I intend to live forever - So far so good!

Hello !

I am new to EQ II world and i have some questions.

1. What is the most used class?

2. What is the less used class?

Thats because i don't like to make most used character in the game.

I really like Necromancer and Assasin. What do you think about this classes?

Any opinions?

Necro is highly used on the PvE servers ...specifically RP servers...due to high ratio of kills..

Least played classes are Pallys, Coercer (which does crowd control) and any of the Bard Classes...as the Bard classes are 100% grouping..(like Dirge)...and EQ2 really is a strong solo based game...

Try one of the above for some extra fun...solo or grouped.

you can find out how many of which class exist on which server by doing right searches on eq2players. Its not totally accurate cause players can select your charcters not to apear in these lists but i guess it gives you a general overview of class balance.

aabout 2 months ago i made a basic statistic for my server (runnyeye) and tahts what i found out:

classes sorted by amount of lvl 80s of this class on my server:

  1. necromancer 97
  2. fury 90
  3. wizard 82
  4. templar 76
  5. conjurer 68
  6. dirge 65
  7. warden 63
  8. guardian 63
  9. brigand 61
  10. ranger 57
  11. swashbuckler 56
  12. berserker 55
  13. illusionist 53
  14. assasin 53
  15. warlock 51
  16. paladin 49
  17. shadowkinght 48
  18. monk 48
  19. mystic 47
  20. defiler 47
  21. inquisitor 45
  22. troubadour 41
  23. bruiser 41
  24. coercer 40

but if you look at all charcters over all levels the balance is quite different

  1. wizard 9831
  2. berserker 7740
  3. necromancer 6692
  4. shadowknight 6016
  5. guardian 5872
  6. paladin 5751
  7. ranger 5699
  8. fury 5512
  9. conjurer 5422
  10. monk 5324
  11. warlock 5266
  12. assassin 4438
  13. warden 4433
  14. swashbuckler 3498
  15. bruiser 3392
  16. templar 3375
  17. illusionist 2866
  18. dirge 2855
  19. troubadour 2508
  20. mystic 2476
  21. inquisitor 2459
  22. defiler 2299
  23. coercer 2083
  24. brigand 2011

you can see very good which classes are often on the wish lists of raidguilds. many of tehse classes are low ranking on overall list but got a much higher % of teh lvl 80 population.

DEATH IN FIRE

Hi there. Very glad to see you chose to try out EQ2. :D It's great isn't it. :) Anyway  im still quite new to EQ2, so im know genious on the game. Im guessing that the bard classes would be some of the least popular classes. I just recently thought I'd try out the bard class for the first time ever in any RPG, and I love it. Have not used him a whole lot yet, but during the time I have I have not yet seen any other of the same class hehe. In any case im just gonna say, you should go the class you think sounds the coolest and most appealing to you, obviously. I mean, that's probably how you will get the most enjoyment out of the game. Choice is yours buddy, and fortunately in EQ2 there are ALOT of choices.

i am currently playing mainly a dirge, (i was one of the 42 inqs in my list before) but my guild has enough healers and we were in big need of a dirge so i picked up my old lvl 35 dirge and leveld him to 80 and now i'm raiding with him most time.

So if you are interested in playing a bard then you have to understand first that the main thing in eq2 that bards do is make other people shine, a dirge is speciallised in buffing melee dps and tank defenses, while a troub is bettwr for buffing casters. They get more and more group buffs over the levels and while at start you can use all of them at same time, with time you will have to make more and more choices to select which of your buffs you should run for the next fight.

The main problem with that is that you alone are a bit weak when soloing, yes you got nice buffs but with these alone cannot completely make up that you don't get stances and you cannot use poisons like other scouts. Also bards have spells and melee attacks so you need both stats for casters and melee. This all explains why bards are not that easy to solo.

But its very doable, i soloed a lot on my way from 35-80, You just have to look more on your equip than most other scout classes also you should select achievements that help you soloing during the leveling up (you can still change them later on when you end up grouping more, and definitely should respec before you start raiding anyway).

Overall i found my dirge a fun class to play and there is a really big need for bards in endgame cause  only bard buffs allow them to get the max out of their raidsetup.

if you look at mages you have 6 classes to choose from, so it depedns what you want most.

if you want big direct damage spells then you have to choose wizard or warlock. wiz is a bit more single target oriented while warlocks are the kings of area damage. for soloing both classes have to rely mainly on rooting the enemies to keep them at a distance.

If you want fully controllable pets  then necromancer or conjurer are the right thing. both get a selection of 3 mainptes (tank, melee dps, magic dps) spells to heal pet, some limited (dumbfire pets)... Necromancer has a bit more dps, conjurer a bit more utility but they are quite good balanced.

if you are looking for utility in a mage clas then the enchanters (illusionist and coercer) have most. They are the masters of crowd controll with mezzes, stuns, stiffles, dazes, roots..., they also have some good buffs and illusionist is also doing quite good dps, coercer was lacking a bit in dps but they are getting revamped atm so not sure where they will stand dps wise after next patch. Illusionists also get a pet thats a illusion of them, coercers can charm enemies to keep them as pets (some of these pets have excellent damageoutput and help them solo very good, but they can break free at any time so that comes with a high risk)

I disagree with that statement.  I have been playing a conj since game launch and I am rarely rarely outparsed by a necro.  In my guild, I am easily in the top 3 or 4 every fight and have never been even close to being outparsed by a necro in a raid.  I think necros have better utility though; conjs get a coth, but necros get rez.

OP, everyone is going to say to join their server.  I am on Butcherblock and it is a great community.  If you want a high population server and don't mind being on a RP server, join Antonia Bayle.

i dpn't play either necro or conj, but in my experience necros were doing a bit betetr than conj. but its hard to compare if you don't have a total equal playfield (like same amount of masters, same qualiyt of equip)..

anyway both classes can do quite good dps if the players know their class, and as i said before they are quite good balanced.
