Hello all, I'm getting a (very much needed) new computer in a couple weeks. while I wait for EQ Next. I played EQ2 for a little while like 2 years ago and really enjoyed it but my comp just couldnt handle it on any kind of setting but bare minimum. Anyway, I want to come back to EQ2 and I'm wondering if there is a low level population since it went F2P? I realize the game is 6 years old and its gonna be top-heavy but I just don't have an interest in any other MMO's right now. Or can someone point me in the direction of a server that is more noob friendly? I just want to feel like I'm not playing in an empty world by myself. Maybe get a couple groups now an then. I'm not looking for packed low level content. Also, could anyone tell me a few classes that can solo pretty well? I have a horrible habit of picking classes that definitely cant solo and I dont want my game time to be spent LFG. And to start I'm probably going to be doing the silver membership to see if i get hooked. So Are one of these classes able to solo? Berserker, Guardian, Warlock, Wizard, Brigand, Swashbuckler, Templar and Inquisitor. Thanks in advance guys, I hope you're all having a good time in Norrath! |

I stopped playing before Christmas, there were still a few people around, but I was in a guild that I had known for years, making it easier to get group runs going. Its very top heavy and theres not much new blood. Most high level players will just powerlevel new characters. With gear the way it is at the moment, there is no need to group up to complete any content below max level, especially as a tank or healer - because you can solo all the heroic dungeons and content. Theres a lot of content to see in EQ2, but unless you find a bunch of other new players youll be seeing it by yourself. Players will expect a lot from you at the top end too, so it isnt really new player friendly I would say. Antonia Bayle is the most populated server and probably the most tolerant of newbies since they are role-players, if you can put up with that crap. If you want a well balanced class that is good for soloing I would probably recommend a Mystic, they are in my opinion the most powerful healer and provide a great mix of DPS and healing. I could solo older raid zones as my Mystic. Also they are in high demand at max level, as opposed to DPS, and there are heaps of SKs around to tank for you. Alternatively an enchanter, who are equally easy to play and highly desirable at max level. Bards are also desirable, but harder to solo as. And of course theres the new Beastlord class which is fun and stupidly overpowered, but every man and his dog is playing one at the moment. |

Freeport server is busy with many players at low levels
the Freeport server is not top heavy like AB (the server is only 18 months old) |

If you are going to play without subscribing, getting Silver is definately worthwhile. The difference in bank space isn't much, but the bag slot difference is, and you can buy stuff on the broker. I haven't had much trouble soloing a Berserker (up to 42 now), except on a few tough quests and locations; greens can be quite deadly when they are all heroic and mob you. Even if you plan to keep playing for free, buying Age of Discovery can be a good idea, not for the Beastlord class but for the mercenaries. Since hiring a Troubadour as DPS to complement my Berserker, I think that character has died only once and finally finished some quests that had gone gray but were STILL killing me. |

Thanks for the posts guys. I'm justing looking for an MMO like EQ right now. Im not into the fast paced slay everything games like Rift of SWTOR. I want a game that has challenges and a good community. The servers being top-heavy is what I'm afraid of. If its not too bad I may stick it out. But I will give it a go with f2p since theres no real risk. With silver you can just purchase what you want like classes/races/bag slots and such? And can you hire any class as a mercenary? I remember when EQ1 brought them in it was just either cleric or warrior. |

as mentioned earlier, Freeport server is not top heavy, its the youngest server
mercs require that you buy the expansion, age of discovery
mercs that are available http://eq2wire.com/2012/01/12/gninja-talks-new-and-old-mercenaries-mechanics/
That leaves just Beastlord, Bruiser, Fury, Coercer, and Illusionist with no mercenary. |
