This is not a valid comment anymore since Kunark has come out. They have added new armor sets and appearance armor. You have equiped armor which has your stats and appearnace armor which is what people see. This is a great addition that allows much more creative looks. WoW could really use this feature. SOE is also reworking the charater models which will allow them the ability to make more armor and weapon designs easier. The player's characters have never looked better and more individual in EQ2 then they do now and it will even be better in the future.

You just don't get it. You are wearing the same armor model designs that have not changed since launch. I could give s flying turd about the appearance slots which is just a band aid approach to this issue.

Armor model design has stagnated in this game since launch. Sure now you can wear the same robe over and over again with a new texture model if you like because of the appearance tabs but the armor models themselves have stayed the same. This is a well known issue with EQ2 that has not changed at all.

As for SOE reworking the skeletal system to allow for now armor designs well they've been saying that for the last 2-3+ years already. The only real by-product of this labor has been class hats which took over a year to complete.

The fact that that they have to rework a core fundamental graphic design system (in regards to the skeletal system) with this engine just further illustrates how ass backwards the engine was designed so as to hinder any future progress when it comes to varying the look of armor/clothing in the game besides slapping on a new texture here and there or using band aid approaches like appearance slots.

Games I've played:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, LoTRO, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars, Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H.

If you don't like it so much Misfit, then go elsewhere. If all you're going to do is complain about an old game with a much more realistic style than most games, we'd rather not hear it.

I agree Moirae but I do not mind hearing it.

M1sf1t, Yes I do get it that is why I play the game. The difference is you did not enjoy it and I do. Unlike you I believe SOE will fix the models this year.

I was a SWG vet if anyone has a reason to hate SOE I do. Master Creature Handler, Master Bio-engineer, Master Jedi.  Need I say more. I will never go back to SWG but I have seen SOE handle EQ2 well and improve it. The last patch really fixed a lot of performance issue. I also have been very happy with the expansions and adventure packs. So I believe and have faith in SOE's handling of EQ2. You do not. The fact I have a different opinion of EQ2 then you do, does not mean I do not get it. I am also in EQ2 for the long haul so I am patient. As long as SOE keeps going in the right direction I will be playing EQ2 even while I play newer games.

What I do not get is, if someone hates a game so much why read that games forums? Why waste time? I put this post here and not general chat for that reason. I have witnessed a general dislike of EQ2 graphics by a lot of mmo players. I did not want to waste their time by posting in general I wanted people who where players or really interested in EQ2 to comment. This is public forum so anyone can post but again I wonder? If you hate a game so much why the interest  in reading its forums or even wasting time posting comments there. I hate Dark and Light and when I stopped playing the game I never read another post about it, as far as I was concerned it was a dead game. However I realize people still play it and as much as I hated it who am I to try to enlighten them to why they are wasting their time and money. If they like it good for them. After 10 years of serious mmo experience, a love of this form of entertainment, and following the industry, I do get it.

''Hey now!'' - the immortal, cheesy catch-phrase of Hank Kingsly from The Larry Sanders Show.

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  When I first got EQ2 Deserts of Flame, my machine could not even run specs at full quality, but even so, in my opinion, it was a glorious game to behold.  WoW was a lot less demanding, and whilst still stunning in its own way (way back then), I felt that EQ2's realistic graphics were amazing.

Basically I would equate them on max settings to being about equal to Oblivion.

I do not know what they look like now, as I have been away for well over a year.

But for me, EQ2 was the eye-candy of MMO's.  Obviously, this will soon be smashed by certain up and coming games.

I always wondered what Vanguard's graphics were like, seeing as it takes up more than 12 gig space!

I agree with Majestico. I thought the graphics were pretty cool. And I'm one of those loons that thinks graphics makes or breaks a game...the style not the crispness/realness.

I agree we are in a time with games now that the graphics have to be good. Game play has to be good but I think the days of good games with bad graphic, being a hit, are fading off into the sunset.

I'd agree with you,i too am of the gameplay comes first school but now understand that MMOs have to walk the walk graphics wise as well.

For me at this moment in time EQ2 looks wise is the best on the market, but while it aint my cup of tea AoC will blow it out of its top spot when it goes live (and i'm only talking graphics here),so with that in mind for a game thats what nearly 4 years old isnt bad,it'll age gently like a fine wine now if the devs can come up with something better than  ROK for the next expansion i'll be a happy bunny.

You make way to many assumptions. I don't hate EQ2's game play. As a whole I think EQ2 has a lot to offer and more so then WoW game play wise but I do hate how they reuse the same old armor/cloth models over and over again. I also dislike how SOE has ignored and left old zones looking bland and lifeless.

I hate how long it has taken SOE to fix the graphical performance and the time it took for them to say that their art direction sucks, let alone how long the skeletal revamp is taking. Artistically and even graphically EQ2 has been left behind by current games and eventually upcoming titles. Game play wise EQ2 is good but the art direction and horrible performance, and horrendous non-modular design of the graphic engine (which was originally designed for a Intel single core CPU which never was ) sucks.

Sorry if am not a hardcore fanboi of EQ2. I just know what bothered me about this game to the point where I just could not take it anymore.

I could care less what you don't or do want to hear. I'll post my opinion anywhere I like. If you are having trouble with it then tough luck son. This is after all a forum and a post where the discussion is about the state of EQ2's graphics.

I am sorry but Oblivion blows any MMO out right now out of the water. EQ2 is nowhere near Oblivion style graphics which includes all the graphic mod enhancements or the default game. As far as realism goes the plastic skin tones and textures of humanoid races in EQ2 is not that great IMH
