Soul of the Ultimate Nation News - Interview with In-Kyun Hong

Posted by Dana Massey on Jun 29, 2005  | 9 comments in our forums

In-Kyun Hong, the Producer of SUN from Webzen Inc., and Richard Duffek had a chat about the upcoming action packed MMORPG. Here is a snippet:

MMORPG.com: Can you give us a little more details on how “SUN is the first title to incorporate console-style game mechanics into a classic MMORPG”?

In-Kyun Hong: SUN puts the style of a 3D action/adventure game into an MMORPG. In battle, we are working on move attacks, range attacks and unique skills that let players fight with multiple monsters at one time. Also, missions are not just given as quests. Instead, players will have to pay close attention to the environment where suspicious marks or switches may lead to the next mission. For example, touch a switch and a wall may break down or a trap might be activated. These are the types of things we’re putting into SUN to give it faster and more thrilling gameplay.

Nice interview , this game is looking great. The graphics are so amazing and cool looking and I love that its going to be twitch based and not boring auto-attack. Looks like its shapeing up nicely , cant wait for more info.

It looks nice, but doesn't sound much like an MMORPG, though. More like a Diablo 2 type game. I mean, it sounds like the characters aren't even customisable. They each seem to be a specific character with a preset class and everything (ala Diablo 2).

Boring PVP, restricted job class, the inevitable opening of new worlds creating a migration of players from existing worlds causing disruption in guilds

Hurray

PvP should be Asheron's Call style, kill any player character anytime anywhere.  THAT life style gets exciting (maybe annoying at first but it helps you build your MMORPG survival skills and becomes a lot more fun)

"Oh man, these graphics are really sweet!"

That took me about 6 seconds to say, and will keep my attention for about 20 more.  Graphics can't carry the team.

And music?  Every real gamer lowers the music volume to 0 so they can hear SFX volume well.  I really couldn't care less if you had Carrot Top directing your solumn tone.

I have seen a gameplay video. The characters look like something between korean and european. Maybe they want to please both areas without making anyone happy. The combat looks like martial and melee, not much spell or range. The enemy flashes up in white every time they are hit by sword or what ever. That is strange and the effects seems just too much. Maybe that appeal more to koreans.

OMG SUN is looking so amazing; and so is the entire line-up from Webzen.  It's just amazing, nothing what I would expect from the people who made MU Online.

I guess this goes to show why Webzen is among the most popular developers in Asia, along with Gravity.  Realistically end of 2006 will be a cat fight between these 2 companies with an amazing game line up.  Gravity with Reqium in Q4 2005 and Ragnarok Online 2.  And Webzen with SUN and Parfait Station.

These are the real Heavy hitters from Korea and we are about to see why.

Maybe gameplay would be a lot better if half of the Korea's wasn't determined to build nukes and would spend time figuring out content

.... you don't really know much about the countries i'm guessing? North Korea doesn't make games so it doesn't really matter
