So my girlfriend plays this game and I drop in occassionally to horse around. The attitude of the community, especially towards new players is horrible. The Antonia Bayle server is where we chiefly play. If you try to ask a simple question, you get a smart ass comment. Just today she was grouping with some level 70's on her low level alt and they were farming the void storms. These assholes wouldn't even mentor her so she could get xp. Oddly enough they were in the guild Virtue which advertises themselves to be a new player friendly guild. it's this sort of elitist attitude that will ultimately cause players to leave. As a point of contrast, the community in City of Heroes is great. No problem finding groups, everyone is helpful. I guess you just have long time players that think this is "their" game and don't want others to piss in their cheerios. But the established community should welcome new players and help them out a little. It makes a positive impression on the game and will only keep more coming in. As it stands now the EQ2 community is a bunch of pricks.

I know the guys in Virtue..I have a feeling that by "horsing around" you mean acting like a typical asshat Troll. Iv'e seen a lot of new players join virtue and not have any problems...then again they don't have a lot of patience for idiots that want to see how much attention they can get or players that just want to use their guild to PL their toon, there guild is like my guild it gives back what the individual puts into it.

*blinks* you didn't. Only the pin means its a sticky, the burning paper means its a popular thread. I thought that would be obvious.

No, by horsing around I mean I don't play the game all that regularly. When I do play I just do a couple of quests and maybe craft a little bit. Your little buddies in Virtue suck. Why would you invite someone to a group and then not mentor them so they can get xp? Also the majority of people that invite others to groups don't even share loot or set the new group members in the lottery.

Use their guild to power level their toon? They invited her. So screw you and your Virtuous asshat buddies.

I disagree with the OP on this. I just started playing this game again and the people on that server were very helpful. Now this was prior to the free play. And that's the problem there. Lot's of  "free" players trying to screw it up.

Look who's calling name ?  You call them assholes, i stop reading right there.  I played EQ2 for about a year last year and never had any of the problem you describe, it seems you expect everyone to do your biddings, it wont happen.  I would'nt help you either with that attitude.

Every MMO has some assholes... just like every animal has one... You cant just put a sign up and say no ass holes allowed... ass holes generally dont think there ass holes... others like being ass holes...

EQII community from my own experience is the most grown up and helpful i have come across.. but then i played CoH for 4 hours and found no one would help me.... doesnt make the community crap... just means that in my short time i didnt meet the nice people who make up for all the ass holes we are always going to encounter...

Absolutely true. How about the OP take some time and effort in finding a nice guild?

I am on Splitpaw and there we have 2 elitsh guilds as well. And you know what. The majority just ignores them ;) Really simple.

The rest of the players are very friendly, mature and always willing to help!

I am in a fantastic guild, I am only level44 while most of the others are level80. But they have several lower level Alts they are happy to login for me to help me out whenever possible or they just mentor down for me.

It is really not that bad as the OP is saying! Not at all.

Elitish assholes are in every MMO! The key to that is to just put them on ignore ;) Really that simple.

Cheers

.... hey, you need to say something if they're being stupid like that. I've never had that problem so I don't know who you're associating with. Stop being insulting. If you're acting this way with others, then its no wonder you get treated the way you do.

If the group in question had mentored, their quest still would have remained level 70 and the spawned mob would have also been level 70 and they would not have been able to kill it mentored.  At least that is what I have heard is happening per posts on the official forums.  I think they thought they were doing a nice thing by inviting her.  The point of the quest is to quickly gather the items needed so you can purchase some goodies, not so much for experience.

Although I can't speak for Antonia Bayle, I've heard lots of good things.  Being the most populated server, however,  you're bound to run into bad eggs here and there.  I'm on Lucan D'Lere and I think they have a wonderful community, one of the best in the MMO's I've tried to date.

I'm not name calling anyone, I'm making a true statement. If someone is being an asshole then that's what they are. No name calling required. The point of my post is not to label the entire community. It is to call out those players, and there are quite a few of them, that have this elitist attitude. It tends to be more common with a lot of the so called "veterans". As if the world owes them something just because they played since launch. And the "attitude" that you are refering to, this is not an attitude that is expressed in game. It is a reaction from my observations of the game. I was just on a few minutes ago and two level 20 characters said they were looking for a group. The reply they got was "You are a group" How shitty is that?

As the thread title says. It's not the entire community that is elitist. But the elitist community that does exist will be the downfall of the game.
