Not a retired MMORPG.com mod

Seems like everyone is leaving EQ2 to play Age of Conan. Is anyone staying?

While I don't play Everquest 2 anymore I won't be touching Age of Conan until it's been out for a few weeks to a few months. There is no guarantee how well the game will be or run.

I seriously doubt that. Must be just the people YOU know.

Of course people are leaving. Once you've leveled more then one character to 70 what else are supposed to do? The game has been out for a while now, some people will be coming back, some won't. There will probably be a small population spike next November when the next expansion comes out.

I doubt very many EQ2 players are even remotely interested in AoC, the game styles are completely different.  Those that do give AoC a look will be running back home pretty quick, it doesn’t have much to offer an MMO veteran.  The only chance I see AoC having is picking up a big console crow where there isn’t much in the way of MMO competition.

My informal polling of the EQ2 crowd is that there is interest in AoC from most of the people who I talk to. If it translates to people leaving is unknown. The same is probably true about WAR when it comes out too.

Well, can't say for EQ2, but a friend of mine just quit playing on the classic servers in DAOC because he said in the last few weeks they've become a ghost town.

In my own case, I'm currently playing EVE, but decided to relocate all my assets/characters to safe empire stations and will go on a summer hiatus to play AOC.

Your results may vary, but expect AOC to draw players from all games.

If your friends were deep EQ fans...then don't worry.  They'll be back, and quickly.  AoC is way too new to hold players that are used to as much content as they were getting here.  I figure AoC will see most of its players handed off from either WoW or Vanguard...people who wanted little more than a pretty game and can't get one.

People tend to go to EQ for substance, more lengthy and group oriented stuff.  Two different mindsets entirely, trust me.  No matter how AoC turns out, its not gonna have as much content for that crowd...and its not likely to draw them in as easily either.

The great thing about AoC if you can get through all of the forum misinformation from both sides of the arguements, is that they do infact pump out updates and fixes, and very good ones at that. Funcom at one point said it would take 6 months of PvE content to down the final endboss for guilds, I like to think that by month 5 someone will be at whatever this endboss is and by that point I'm sure they'll have atleast announced an endgame content update.

I said that to show that AoC is in a very good position for holding long-term players from going back to their old games. Of course after a year or two they'll start spreading back to their old games but it wont be the same by then. I can't speak much for EQ, especially EQ2. In EQ2 the graphics were medium and the communities either at lower levels or supporting lower-mid levels were fairly nonexistant from my time spent. EQ was pretty fun and the graphics were pretty decent for the time, although when EQ first came out I was headfirst into UO from the beginning, so when I did make it to EQ I got halfway up in levels and eventually lost interest between questing by myself, only being able to find guilds if i made a new character, trains, and the doom of all that rocked.. the auction house area..... that sucked up a lot of players.. and lag.. even if most would've been logged off had there not been an auction house to leave your character standing in all day, I still would've perceived it as sucking up all the players and killing the midlevel magic lol, besides the open dungeons were nice but farming one spot, or any spot, really sucked.

I don't know how many people AoC will take from EQ2 but I do know that as far as MMO subscriptions go, EQ2 is pretty high on the list, however the actual numbers taken could be a sizable percent of the current EQ2 players.

Best of luck to you EQ2 players. As for myself, I will be on AoC the 17th.

How can you soar with eagles, when you work with turkeys.

MMO Players always gravitate towards the latest release, they don't always stay with it though.  A certain percentage usually flock back to their previous games.

As with any new launch, there will be a bunch of people who want to check it out.  Since information about the betas has slowly made its way out I've been hearing about people going to try it out less and less...  I think you'll still have plenty of people to group with if you stay behind.
