I didn't honestly read much of the thread...

So I'll just say considering the current economy I hope for the people working on the game it IS making a come back.

Personally it will  never be installed on any system I own.. again regardless.

Yet I would hope that the people working on it.. keep their jobs.. just because..

It is smoother than it was at launch, but still far from what WoW provides.

ok thanks, i'm gonna try it regardless for the free trial 10 days just to see for myself how far its come.

As far as I know, there is no single server anymore that has enough population to even have largescale RvR going, to lag you to death or disconnect.

So if you don't experience any lag nor disconnects during PVP anymore. Well, probably because there aren't many people around anymore.

I didn't think I'd like WAR from reading the reviews here ... but find it's alot of fun. The latest patch causes the city seiges to spawn. I haven't experienced much lag of disconnect problems and frequently play in areas with multiple war bands (a war band is a group of 24). IMO this is a vast improvement over what DAOC could do.

Umm, what?  If you are suggesting that stability and performance is better in WAR than it was in DAoC then . . . wow.  And the chances of you being anywhere in WAR today with more than 2 warbands is slim to none.  I was in the roughly 100 vs. 100 keep fights in WAR and it was horrible.  There is simply no way you can compare the performance with even smaller encounters in WAR with even the most hectic 3 realm relic keep encounters.

the problem with WAR is RVR was the only thing to do, and you need others to do it so if you played at odd hours or on a dead server it was much more noticable than say a PVE game. in fact when my wife started playing it she was on a early shift so if she wanted to play she didn't bother to play on a US server because at that time there was nothing going on .

 

where as on every other game she had no problem because she was able to PVE at any time.

 

and the attitude of the playerbase doesn't help either, god forbid you ask for better PVE content you will get flamed off the forum by the "ONLY RVR" Militia. as i posted on the main forums, I don't want "just a PVP game" I want a complete game with good PVE, good crafting and good PVP.

It's because a game can't do all those things well. Not that I have seen.

Would have to agree I have never seen a game with great PvE and PvP, and for those few who said DAOC had great PvE and PvP, honestly I don'y think you ever played EQ or AC because those were great PvE games. Played DAOC from release after like 5 years of EQ and once i was 30+ I spent most of my time out in the frontiers because the PvE was very weak in comparison.

IMHO performance is still not in acceptable levels.wont be a sideshow in some cases but your FPS will be in teens.

Guessing 1-3 months, community voiced some concerns on this so they're thinking how to best proceed.

If warhammer had the spontaneous pvp and action in t4 as it did in the first 2 tiers, plus more people, more interweaving of the zones between order/destruction, it would be pretty freakin good.

The biggest reason i quit besides lack of action and lack of friends playing was the combat system. While it has really cool elements to it and i like the mechanics of many classes, I really could not stand the lagginess/clunkiness of the combat. The casting lag is unreal you can stop casting yoru spell like halfway through and start the next one and it goes off its just terrible.

Checking around on other sites, it doesn't appear WAR is on the rebound or bouncing back or anything really. It's more of a stabilizing time for it to try and keep the remaining subs from leaving.

Just reading on their official forums right now, there seems to be quite a bit of people on Order side now crying/threatening to leave/ragequitting unless this or this isn't done. Doesn't sound like "bounce back" material.

But it's nice to read the cheerleader threads from any failing games. It always reminds me of someone who lived in Detroit their whole life, never having gone anywhere else trying to convince people to come back to the city because "We are bouncing back baby! Cash for Clunkers is working so Detroit will soon be back on top again! Woot!" Just like Detroit...

Yea, I have read nothing about War bouncing back. Like Jay said... the Warhammer forums, say otherwise. My time on the Dark Crag server, still show's the game is on the downfall. Plenty of Order are complaining that the removal of fort's was a mistake. Which now Destro ... just get's into Altdorf faster and more often. I'm part of Destro, and I'll agree.. theres nothing fun at all zerging.. the underpopulated Order side over and over... this is on DC, expierence may be different on other servers. I even expierenced getting zerged to all hell also on Praag then DC..... it's no fun either.

Atleast with Fort's you can make some kind of effort.. to annoy the crap out of the zerg train, and try to keep them out of your city. But all Mythic did was leave the door wide open, and put out a nice welcome mat for the zerging faction. It's wait and see.. if the Underdog sytem will help out matters. But i don't see it being the answer.

All this fort removal crap was a easy cop out on fixing fort's for Mythic.

Spontaneus action when people actually know how to play the game is quite hard for some classes and bit less for some - if you are good solo pvp class like witch elf or such, it's relatively easy to find something to do, but sadly the risk vs. reward in T4 is much higher than in the lower tiers and thus there is a lot of fighting who gets the reward, scenarios are available and are definitely spontaneous if you like it.

