I was wondering if anyone had tried this game? I saw that it has perma death and that might be interesting, if anyone has tried it please tell your thoughts on the game.

I've played it. The game is unique, its turn based battle system is unlike anything I've ever seen in MMO and amazingly fun. Also crafting and collecting in the game work well and are fun, and grouping is encouraged by the game mechanics so that many people actually like to group. All the core game mechanics work well and make up a fun game.

But then there's the grind. At the beginning of the game there are quests and things to explore, but after leaving the free to play areas the whole game is a sandbox with huge grind. There are many things to be done: Dungeons (a serie of battles), professions, guilds taxing other players and battling other guilds for right to do that (collector system), complicated profession system, raising pets, breeding mounts, etc. But everything either is a huge grind or requires a huge grind to do, wich turned me off from the game.

But I'd suggest you to try it, the game is incredibly fun before you start getting bored to the grind, and when you get bored you can just quit. And since there is large free to play area it doesn't cost anything to try, the game doesn't have item shop, or at least didn't have when I last played. Also the monthly fee is very low compared to other pay to play games.

And I'd suggest playing on non-perma death server, at least at first, to learn the game.

EDIT: Also, the community in the game is really good. There are some idiots on free to play areas but almost none on pay to play areas /EDIT

If it actually had large free area. It does not, it has beginner island and city + suburbs. Sure, given the grindy nature, it can last a bit and you can walk everywhere (without touching) but labelling it free is very misleading, as misleading as its looks; you will even never have any usefull gear drop as free player. It is shame, I would love to play it on and off as F2P but I guess low monthly fee instead of microtransactions keeps it more fair (strangely I do not have issue "paying but not playing" with EvE).

The grind is another turn off. Well, grind, it actually has one of the most varied combats you will see anywhere, it is not realy as repetitive as the rest, it just feels like grind (that and crafting *is* grind). I wish it was sandbox, but there is not that much to do, it is not really any more sandboxy than EQ and co (well, after playing EvE you will not see sandbox or player economy anywhere else any more).  This game is so oldschool it does not even have propper rewarding quests (so that is one less goal for it being a sandbox).

Than again, this is your classic MMO, it has everything except the 3D visuals so I guess I am just trying to make it fit my first impression instead of treating it like any other MMO.

The Permanent  death is only on 1 of the servers not sure if it's even out yet.

The game is pretty good I must say, 12 unique classes which are all pretty well balanced

A lot of crafting professions to choose from but you can only pick 3, the level cap is 100 (unless you are free to play in that case the level cap is 30) also when you reach level 65 in a professions you can specialize in it.

I love the guild system, most of it is the same as in most games you recruit people give them a rank and so on, but dofus has this horse thing ( perc ) which is part of your guild and as your guild gains levels you can upgrade your perc giving him new spells and abilities and place him somewhere in game. Lets say you put him in a popular hunting place and  when other players fight monsters in that area your perc collects a certain % of money , weapons , armor, resources that the monsters drop, which then can be collected from the perc and shared with the guild. What makes this really fun is that anyone at any time can attack the perc which then the guild has to defend It, If the attacker/s win, all the loot that the perc was carrying is distributed to them. It's a fun thing to do get a few of your guildies and go perc hunting.

The dungeon system is pretty good in my opinion, before you can enter a dungeon you have to acquire a key for it. When you get one you give it to the gate keeper and get teleported to the first room. Dungeons are not instanced so you can go alone and find a team on your way when its too hard to solo. At the last room there is always a boss mob and a group of guards.

Thats all that I can remember about the game, haven't played it in a while

The free to play area is enough to decide if you like the game or not so give it a go the download is pretty small something like 120mb
