I for one am not much of a roleplayer and even I thought it was cool. It is a great addition to the tools in an mmo for fun player to player interactions. I salute SOE for their innovation yet again. |

Originally posted by Istavaan Well innovative in that they've bothere to add it but I don't see it being used, how many here know that WoW for example has built in voice chat? it's had it for ages but no one uses it as they prefer their teamspeak etc, this system will only work if people use the built in voice chat in EQ2, thats the stumbling block and probably the reason why it's not been done before in other games. Not to put SOE down, it's great they're adding it but will it realy be used that much once the novely runs out and every one goes back to their teamspeak?

I'll be using it. In fact, I was looking at webcams because of it yesterday. I like to RP in games, I think this will add a lot to that. It'll make having a character in game more interactive and that's never a bad thing! At the end of the day, most people in EQ2 have figured out that we've become the test dummies for EQNext. This webcam integration is something that they talked about doing (without going into any detail or specifics at all) for EQNext. When it popped up the other day as being SJ's (and yes, my husband and I also thought he was creepy as crap in that video) 'big announcement', I wasn't surprised at all. While I love EQ2, play the crap out of it too, I still feel like they really should have a larger team working to fix the bugs and the itemization issues they have going on. I know that there are several departments, so I'll never say, "They should have been working on bug squashing instead!" but I wish there was more of a FOCUS on that, rather than the fluff/SC items they keep rolling out. They seem to be able to put out new marketplace items weekly, but can't seem to squash many bugs... |

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

Originally posted by tixylix LOL.. It's amazing the people who are saying sweet, cool, inovative. It will not get used, like most everytrhing SoE adds, and will get swept under the rug. Read their offical forums and look at the amount of threads with problems that go ignored, but hey, there's weekly marketplace items added. Arena broken pvp shader 3.0 Dungeon finder Dungeon decorating Frozen Tundra (lol) Raid gear from 2 minute go here then back quest Battlegrounds War Fields Broken raids, etc. SoE has a reputation, there's a reason why.

it is naive to think that the voices on the forums are even a fraction of the user base. The majority of the Users dont use the forums, and The forums are not indicative of their opinions even in a percentage type format. It will be adopted slowly and become another nice way to have interaction in an MMO world. |

due next week, Aug 7th http://eq2wire.com/2012/08/02/august-update-plans-soemote-and-ethereal-weapons/ SOEmote Your Way -Auto-Enable SOEmote with Webcam. To start with, we wanted the feature to be easy to use. If you have a camera set up, SOEmote will automatically send you a message to enable the feature and options when you log in. After that, when you log in with a webcam, you will be reminded that the feature is active. -SOEmote Group Window: Included by default if you set up SOEmote, you can easily watch group members’ faces next to their names in the user interface. -Mini-Chat Bar Additions: We integrated SOEmote buttons into the mini-voice chat bar under the chat window for easy use and access. -Mirror Me: As we’ve been using SOEmote in the studio a lot, we wanted a quick and intuitive way to be able to see ourselves (because it’s fun) and also to ensure SOEmote is calibrated without having to use the large set-up window view. With this addition, you see a small version of yourself with a quick Calibration button to set the default facial tracking position for those times when you leave your PC and return. TIP: When calibrating, make sure your own face is in a neutral position with no smile, eyes open and no expression. You get the best results this way! - Voice Chat/SOEmote Options: We took some time to work on the usability of the existing voice chat controls as we integrated the SOEmote options. It seemed natural for us to pair voice chat and SOEmote options together. - Local Proximity Chat in Guild Halls and Houses. With SOEmote or Voice Chat activated you’ll have the option to join a Local Channel so you can listen and talk based on your location just like walking and chatting into a room in real life. - Voice Fonts. We added a selection of voice fonts for male and female voices for you to experiment with in the main SOEmote set-up options. You will find the voice font selections in a drop-down list. We also added an option to record and play back your voice so you can hear how it sounds with a font. - FAQ. We wanted to add a fairly deep FAQ for SOEmote to help users with common questions. We can tell you now that if you are experiencing issues with tracking your facial movements, try increasing your lighting! And if that fails, you might want a better camera. We list the camera we use in the FAQ and link to an offer for good cameras. We are really excited to have the community jump in and use SOEmote. As we’ve always said, with EQII as a role-playing game, we want to support players who want to become their characters! With our partners with SOEmote, Image Metrics and Vivox, we really hope you enjoy it and build incredible experiences from it. More than anything, we want to see all the creative ways that you, our imaginative players, use it. Look for a contest soon asking you to submit your own SOEmote videos through our in-game YouTube feature!

Ive had my fair share of head clashing with SoE over the 10+ years I played EQ and EQ2. And in the ingame chat SoE is made out to be the bastard boss everyone wanna stick it to. But in the end theres no other company except blizzard that have been close to the succes SoE have had in the mmorpg community in terms of scooping in dollars. And theres a reason for that.. |

seems like more games will be getting this
It's all possible with the phenomenal new feature called SOEmote™ that truly does put your facial expressions on your game avatar in real time! With this technology you can alter your voice so you become a real troll, ogre, ratonga, or whatever you choose. EverQuest II players will have this revolutionary feature. Other games in the SOE portfolio will soon follow.EQNext press http://EQ3Wire.com EQ2: Freeport server |
