So the thought has crossed my mind to check out WAR again.

One of the main reasons for quitting after the free month was the prospect of having to grind PvE instances for good gear and grind PvE content just to level up if I'd continue to play. I was thinking: if it's going to be like that, considering the PvE dungeons were crap and lvl 30+ quest grinding boring as hell, I'd rather return to WoW, something I thought I'd never do (which I'm burnt out on atm, again). I found it horrible that players couldn't just get good gear through PvP/RvR, which was touted to be what WAR was all about. I do remember there were a few drops in sieges that were handled by a truly horrid loot system. So has anything changed now? Can I just enjoy myself doing PvP/RvR, while levelling and getting decent/good gear and not worry about mandatory PvE grind? Is PvP/RvR actually ejoyable? Did they change anything to the horrible party loot system?

I'm talking about lvl 30+ and endgame btw. I remember that early on I could get decent xp and gear from doing scenario's (quests) and participating in the PvP/RvR area's.

Dark Promise set from LV is the only worthwhile to get but even that depends on your class, conqueror and invader is mostly better for all the classes, that and the weapons are slightly better than the ones you get from rvr but not that much.

Personally I concentrate 99% on pvp and do pve when I am needed and can be arsed with it, so definitely no pve required.

You never had to grind PvE to get good gear. You can obtain 100% of your gear through PvP, and always could have.

From what I remember you could get mediocre gear with rp. You could get better gear from sieges, but it was hampered by a horrible loot system. If you wanted to have good endgame gear you were required to do PvE instances. If you didn't have this gear you were restricted in sieges. This was a gear set progression partially based on PvE that was required in order to reach all the endgame content and have competitive gear in PvP/RvR.

I also don't recall levelling through PvP/RvR being viable at later levels.

Basically what Tribalsoul said.

-You need PvE gear to complete the siege PQ.

-You need PvE gear to acquire the necessary WARDS to complete the PQ.

-You can get your Dark Promise set in a matter of 2-3 weeks with the right guild and friends, the PvP sets will take you a while.

Basically Mythic tried to force people into doing PvE as well as PvP, but since the PvE suck so much in this game, most people will tell you, you can get everything in PvP, that's because they either play on a server that never pushed to sieges. So yeah for ORVR you can use the regular pvp gear and grind your way up.

Indeed, you can get wards by doing pvp only now, the wards are unlockable with pvp or pve both and do not necessarily require you to get the actual armor piece or even wear it - for example to unlock Greater Ward piece you would need to kill 200 RR55+ players (or something like that).

So in other words: you can just concentrate on pvp, other than that information above is correct.

You get necessary "coin" items to purchase armor sets if everything else fails as drops from players which are automatically rolled on if you set the options to do so and you can use these to buy the RvR gear you want to.
