Hello... So i was wondering is mythic doing anything to stop botting in warhammer? Also because its more of a pvp game would botting even be useful? |

it seems like age of conans combat system would make botting a lot harder but not impossible |

I can't see botting being a problem in WAR, its mostly PVP with alot of death. AoC on the other hand is bot heaven because of less combat movement and less PVP. In fact the combat system in AoC will be simple for bots as you can get away with randomly hitting the attack keys unlike WAR. |

I thought I read somewhere that they are going to ban people caught botting. |

Originally posted by ltlfishie Actually botting in Age of Conan will probably be far easier than WAR...Age of Conan's combat system is already proving to be incredibly easy to script with newer scriptiable keyboards & controllers and a new scripting program that came out supposedly JUST for AoC. WAR's combat system is very .. as they say situational based...alot of skills are supposedly only usuable during certain situations making it far harder to actually build a bot. In the RvR alone it'd be basically worthless to have an army of bots ..people can pin point them from a mile away and they're likely to be the first targets to go down since they won't be able to defend themselves situation wise. You can't build stragetic / tactical moves based on the combat situation for bots atleast not without some deep knowledge of networking & AI programming and hacking. Heal / Buff Bots for PvE on the other hand would probably be pretty frequent in WAR for the er..types who suck at finding a healer or just honestly don't want to play with others.. |

If you mean buff bots, I believe the design of the classes and the way buffs work wont really allow bots like there are in DAoC... but dunno cuz not in beta :( If you mean farmers, imho, there will be always farmers as long as there are customers (hehe) and farmers will try to use bot programs. Alto, I hope Mythic finds ways to prevent farmers to exist in WAR.

As long as they can keep farming bots to a minimum and keep a harsh stance on them, I'll be happy. Buff bots need to just be scrubbed out though. They caused big problems in DAoC. The game should never get to the point where the community generally agrees that a class is "unplayable without a buff bot." |

Never really thought about farmer bots... *rubs chin*... it probably depends on the ratio of grind vs gain..if it takes forever to gain anything like money or items then farmer bots will show up just like any game, they do frown heavily on this of course...so hopefully they've got plans in mind for how to point them out. I don't see how you can use them to farm RvR ranks (lil hard to farm something thats smarter than an npc rofl) so we probably won't see any farmer rvr bots.

well considering all the equiptment worth havign comes from RvR & PvE with little money involved...it all comes down to how they're setting up their economy...are alot of things bindable? Is it easy to make money? etc If its easy to make money and prices for everyday needed items or craftable items or even respects are moderate & properly proportionate to how long the average player can actually make that sort of money gold sellers will still exist but they'll be well sort of worthless. They make the bulk of their money in games like DDO and WoW where just the most mundane things or even mounts cost a frigging fortune and they aren't ratioed properly with how long it takes to make that sort of money. |

Script control of a toon is a bannable offense. - Mark Jacobs. I don't think that botting is going to be a problem in WAR. Why do I say this? First let's look at why people bot. 1. To gain levels. 2. To gain money. Well, if you're botting to gain levels in WAR, you're not going to be very successful. First of all, bots won't have a whole lot of success in the diverse Warhammer world. They'll just be grinding away killing monsters. Meanwhile, legit players will be doing public quests, regular quests, scenarios and skirmishes . . . and I believe legit players will likely gain more experience in a 2 hour session than a bot could get in a 12 hour session grinding mobs. Also, take into consideration the way you get skills. You don't just buy them. You earn them! Bots won't be able to do everything it takes to earn new skills. So, people who bot to get to rank 40 quicker will virtually be worthless! Let's not forget the Tome of Knowledge. Mark Jacobs told me that he would like each player's ToK to be displayed on the WAR Herald for everyone to see. If someone is botting, their ToK is going to reflect it for sure. Another point is this. The game is not about personal gain. It's about your guild, alliance and realm. A "bot" guild isn't going to do much in this game. I have heard that money isn't the end all to beat all in this game. It's not about how much you spend. It's about what you earn. By this, I mean your success in public quests etc. That's how you earn the coveted items.

true but some people don't see it that way they just want to get somewhere in the game doing as little personal work possible. I dont think Botting will be a major issue..there will always ALWAYS be bots in a game..but it'll be entertaining to completely ruin a bot's day if they are stupid enough to try and use them in a RvR zone lol. |

Originally posted by elvenangel I think that people will report bots, especially if they are on your side. Let me explain. Let's say you're playing Destruction, and there are like 3 full parties of bots getting owned in an RvR zone. You don't want these bots to be easy fodder for an enemy guild - helping them level their guild up in ranks. By the same token, if there are bots out where you're doing public quests - well, that isn't going to be really popular either! |
