6:38pm: EverQuest II. The Age's End prophecy has been going on for years. I'm not allowed to give details or spoilers. "Something really bad is going to happen in Cobalt Scar" This will be some of the coolest stuff we've put in the game for a long time. It will be setting us up for the next expansion which we'll be talking about SOE Live.

6:39pm: We've had a lot of Alternate Advancements for a long time. So when someone wants to Respec or come back to the game, they have to respec 320 points across all these different trees. This takes a lot of investigation. We're creating Character Advancement Templates which allows you to preselect what your character is like, and have it spend the points for you. It will also show you where it will spend the points for you.

6:40pm: You will now be able to store up to 3 Alternate Advancement profiles in-game, and also save as many AA setups on your hard drive as you want, and share them with friends.

Note: EQ2U will support this on day one.

http://eq2wire.com/2013/06/13/gu67-saved-aa-profiles-character-aa-templates/

If you haven't read last night's EverQuest "What's Next" Show transcript, then you missed out on a number of announcements for EQ2's as-yet-unannounced Game Update 67.

Two items of note:

Character Advancement Templates -- For players who don't want to spend 320 AA points one-at-a-time, there will be certain templates which are recommended AA setups for each class. You can click a button and have it spend the points for you, and if you don't have enough points to get everything suggested by the template, it will remember and keep those AA bubbles highlighted.

Alternate Advancement Profiles -- You will now be able to store up to 3 Alternate Advancement setups or "profiles" on your character and access them anywhere. No more kludgy AA mirrors. You will also be able to load/save your AA setup to an XML file.

EQ2U intends to support AA Profiles on day one, as well as offer the ability to export a character's AA setup from EQ2U as an XML file which you can then import into your own character!

The AA template/profile stuff is neat.

Overall this seems a pretty small update though (although fabled djinn master's prism could be epic).   But the storyline could be leading to something awesome.

Producer Letter on UK site

http://everquest2.co.uk/news/producers-letter-gu67

Here are some of the features we have lined up for Darkness Dawns!

1. Fabled dungeons: We've taken some dungeon favorites from the very first EQII expansion “Desert of Flames” and created additional versions of them with current high-level content and loot. You can experience Clefts of Rujark, The Djinn Masters Prism, Scornfeather’s Roost, and Pedestal of Sky at a high level range!

2. Character Advancement Templates (CATs): With the vast amount of points to spend on Adventure and Tradeskill Alternate Advancement and Prestige Abilities, it can be very tedious to spend all your points and decide the best way to specialize your character. We have a great new feature to solve all that!

With Character Advancement Templates players can select fully completed character builds that will spend advancement and ability points as they are earned with a scrollbar that shows how all past and future points are allocated. Each character will have access to pre-built templates from us that can be exchanged and rebuilt at will with no need to pay any re-specialization fees. The player can also save three custom templates on our servers to be used anytime, anywhere the player logs in. Not only that, players can save unlimited builds locally to upload and share. Changing templates requires a cast time and for the player to be out of combat. The data format (xml) of the templates will be made available soon for fansites and players who may want to start tinkering with CATs in advance. (Meow.)

3. Three New Contested Avatar Raids: Pit yourself against three new contested avatars in the overlands – Prexus, Solusek Ro, and Drinal!

4. Arena of the Gods: The Arena of the Gods is a raid instance that allows 24 players to challenge any of the 9 avatars that are in game (includes the new contested avatars released in this GU). Once you kill an avatar and are rewarded, you can continue to practice the encounters as much as you want (there is a 3-day lockout timer for rewards).

The loot from the arena avatars is not as powerful as loot found on contested avatars, but worth getting. The arena avatars are the identical avatar fights from the overland zones so you can train your raid force for the real deal!

5. Tradeskill & PvP: We’ve got new high-end tradeskill apprentice goodies and new PvP rewards too.

I’m so proud of this team! They give their all to bring you new content at this unprecedented pace of updates. We are working on a few things for SOE Live too and will have some cool expansion and feature announcements and previews. We’re putting some final touches on the heroic Dreadcutter tournament zone right now too that will be a lot of fun with a prize pool of $10,500! Join us for SOE Live: www.soe.com/soelive.

And finally, on June 21, we’ll be starting our Summer Gold Rush promotion. Until Sept. 21, existing and new Gold members will get access to a 4-hour daily spell (in your spell books or in an available hotbar slot) that gives you +15% Coin Loot, +10% Experience, and +5% Mount Speed while it’s active!

We will be talking a lot more about Darkness Dawns and SOE Live over the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more details.

See you in game!

Now, if you are smart, you can read between the lines.  What they are doing is trying out things in EQ 2 that they might want to try out in EQ Next.  Why wait, get a head start and implement some EQ Next things and see how the players react.

Also, EQ2 (if I remember) already has an AA system in place where you switch a profile.  I think it is an AA Mirror or something you create with tradeskills.  I seem to remember they added something like that a few years back.  Maybe it is outdated or the components were pretty rare to get.

Hmm are these fabled dungeons for a full group or are they scaleable?

the AA mirror only lets you switch between 2 builds

this forthcoming change:

players can save unlimited builds locally to upload and share.

SoE seems to enjoy reusing old content, in EQ2 that is. In their latest expansion, they released "revamped" versions of The Ferrott and The Loping Planes and figured that would be ok. I guess for some people it is, but for a veteran like me, I found it to be pretty unimaginative and lazy. Now, I see they're planning to do it again with higher level versions of old DoF zones. Lets hope SoE's creative minds were moved to EQ Next, but it seems like EQ2 is lacking some serious developmental resources.

indoor “Arena of the Gods” featuring instanced versions of the nine Avatars which have been roaming Norrath since Avatars returned as contested content.

These avatars will be of the same difficulty as the open world equivalents, but provide rewards of a reduced quality. Presumably you’ll only be able to defeat one avatar per trip, although it would certainly be amusing if you could do all of them on one visit.

Very good move - nothing worse than patching a big change 3 days before 90% of your dev staff is out of state at a convention :P

Least this will give some time to hit those really nasty post patch 'wtfs?!' with fixes before SOE Live.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Feldon also posted that EQ2 Player testing will be happening at SOE LIVE

http://eq2wire.com/2013/07/02/everquest-ii-super-secret-testing-feedback-panels-on-fri-sat-and-sun/

<div clearfix"="">

There have been some changes to the SOE Live 2013 schedule, including some reshuffling of LoN, DCUO, and Dragon’s Prophet panels. Most notably, the addition of 3 new panels:

  • Friday 5-6pm – EverQuest II: Super Secret Testing Session 1
  • Saturday 5-6pm – EverQuest II: Super Secret Testing
  • Sunday Noon-1pm — EverQuest II: Super Secret Testing Feedback Panel

I’ve got no idea what these will be!

would be nice if they made the AA mirror useful in some other way. A Lot of us spent time, effort and money to get those ad now they are just obsolete and the make ugly plain house decorations
