One of the actual games I enjoyed playing, but not enough to warrant playing by myself with a subscription.

Why has WAR not gone F2P? I would love to keep leveling beyond Tier 1 stuff, and I'm sure it would attract A LOT of people back to the game if there was not a subscription fee.

Don't even get me started on Wrath of Heroes, that was a complete and utter joke.

Is there Hope that EA will stop ignoring a game that could potentially make them money if it went a similar route as Age of Conan?

One can only hope. Although it is 2013...so..forsee a complete shutdown by this point.

Probably because the game just wasnt popular enough, if people werent going to go even for the extended free trial in any kinds of numbers then its extremely doubtful that opening up the rest would have any impact. Have to agree about the shutting down part though, as don't really see how they are not losing money on the game as is, operating costs probably much higher than any income the game brings in.

their "extended free tral" is just a horrible limited trial taht doesnt end. But theres not enough for you in that trial to see if you want to buy the game. Everyone saw it was crap and everyone left.

Im sure if they make it f2p it will definitelly make more money. They know it because they already did it with SWTOR (although swtor f2p model is a slap in the face) but still earned them more money than they have ever done with sub only.

I would purchase the game if they remove the sub. No doubt about it.

Free to play wouldn't save this game. It might show a lot of new people just how bad it was for a few months but after that all they would have done is given the game away to the last few people who actually pay for it.

f2p requires a hefty investment as well, they have to build the f2p features as well as the cashshop.

if WAR is losing money for EA, they would have shut it down already.

remember Vanguard? silently sleeping in the back of SOEs backyward. It went f2p, started being supported again, and its more profitable and it was while asleep.

f2p can make a big difference with War. Yeah they have to invest in the f2p model, but their profit will also increase (if they do it right)

NGE, LOTRO, STO, KOTOR, Lego Star Wars > NGE 2 (SWTOR). SWG>ALL. Above hopefully subject to change.

I guess it would not be financially vaible for EA to make WAR F2P compared to what they are getting from people paying subs.  There is obviously enough people playing if it is still active, and SWTOR only went F2P as at the rate of subs loss it was heading to be deader than WAR, and they needed 500K subs ($7.5 million per month) to break even, and WAR obviously does not need that much to run nor cost that much to create. EA would not keep a dead game active, unless maybe it is under a contract / licence with Game Workshop or something for a set period of time.

Once upon a time, I thought this game was a lot of fun.  If it went F2P I'd prbably give it another go.  IF I gave it another go, I would defintely end up spending some money in the cash shop...which is more than I'm considering doing for the game right now.  I'm willing to bet a lot of people feel this way that played the game during it's first year.

EA hating money is like a fish hating water. They do make horrible choices, but those choices are driven by the cash they hope to wring out of the consumer. So it goes...

Actually, in my humble opinion, they ought to dump money into developing this game more. It just seems 60% complete. Between the failed promises and the warhammer liscense, they might be able to make this almost as awesome as promised. I'm hoping the EA guys get this game up to the level it deserves. F2P would just keep it where it's at now, i.e. life support.

F2P would mean at least 5-10 CSR's constanly online to protect the RvR/PvP from the F2P garbage.

Cheating and exploiting in PVE or soft PvP by F2P garbage is one thing. Protecting the core RvR playerbase in a PvP/RvR centric and only game is something else.

And what kind of money are you going to spent please?

Last thing War needs is P2win situation and even then you guys will still get stomped hard by us, rr100 full decked in strong guild/alliances premades warbands. Nothing elitist but just a fact we still see everyday. Newbies or oldbies coming back are no match for us and it'll take them time and a lot of dedication to get to our level. Paying a sub motivates them actually for the ones staying and biting it through T4 hell.

As someone mentioned on the official forums.

We don't care if there's only one EU and one US server left as we only play on one server at a time, mostly. At the moment the game seems to be well profitable with the actual playerbase so no reason to put it all in jeopardy.

It's very simple actually.

You want to have one of the best PvP/RvR experience there is with a staff and "development" entirely dedicated to PvP/RvR, you pay a monthly laughable sub. Otherwise there are tens and more F2P titles out there. Your choice, not ours.

My time in the game showed me a great pvp following, I just want them to 'finish' development. You know, put more classes in, smooth the rough edges a bit. I used to do warhammer tabletop, got a job at thirteen so I could buy the danged books/models lol, but from what I've seen from EA and Games Workshop.... I bet they won't spend much on development, they'll just milk the cow they have. Too bad, seems like a great pvp game would attract lots of new players. People are chomping at the bit over that camelot game. I'd love to see skaven, old ratman at heart here. My vote would be to develop the game more.

I'm not a PvPer, but RvR in this game was rather fun even with the tremendous unbalance of the bright wizards.

Wife is constantly wondering when this would go f2p also, Both of us would jump back in a hbeartbeat. Even with the problems this was one of the few (fantasy) games that both of us enjoyed.

It is really amusing to read how almost every poster is writing about profits and how a game is making more profit now than before yet no one has any data about game's profit. Everyone just assumes and take it as a fact :D

I still contend it might be a use it or lose it contract and they do not want another developer getting the license.

WAR going F2P would mean that EA would have to acknowledge its existence.

You guys do realize that DCU went F2P with a population just as low as War has right?!?

There really is no reason for them not to make the game F2P, those that are subbing will continue to sub and they may nickel and dime enough people to cover the small cost of a F2P conversion.

Sadly WAR going F2P would only hurt the obscene overhype of CU. If I was Mark Jacobs I would try to delete any evidence of WAR's existence.
