Originally posted by TheGreyMan Because its not the bugs I have issues with. Its not even the massive amounts of loading because they had to zone everything off into instanced-style areas. I actually am fine with that, I liked how GW did it...and feel that it was a good choice in order to make the game run this pretty while still having decent performance. Its the actual direction. I don't need to play anything...I have heard all I needed from the horses mouth himself. Raid gear will be awesomely more powerful than regular gear. PvP gear will be strictly limited in a tier system. Regular gear will suck. In a PvP situation, all players need some form of equal ground. Since PvP gear is going to be so limited...that leaves most of us to raiding to get it. Blizzard tossed the whole "Raid to PvP' thing for a reason. It sucks, players hate it, and it makes no sense as it doesn't reward the player for his preferred style of play...but instead punishes him for it. Couple that with the mini-games (which, while not required, are still GOING to be there) which will divide the potential pool of players available for massive PvP....the game is a stinker for me based entirely on teh direction the devs have stated they are going with. I've already played through this &%&$ before in WoW...and watched WoW suffer through months and years of changes to try and fix such HORRIBLE mistakes. I'm not suffering through it again, and I'm not playing in a Conan world being made by a person who thinks Raiding is super awesome and should always have the top tier loot. I like Raiding, but my time with it is DONE. I want no more of it...and I certainly don't want it shoved down my throat as a gate preventing me from doing the OTHER things I want to do. Then, finally, if I DO get to do it (after spending all this money to upgrade my system for this stupid game)...I'm gonna have to deal with the fact that half of the player base is busy in 'mini-games' and can't answer the siege ticket today. I don't have tons of time to play. I'm married, I work, and I write music and help friends with their comics on the side. Either I log on and do what I want THEN...or I don't log on at all. I quit WoW for similar reasons, and I'll not be bothered to rush back into that very same system with a new pretty skin just because. |

I'll gladly give my honest opinion of AoC: It's a good game so far. My major concern for the game lies in the following: The fact that 95% of the forums is made up of "Will my rig run this game" threads. Fact of the matter is that AoC is a well done game with great graphics, but you'll need a monster rig to run it well. Granted, the launch client will be better than what exists in beta, but even still. I imagine it'll be a few months before they have all the kinks worked out of their engine. I forsee a lot of issues from users come launch time with both crashing, FPS issues and hitching. This wont be a deathknell by any means, but it will turn people off and they may lose a few impatient subscribers. As long as WAR can be mechanically sound in its gameplay, i dont believe they'll have many of the above described issues simply due to the less complex graphics. Then again, some wont enjoy the less complex graphics, thus they wont play WAR (welcome to the world of opinions). Bottomline is play the game you have FUN with. That's what GAMES are for. I'll likely be playing both. |

My good lady, could you spareth a moment of your time to loan me a piece?I needeth to bust some caps. |
Sorry but Aoc doesnt require a monster machine.. you can buy a pc from walmart for 500 dollars that will run AoC on the highest settings if you spend another 2-300 dollars ona 8800GTS. so for 800 dollars (even cheaper if you looked) you could get dx10 fullsettings(minus bloom/AA). where is this monster machine you say you need again?
Most people don't realize that your video card is going to be the main issue when it comes to AoC, if you have a x1300 you could play on medium settings. Trust me, I know :(
FYI, my spec is:
AMD athlon 64 x2 4600 4 gigs pcr4200 ram(CHEAP ram) 512 mb radeon x1300 overlocked.(2-3 year old card..)
guess what? I run on medium settings at around 30-40fps. |

Originally posted by scraca You would be wrong, and for a variety of reasons I won't bother with. Technically, I could actually go back and play WoW with my time frame. I just burned out on it as well...and did not feel like investing more time with it. Back when I first quit, they were REALLY focused on raiding. Arenas hadn't even come out yet. I just can't go back now...something about the game was lost when I spent nearly a year away from it. I can't even stand to level another character in it...and they made it SOO easy to do now.
My wife and I love MMO's...and play them together as a way of spending time with each other. But raids aren't gonna work for us...and we both kinda like PvP quite a bit. Overly 'grindy' games burn us out too fast..because we've already made the grind a few hundred times now (more for me actually...I've been through so many betas and free games that I'm grinded out). MMO's are EXACTLY for me. My wife and I enjoy the social nature of them...and the vast worlds. She likes crafting a good deal too (as proved by our latest game, Perfect World, where she spends WAYY too much time gathering and crafting) and we enjoy meeting new people and enjoy the experience therein. I also have a hard-on for playing support classes now and again and going to noob areas to buff and heal them. I like helping people, and I enjoy the interaction. I just dislike having massive timesinks force fed to me. I also dislike being forced to do content I hate to compete in content I like. I don't think anything I've said is unreasonable here. |

Yes but mmorpgs in a whole are very time consuming. I understand what you mean about WOW i feel the same way and can no longer even log into the game without it making me feel sick. You do fail to realize a few things about AOC. Raiding is only lvl 80. There are no raids before lvl 80. No one says you have to raid. Making WOW more casual is what ruined that game. They have dumbed it down so much its not even fun anymore. If you read more into AOC you will see that the BEST items in game are crafted because you can customize them with gems to make the armor into whatever you need it for, pve/pvp. I think AOC has done a very good job with this aspect of the game. Seriously how stupid is wow when u can afk in battle grounds and do failed pvp teams in arena and get all that pvp gear anyway. WOW became everything i hated. Dont get me wrong i think WOW was a great game and i enjoyed playing it alot. But blizzard realy messed up when they decided to bend to every whim of 10 million people some of whom are trying to change what a mmorpg is. |

Why So Serious? |
WoW was always Casual..then they hired EQ1 devs..and it changed...in essence Blizz screwed up the end game to their own game within the first year...they made it worst with the hacked together glued on PvP. Whats the point of reaching the End Levels of a game if there's nothing to do? Should I say "Oh I got to lvl 80..well time to quit because I don't raid" i'm not going to become some Raid guilds Gear building Home making slave ... I"m not going to pay money for that. Raids don't make you hardcore (Raiding is a playstyle it is not what defines a hardcore player) and avoiding them doesn't make you a casual. When I play a game I play it hardcore I like to dig out every little thing there is in a game but I've never enjoyed raiding I dont enjoy being a lil lemming that may or may not get some peice of loot that drops for 24 people fight over, get screwed out of because the leader is someone's best friend, or someone's random not online alt needs it, or because i refuse to kiss someone's butt cheeks. Raids = the fail atleast for me. Raiders like Raids...for everyone else there's nothing to do at End Game in several Pve based games unless you PvP or Craft and thats double fail. I'll be enjoying WAR's end game when it releases..there's multiple things to do instead of only raid, pvp, faction grind, or craft. |

It will require much more than a 500 dollar PC from Walmart to play AoC even at LOW settings. With dual 8800 GTX's (that's SLI) it still runs like a dog on low settings. I can imagine what it runs like on high on any thing less! Lets hope the new patch today cleans up a lot of issues but anyone saying that you can run AoC on anything remotely less than 8500s and current CPU are just trying to lie to people. |
