The Chronicle was an in-development fantasy MMORPG. Set to feature an ambitious nine races and 27 sub-races, the game touted the unique combinations in character look, wanting to give players the opportunity to be identified by look and not merely a tag over their heads. There was a skill-based leveling system, where players could shape their characters as they wanted, free from rigid classes.
The game's story involved the near extermination of the population through the spell of a great, greedy wizard that decimated the land. Each race's struggle to recover, gain strength, and retake their land was the premise. PvP content was to be available in some form at each level, and the game did have planned permadeath. The way this was handled was via a "Death Realm", an instanced location where a player could fight through this purgatory type location alone to save his or her soul and thus life. But die in this realm and your character dies too.
The Chronicle was one of several games under development by Rapid Reality at the time, and as the company went under in late 2006, so did their projects.
