their company. Retailers sell them on the same terms that they sell software boxes - meaning half of what you pay is going to the retailer. So, a month's play time on one of those cards costs you twelve dollars or more, but the game company only gets half.
2-3% of our customers use Pay By Cash (http://support.darkageofcamelot.com/kb/article.php?id=455), and less the processing fee, the subscription money comes to us.
(There are various "pre-loaded" credit cards out there, that act as a debit card on a total dollar amount that you pay up front. Some of these, MC and Visa, work pretty well. One provider is located here: https://www.greendotonline.com/contents/login.aspx. The American Express preloaded cards almost never work, be warned.)
With all that said, we'd like to offer the game cards, and we have business guys constantly trying to negotiate an arrangement on this topic. For now, Pay By Cash is the best option. This was their view on it before being acquired by EA. With EA's money it looks like they will definitely be selling game cards. |

Before EA merger - no - Mark Jacobs said that retailers eat up too much of the price on gamecards so mythic did not plan on offering them for WAR or DAOC. But since the EA merger I would guess they probably will - I know you USED to be able to get gamecards for UO (tho noobody seeems to carry them any lnoger.....)

MasterCard sells small $25 gift cards at many grocery stores. They have a very small activation fee, like $2 or so, and then you get your full $25 on the card. I use them to purchase things online all the time, from companies that might not be trustworthy. I'm sure with EA there won't be any problems, though. Also, just as it said in the FAQ, the American Express cards have NEVER worked for me, so beware. They really are only for use in actual stores, to buy tangible products. |