To be successful in T4 you need a guild or at least a group of friends so you can do scenarios, for more you need a warband on voice comms and some tactics. Casting lag was fixed several months ago, don't remember exactly when but it was fixed and game is much much more responsive now than it was around the launch.

3 things, I love WAR, I see it as the best PvP game of all time. However, population is diminishing quickly, more and more everyday, I have a 6 month sub, 3 months in and SCs take hours to pop, and WBs are slow, along with Altdorf constaly under seige. This game is great, just it is bleeding badly. I think this is a case of too little too late.

 

I never had any issues with the game or been bothered by the bugs, but the population is the main issue.

 

Secondly, Shadow hunter is in a league of its own, as is Maurader(sp?) Squig herders counter part is White Lions.

 

Thirdly, balance I don't think I have ever noticed any issues with, this game is meant to be played as a team, not solo. And thus balance is there.

 

In closing, great game but unless people return and soon, I fear EA will pull the plug. Mythic will have little to no say, EA paid for development costs and marketing, and still covers hosting. They can and will pull the plug if this game does not recover soon. I hate saying this, I have defended it, but over the last two months it has gone downhill worse and worse. A few months back we had 900 online on each side now we are lucky to peak 500, the old server I was on is now low pop. My new med server is now dying as well. I hope only the best, but I will tell you how it is.

tried it, gameplay in my opinion is still sluggish which is a deal breaker for me personally.

I'm playing on a free trial because Mythic won't accept my prepaid VISA as payment.

Two days ago, I could fly to Altdorf and the other starting areas, and now I can't. My High Elf SW can't use her scroll to go to the racial starting zone. She's stuck in the one pairing.

The free trials which are planned to be switched to neverending are much more limited than they previously were.

You get what you pay for.  ..  . since you aren't paying, don't know what you could really expect.  If they were opening it up to unlimited time on the free trial, guess they have to cut somewhere so you'd be forced to sub at some time, not really a slight against them.

They are already limited to L1-10. Anything higher requires upgrading to a paid account.

Have you checked out dark craig? the one time flagship server of WAR was put out to pasture months ago, from being at high/high to being at low/low all the time now when a PVP game has its last and only PVP server on deaths door what does that say for the game as a whole over all?

I would love to know what the magic number of subs was at when EA pulled the plug on hellgate london it's probaly the same number they will use to pull the plug on WAR.

Just when you think their is nothing worse then a epic fail here comes MYTHIC fail.

 Grats mythic on taking a great IP and destroying it in less then a year, I mean you realy have to work hard to be a bigger failure then  FAILCOM and lose more subs in a shorter time fraim then  AOC and have less subs then them now.

How is the unenployment lines treating you guys at mythic must be nice to sit on your ass and do nothing while collecting a check. Wait a minute thats what you have been doing for past year over their as everyone on the forms cried out "YOUR GAME IS DIEING FIX IT!!!!" and you did nothing but laugh and collect your check  but like your EA check the unenployment check will only last for so long then be gone and well with the bang up job you did with WAR I would not expect to get a job in the gaming feild from any profitable company you might want to look for something in the sanitation department because you know how to handle trash very well. 

For anyone interested, the true restrictions on the game's Endless Trial are as follows:

* Endless Trial accounts are restricted to Tier 1 of the Empire versus Chaos pairing. This includes Tier 1 scenarios but does not include access to the Capital Cities or the other racial pairings within the game.

* Endless Trial accounts may receive mail and purchase from the auction house; however, they cannot send mail or create auctions.

* Endless Trial accounts are limited to designated servers. If you'd like to play with friends on other servers, you will need to purchase a retail copy of the game and transfer your character to their server (or create a new character on their server). All characters Rank 11 and under on purchased accounts have access to unlimited transfers, with a max of one transfer per day. Please note that you can only transfer characters to the same server type as the server you created your characters on (Core, Open RvR, and Roleplay). Please see the full server list here for details about each server, including server type. Alternatively, if you have a friend who is currently playing WAR, you can ask them for a Recruit-a-Friend code that will allow you to create a Recruit-a-Friend trial account which has access to all servers. Please see the Recruit-a-Friend section for more information.
 

They've said they were taking twinking concerns into consideration but if those are the 'restrictions' it certainly doesn't look much like anti-twink.

I am, F2P.. you get what you pay for. Don't see a problem with saying that as its true!

To the OP's points about game imbalance, DoK vs WP is accurate, however the squig herder is not a direct counter to the shadow warrior. You compare them to engineers.

REALLY difficult to use the AH when you can't go to the capital.

The restrictions are ridiculous. Typical Mythic - they can't resist spitting in the player's face even when supposed trying to drum up business.
