EverQuest II News - New Welcome Screen

Posted by Keith Cross on Apr 15, 2009  | 11 comments in our forums

The folks at EverQuest II have announced the addition of a new welcome screen, with better organized information so you don't miss out on the latest updates and events.

We've added a new feature to EQII!

Tired of missing the MOTD that tells you when a Live Event is going to end? Want to know when the next scheduled downtime is going to happen?

The Welcome Screen will now appear each time you log into game! It'll have all the latest updates from downtime to event dates!

The Community section will let you know all the most recent information about events or other things you need to know.

The CS Section will keep you updated on important downtime messages!

Read more here.

This is just blatant adversising for the TCG and Station Cash. Sure there is other stuff on there but its just a cover up for pushing the other two.  The screen is ugly and unwanted by EVERY player I know that has encountered it.  By the end of the day I bet UI designers like Prophet UI will have found a way to block that nasty intrusion they pass off as a welcome screen..its not welcoming anyone.

And, out come the tin foil hats.. could set my watch by it. Everything is a conspiracy instead of just a business model in an tough economy. Last I checked, SC was still optional. The new Welcome Screen doesn't force one to buy anything and is dismissed with a single mouse click.

Posting and complaining about something that is nothing more than annoyance to you, takes 2,000,000 x more time and effort than simply pressing the "Close" button in game.

Last I checked people didn't ask for station cash, rmt and loot cards to be put into the game.  That takes 2,000,000 times more effort than reducing the developement cycle on expansions for the game as soe has done, but hey the developer time needed to create all this junk has to come from somewhere right?

The poster above you is right, the new screen is nothing more than an ingame advertisment for all the add on virtual sales for soe.

take my posting however you want...i know of not a single player whom likes the new welcome screen and i know of a few entire guilds getting together to send SOE their thoughts on it.  They all know SOE dont really give two shakes for what their players want, but who knows..maybe after a few thousand complaints...pigs will fly and SOE will pull this craptacular addtion

I always wonder why these discussion sites always post these announcements verbatim without taking them to task what they are really doing.

Welcome screen my butt, it is just an advertisement for their additional game products, period.

Pretty sad they go along with a description when it is obvious to anyone what it really is.

Even I'm not pleased with it, but didn't take me long to figure out how to disable it and share the knowledge :)

The easiest way is to siimply type the following once in game: /cl_show_welcome_screen_on_startup 0

If i was still playing EQ2 the new welcome screen wouldn't really bother me, cause all it would take is one mouse click to close it. But having the ad for the TCG and SC .... eh not that important for to rant about.

SOE bring back /gems PLEASE!!!!!!

You suggest that a poster is delusional for saying the "welcome screen" is just an advertisement, then turn around and admit yourself that it's just an advertisement?  I don't know what's wrong with you, but I'm sure it's nothing a bit of shock treatment can't cure.

well its no worse than the way they used to advertise for the next expansion a few years ago in EQ. Next thing you know SOE will hire that creepy sham-wow guy to sell us game enhancements.
