Weapons looked plain, not a lot of character movement for pvp, looked more like you'd expect when grinding low level mobs, and, I thought animation was lackluster. Spells-effects were the only things that looked like they were enjoying themselves--a little too much.
This vid represents the game that people are anticipating. If they can't impress then they shouldn't release till they have something that does.

Had you bothered to read the post above - These were level 1 -10 characters (Tier1) characters so yes the ywere low level

I like the more realistic looking weapons myself...

After watching the video I came to the conclusion that PvP looks and sounds better in WoW. Good thing it's only Alpha and it's going to change.

OK sports fans heres my opinions for those who care.

Firstly let me be blunt because thats who I am... Im not impresed. Not at all.

It looks like they are going the direction of flashy any funny insted of gritty. Appealing to the masses of 11 year olds who want to play and look at fun  and funny things.  Between that explosion of happy green orbs of energy from the runepriest and the big foot of doom that crushes people , its looking rather silly indeed. Ok so perhaps the giant foot that comes down is a very important part of orc lore, but can we make it and everything else in the game LOOK less cartoon and more like a wargame?

Anyone see how DAoC looked when it was released? I was there from the beginning. I want this game to at least look like DAoC year 1. what I would prefer is for it to look like DAoC NOW and look more like a graphic novel and not a cartoon strip. And dont patronize me by saying "they are just tier 1" either. This game clip reminds me of playing final fantasy 7. Too much glitz and glamor can take away from the game.  I know its already turning me off. at least its not like wow and all the fighting takes place while jumping in mid air and spinning in circles. Im guessing there is a stick and face command and spells are not insta cast.... thank god.

Im still going to play it though, it could be a bunch of cartoon charachters running around hitting eachother with giant sized foam mallets, it will still be a pvp based mythic war game so its gonna be good. But I just wanted to say how dissapointed I am by the rainbowbright type "tickle me elmo" sounding first glimpse of pvp.

The Bad

  • The actual sound effects immediatly felt like they could get anoying over time.

Since when did sound effects in combat sound good? I haven't heard any game so far that has good sounds in combat. But tell me if you have found any.

Bright Green=Shaman Spells! Orcs are green. Goblins are Green. Gorc and Mork are probably Green. Most Shaman spells in warhammer are described as being green. So why wouldn't Shaman Spells be Bright Green?

And yeah, Runepreist Runes were a little shinney but they have to visable to the enemy to know what you're going up against, you know?

Why don't you make a picture of what you think the spells should look like and say "Here, Mythic. Do this!"

I wasn't really impressed after watching the video, but I didn't expect to be either. After all the game isn't even close to release and the video was very short with low tier characters. I think this video wasn't supposed to draw new players into the game, this video was just a sneak peek. We haven't seen anything close to real RvR yet!

Here is an example of Everquest in Alpha. And Everquest after launch. Just so people can see the big difference there usually is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ae-1KuAvMY EQ1 Alpha -  November 97

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngsjkavbgkw EQ - Raid in Ntov  - 2000

Ofcourse neither are up to date with todays games.

I'm not an EQ player, but I assume EQ launched much earlier than Nov 2000 right? (hate to thinik it was 3 years between alpha and launch)

It came out March 16th 1999, so that's a year and a half after launch.  If you look at WoW at launch compared to WoW a year and a half later, the graphics are the exact same.  I'm pretty sure it's the same with EQ.  They didn't start revamping the graphics for at least 2 years after the release.

Point being a "lot" of polishing gets done during alpha and beta, and WAR hasn't even hit beta yet.  I think it's safe to say what we're seeing now in the alpha footage isn't close to what we're going to see in the beta footage which won't be close to what we're going to see on release.

I just watched the game play video and I can see where this game is headed. Multiplayer Supper Mario would have been a better title. What were you guys thinking?

If you're talking about sound, then I agree.  If you're talking about anything else, I'd have to ask what exactly you were watching? :p

For a first glimps seem good to me being an admited DoAC fan. A Gem in the rough a bit od cutting and polish and you have a thing of beauty. as for a WoW kill It dosent matter I am just looking forward to playing in a world that tell now has only existed in my head or the table top. Warhammer FRp and battles have been part of my game time for many years. to walk the world evan just a small part of it makes the game worth the price and sub fee alone. the Fact that mythic is makeing just makes me all the more excited to see it . they did wonders in DoAC with the leason learned there my expetations are high. but not to the point that I think they are incapble of messing it up. they might piss off a lot of folks. cant wait for beta and the chance to see it I have hope but I am a bit leary of games based on the old standbys  DDO taught me that harsh lesson. just cause its great PnP or table top dosent mean some tard with a vision cant screw it up.

Looking good!

People are always gonna be haters, there are proffessional trolls on the web whose only joy in life is trying to be as contrary as possible, as we have seen in this thread... Trolls live on.

As for the video's, it's good stuff, they are really kewl for showing this stuff, and even better for the "new" video, which jsut put to shame most of the complainers comments.

It's alpha, alpha isn't about "looking good" it's about making sure X, Y, and Z basics function as intended, polish is for the end.

Think of it this way, do you really think a broadway play look good during it's first rehearsal's?  During castign calls?  That's what this is, wait for the launch, wait for the Gold Plate when the curtain raises and the play REALLY begins.

Always change your signature.

True it is too early to judge.  I don't know why they'd throw the movie out there if it has no bearing on what we are gonna see later on but whatever.  To me the movie looked like a modern day Gauntlet.  But I don't want to judge the game just yet.  I will judge the movie though and imo it's 100% craptastic.

They didn't remake it.  That's the exact same video just looks brighter.  Like the gamma is set higher.

Is it over yet...

From the looks of the charecter models there using place keeper models. Alot of the combat animations look like place keepers. Very fluid though. Im very optomistic that WAR will have a excelent animation systems.

As a whole i enjoyed the video, the spell effects made me happy and I thought the animations felt like they where very strong. I would like to see more blood in there tho.
