"Our only enemy is our own ego."

I say give this game a try, ive played it since the release day (short 2 month break in the middle to try WoW xP) and it is by far one of the best MMO's your gonna find (yes thats just opinion please no flaming)

Only thing that meeds polishing is a few animations, fighting animations could use alot of work too, but when it comes to quest depth, story depth, and overall world size, the everquest series has it all!

I hope everyone tries this game in their MMO lifetime ^_^

Theres plenty wrong with EQ2,bugs galore if you look for them or wait they'll find you :),but even that and yes the dreadful ROK expansion its still the best MMO on the market at this moment in time

"Our only enemy is our own ego."

Im gonna recognise your extremely high status and rank and thank you for posting in my topic =)

The bugs mostly come with the graphics they employ, the system just isn't as polished as other graphics systems. I have not seen any other bugs un-related to graphics in my time of playing.

And I totally agree with you on the RoK expansion, although i do love my new illusion toy you get with the retail box (looks fantastic on my monkey!) the new race could have been better picked and i wanted to see the planes returned =(, i guess they are going to same way of EQ1 with the expansions.

I would not say there is plenty wrong with EQ2. There are things wrong but not plenty. I been playing since beta and EQ2 is not that buggy. Not sure what your comment wait for them they will find you really refers to. The few bugs I have encounters are minimal in their effect. Also the last patch really stepped up performance,

As for the dreadful ROK not sure what you mean about that either. Again it has it problems but I have enjoyed it a lot.

The quality of EQ2 speaks for itself when someone who find a lot of flaws with it still thinks it is one of the best mmos out.

There is a great deal about eq2 that could appeal to a vast audience. However, the game world itself is far too small in order to give the three core playstyles enough meat to be pleased. (solo-group-raid)

The groupers tend to be upset that they have run out of areas to do, the raiders say much the same all the while they both seem to agree that the soloers are given far too much real estate.

When i compare land mass in eq1 to eq2, expansion for expansion, it does seem that SoE has done a pretty bad job of making the most of the space that players have access to. Overland zones that are considered big, yet hold zero appeal to group/raid types, dungeons that are too few in number and lack itemization according to many.

I myself am a career soloer from both eq1 and eq2, with some moderate grouping time. I can personally say that i enjoyed what i was given in rok, but felt that it was too easy to get to the top, all the while not feeling any sense of accomplishment with what i had done.

In all of the games i have played, i've never ever made level cap. I am just slow. I got to level cap 2 weeks into the expansion (from 70-80) and it puzzled me.

Others may disagree with me about world size, but eq2 is tiny.  Raid zones aside, i have seen and done every area of the game. What i am currently faced with is a lack of desire to bring an alt through the same content. Never been the case with me before. The replay value seems quite lacking.

Perhaps i think the driving force behind that opinion is that leveling is primarily quest exp style instead of traditional grind style. With questing, the first time through is ok for most, but then the realization comes to play where you just don't want to do it all over again.

Grinding isn't much of an option, because it is tedious compared to eq1 grinding.

Eq2 had and perhaps has much potential. The scary thing to me is seeing the rats leaving the sinking ship for 38 studios. A strong company with a strong team doesn't lose its employees in this fashion. Perhaps people are getting fed up with the way soe stretches their resources extremely thin by operating far too many mmo's under their station pass plan.

Anyway, sorry for the long winded rant. Do try eq2. I am sure it will be fun the first time through, but at the end of the road, don't look for a fantastic replay on an alt and be prepared for nothing to look forward to on a main.

ROK imo is dire..i've said it from the off its just a solo based questathon and i'm sorry to me that makes it very poor, let alone the myriad of bugs it brought into the game..to me its the worst xpac so far for EQ2.

Having played solid for over 3 years now i've come across many, many bugs thankfully not many game breaking but stuff that makes the game feel a bit unpolished,i was wary of bruce taking over as producer but so ffar i've been impressed with what he's trying to address.

I'm no johnny come lately to EQ2 i've seen the good times and hell the bad times and for me at least its the best MMO out there..check my posts i say it all the time, what i wont do is ignore the problems that are there i protest on the official forums about stuff i find and /bug stuff when i come across it,ROK was way undercooked simple as that it looks nice but its boring as hell, many of the issues i saw in beta are still there sadly (mobs dropping through the floor etc too many to mention really) these are simple flaws that should have sorted by now.

I love the game and as i say tell everyone that but i refuse to bury my head in the ground about its flaws.

I've only recently started playing this game and I have to say that I think it's great. It took me a few characters to get a style that I really liked... 4 characters each to around lvl 25 (there's no real help in deciding that at the start of the game) yet now I'm happy with what I am and I'm looking forward to exploring the world.

Let me be clear, I've never liked this sort of game before, the whole fantasy world stuff gets to me normally, yet I'm firmly sticking with EQII

I feel the same way. EQ2 in not a typical fantasy type setting. Even thought it has many of those elements it does not feel that way. It is funny but even without vehicles, and it's more fantasy type weapons, sometimes I feel like I am playing in some future world.

"As you think, so shall you become"

I think the issue with the graphics is not the quality of the engine its self, but the almost washed out effect it has. There are no bright and vibrant colors.

"It always funny until someone gets hurt... and then it's just hilarious." -- Faith no More

Game itself is great. BUT... as the world waxes bigger and bigger, the player base wanes. So most of the time on most servers you will be hard pressed to find a lot of player activity. The busiest places -not counting brokers- are the dungeons, but even those mostly attract alts these days who just breeze through them.

I was a huge everquest fan, so huge in fact that I bought my play time by the year.

I built my current computer (which I just now am having updated) to double the original posted requirements of EQ2 years before it was actually released.

And it could be the greatest game of all time, built and designed by the MMO gods themselves, but now I can never play it because it is a sony game.  And I would always be too worried that sometime the designers would come along and waste the game that I had spent so much time in.  I can no longer play games by SOE without feeling a constant sense of dread mixed with (ironically) lack of caring and commitment.

And I liked playing it.
