ArchLord News - IP Blocking System

Posted by Keith Cross on Apr 11, 2008  | 16 comments in our forums

Codemasters have announced that they have implemented an IP blocking system which will block access to Archlord and RF Online for players in countries not covered by Codemasters.

As part of our on-going commitment to protecting legitimate players, we have now implemented an IP blocking system that prevents players from territories that are not supported by Codemasters from accessing the RF Online and ArchLord games.
Whilst this implementation shouldn't affect bona fide players, there is a small chance that some will be blocked. If you believe you have been blocked in error, please fill out an appeal via our online form at this URL:

http://www.codemasters.co.uk/support/appeals.php

The countries/territories that are not supported and hence affected are: Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Republic of Lao, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.

Not surprise seeing this. They claim that many RMTs were from these countries. I never like codemasters and i hate them even more now.

How in the world did Canada make that list, They support North America but not Canada?

I am glad I don't touch Micro-Transaction/Item Shop games

Yeah, I hope they burn in hell. I'm not from any of those countries but I've been recently banned from 2Moons, from Acclaim, because their business model hasn't reached my country (though 9Dragons has, go figure) and I got so damn pissed! Imagine if the games I love start doing that? The problem is the segregation. When you get used to living in one world through the internet, these things are a slap in the face of people, specially those living in underdeveloped/developing countries (not this case with Codemasters). I didn't like Archlord much and I was thinking of adding RF Online to my list of games to be played but now, definitely not.

This has probably more to do with licensing issues then RMT. If farmers were the issue they would have blocked it long ago. It could very well be possible that other companies are now looking to publish ArchLord and RF online in other regions, or perhaps they have just started to complain about customers moving to codemasters servers for whatever reason.

RF is published here in the Philippines, so I understand that part of the IP block, but Archlord too? Perhaps a SEA region version is in the works?

Luckely I play non of thouse games with my friends in Europe, but its sad when companies does things like this with MMORPGs. Iam from Sweden but live and work in Hong Kong, hence I play most of my games online with friends from USA and Europe.

If the purpose is to block money trade its a bit odd Canada ended up there for sure, but in the end I still think they should at least give the player free choice where to play.

Brings to mind a recent thing that EA did with the co-op game Army of Two, they removed any co-op online between regions, which directly caused a no buy for me and also alot of complain from the gaming community.

This is a stupid way to do business. Most legitimate players from affected areas wont be able to play, while most of the hackers will use proxies to bypass IP blocks.

rotflmmfao....OWNED...It feels good to be on the good side of an ip block for once.  Asia got totally owned and Canada got twice as owned..   All of Asia and then out of nowhere....CANADA..hahah.

For those of us in the military serving overseas, this sucks.

I've been trying every free, micro-payment, item-store game and free trials for MMOs lately looking at all the options. I couldn't play these and I was denied an exception.

Yes because codemasters blocks them because they want to block them.

the amount of stupidity shown by some people on this forum is simply amazing at times.
